Posted December 21, 201014 yr Or is it? Anyone seen this yet? AFKe75Q6eVw Personally I'm not convinced EVERYTHING in there was filmed as it happened, and the whole thing may be fake as some claim but either it's a very well made piece of work and deserves to be seen. It's also best to know as little as possible before you start watching. This is one for those who like a thought provoking film. Without giving anything away I think the real Catfish in this film are the film-makers themselves.
December 21, 201014 yr i'm trying to ignore everything about it as that's the advice given, i saw them talking about it on Film 2010, i'm intrigued and will watch at some point.
December 23, 201014 yr I haven't seen it, but just from the trailer it's blatantly fake. And the directors / producers / guys who are in it are such obnoxious d-bags that I couldn't possibly bare to sit through it (I've seen an interview or two and that's enough). I'm sorry, but there's no way some effing hip New York photographer could be blatantly fooled by some mentally ill woman posing as someone else on the internet (I was spoiled about the end, but I knew exactly what was going on as soon as I got halfway through the trailer). The fact that they harp on about it being real is so ridiculous. And I also don't think it's okay that they're using some woman's depression/mental illness as the source of hype for a movie. Really sad, all around.
December 23, 201014 yr Author Regardless of whether it's fake or not (and some parts clearly are) it's still exceptionally well made and highlights something we all know about the internet

December 24, 201014 yr I think that it goes the right way for a horror movie... meh, I don't know if it's worth watching or not>
December 26, 201014 yr and highlights something we all know about the internet So why bother? At least, why tackle it in this SHOCK/HORROR way? These filmmakers seriously bother me.
December 28, 201014 yr Author So why bother? At least, why tackle it in this SHOCK/HORROR way? These filmmakers seriously bother me. If you think it's done in a shock/horror way you clearly haven't seen the film or are very easily shocked. The trailer IS very misleading but then we all know that different people are brought in to make trailers. A friend of mine did it for years despite being a film director himself and he's also never made a trailer of one of his own films
December 29, 201014 yr I meant shock/horror as in "wow! people on the internet lie! I had no idea this woman might actually be someone very sad/unfortunate". I, of course, haven't seen the film, so maybe I should so I can speak more intelligently on the matter, but there is something about all of this that makes me feel very uncomfortable, specifically that someone's illness is being used to make for an interesting ploy for a movie rather than the issue being tackled earnestly.
December 29, 201014 yr Author Fair point. Personally I never felt whilst watching the film that the lady at the end was regarded as being mentally ill. She came across to me more as being very melancholy and regretful that the choices she'd made in her life hadn't allowed her to do all the things she'd dreamed of doing. So she started using the internet to live out some of those lost dreams but it all snowballed and the last thing she expected was to meet the guy. She is consistently treated respectfully in the film, they do become friends and it does all end on a positive note for everyone. I think the films biggest flaw has been it's marketing campaign being very misleading. Thankfully I heard about it through a friend rather than the media so missed all the trailers until I'd seen it.
December 29, 201014 yr Is the twist that she is mentally ill? cos then like, you guys have ruined it for me.
December 29, 201014 yr Is the twist that she is mentally ill? cos then like, you guys have ruined it for me. Haha. Pretty much.
December 29, 201014 yr Author Is the twist that she is mentally ill? cos then like, you guys have ruined it for me. I'd strongly argue that's not the case but you are right we shouldn't have discussed it openly. Sorry if I've spolit it for you but I would say that isn't the ending or 'the twist' as the film doesn't have one and you should still see it.
December 29, 201014 yr I might still download it, but there's that whole 'dont let people tell you what it's about' $h!t, and on Film 2010 they were saying that, so i'm guessing theres meant to be a bit that you don't see coming, which i'm guessing is that she is mentally ill? which tbh would be a $h!t twist. I'll reserve judgement until i've actually seen it.
January 1, 201114 yr Just watched it. Not sure whether I thought it was good or not, or if i believe it or not. I sort of want to believe it but very coincidental that a film they started making thats unlikely to be very interesting would turn into that. I can sort of understand why Angela did what she did as well, she obviously deals with a lot in her life, and we all need some escapism in our lives. The fact is that it is very plausible. The fact that i've met people I know from this website as well, one of which I speak to on an almost daily basis on msn, and have on facebook, etc, it would be possible that he could have faked who he was, but then again it's not like Nev was in danger when he met her, just that he had been lied to for 9 months. Still interesting.
January 26, 201114 yr Its a story about a guy meeting a girl on facebook. Its supposedly real (& by the acting i would say a large element is?) ... & basicly... BIG TWIST ♥ I recommend
