I have never taken nor will take take Class a or b drugs, but do you think they should remain banned substances or is it time they should be legalised. A lot of crime today is drug related, if drugs were available say on prescription would this cut drug related crime or make no difference.

If an addict wants a fix and he has no money, chances are he's going to steal to feed that habit. But if he just had to nip round to his local surgery/hospital etc and get it free would this help solve a serious problem for society. Would it cut out the suppliers if Governments bought it legitimally.

We have tried to solve the drug problem for decades with little success, is this the way or will it just make things even worse?

What do you think?

Legalise or criminalise?

a question that can never be answered tbh... after all, i take mushrooms (hence my username) which are free and can be harvested every autumn for nothing!... no crime there!

where drugs are concerned, i think we should realy consider the possitive impact that the use has had on our (and other) cultures.

its not all bad!

we know of the crime, prostitution etc, but lets not forget the impact drugs has had on our culture. not only pop/rock music, whos impact was most noticable in the creative 60's/70's... but in literature, art, poetry, and especially classical music!

a tough one.

The most destructive, addictive and damaging drug is alcohol - yet we're allowed to buy this quite freely, and the Government are more than happy to reap the benefits of our mass consumption. Same, to a lesser degree, with tobacco.

It's laughable - the degrading, then regrading, of cannabis. If only more of these wayward kids had a spliff rather than a six-pack of cheap lager every weekend, I reckon there'd be a sharp downturn in anti-social behaviour for one thing. Give me a room full of stoneheads over a room full of p*ssheads anyday.....

Class A's.... I've done my fair share and enjoyed every minute of them.... but like anything, moderation is the key.

I disagree that we've tried for years to get the drug laws right.... until the 90s, drug use was simply swept under the carpet, the great unmentionable. The Tories, especially, were happy to pretend people weren't really off their boxes every weekend.... and of course they themselves were known to have a penchant for the old white stuff....

Holland have drug testing areas in clubs - they know people in the clubs take E, and they make it as safe as possible - so they chip a bit off the pill handed in, do a test on it, have almost immediate results, and they can pinpoint any bad stuff that may have made it into the tablet. Sensible, really.

Heroin is a different ballgame altogether, though. Smack is a vile drug, and it infects everywhere, everything and everyone it comes into contact with like a nasty disease. I don't know the answer to this one.
