January 11, 201114 yr Author I'll believe it when I see it. That French release schedule makes depressing reading. Same.
January 11, 201114 yr A chart has to be a reliable reflection of a countries music perception. That means sales, downloads and airplay. Airplay illustrates the collective music experience I guess. With current techniques can be screened hundreds of stations simultaneously. That gives a good collective picture. These data must be used for compiling a modern chart.
January 11, 201114 yr The problem I have with radio airplay is does it really reflect what the general public want to listen to (in the case of Radio 1, when the DJ actually plays a song without talking over it!!!). In this case, we have a radio station "executive" or "controller" who is basically dictating what music 11-16 years should be listening to. I think UK iTunes has proved that the UK public will buy a song upon hearing it - regardless of what style/genre the song is.
January 11, 201114 yr You have a point there, but as I said the current technical possibilities for sound scans overcome this problem is largely. For the EURO 200 the airplay from over 1500 radiostations has been used to compile the chart together with sales. The influence of an individual music manager is therefore negligible. In the Netherlands, for instance, there are many studies done on the musical tastes of the listeners. The radio stations are adjusted accordingly. Furthermore it is the quality of the music managers to distinguish themselves with music or musical styles. I'm one of those musimanagers you see.
January 11, 201114 yr There's a French chart which contains downloads and airplay. It gives a good picture of the French music experience I think. France may be the only country in whole Europe where your beloved chart is indeed more accurate for people's taste than the official chart.
January 11, 201114 yr Give me your answer to my question Ash? (about the two records; one of them sold 40.000 copies in 2 weeks and the other one 40.000 copies in 30 weeks, my question was: Which one is the most popular song you think?)  B) Edited January 11, 201114 yr by Chartboost
January 11, 201114 yr Give me your answer to my question Ash? (about the two records; one of them sold 40.000 copies in 2 weeks and the other one 40.000 copies in 30 weeks, my question was: Which one is the most popular song you think?)  B) That's a different thing. I just saw the APC Euro year end chart of 2010. Unheilig at #2 is so ridiculous! Nobody in the non-German-speaking countries knows that song. And Eminem and Yolanda Be Cool aren't even in the Top 15. They need a better point system for the year end chart. Apparently it's a linear system where a weekly #1 gets 200 points and a #200 gets 1 point. But that means that a song that spends 2 weeks at #100 has more points (202) than a song that has only one week at #1 (200). The system only rewards longevity, high positions are completely irrelevant. This year end chart has nothing to do with what was popular in the whole of Europe.
January 12, 201114 yr As I thought you don't look any further Ash. There is another year-end-chart based on the weekly score cumulated over 52 weeks. This chart gives a another view, you can choose if you like. I remember a comment of you about DJ Ötzi with Ein Stern... from 2007. You think that track is not popular in the rest of Europe  I guess you don't like André Rieu, but he plays that song with DJ Ötzi at his performances all over Europe................you might be surprised, but it's a big succes.............all over Europe. For the musicconsumers and radio stations the APC-stats charts give more clarity than a chart only based on sales like the French chart or many other European charts. The Billboard chart onces started with the ranking of tracks played in jukeboxes.............. :  I guess your German. Do you know that the German-speaking population in Europe is about 100 million people. That's about 20% of the European Union. Such a large number of people does have some influence on the whole picture I think. -_- By the way your answer was very brief I guess  Edited January 12, 201114 yr by Chartboost
January 12, 201114 yr Of course 'Ein Stern' was not popular in the rest of Europe, but I wanted to say that overall a track which scored in an area with 100 million people could be the most popular overal in Europe. The real discussion was totally different I guess. I say, as a radio music manager, that charts compiled out of 4 major elements are more reliable and interesting than charts only compiled out of 1 or 2. The elements are: physical sales, download sales, album sales and airplay. I can understand that an avarage music consumer only wants to see which record sold the most copies or was most downloaded in a period, however there are also music consumers who wants to know what's the popularity of a record. Some tracks are simply more dated than others. That's a fact which is important for a music manager for example. ^_^ Edited January 12, 201114 yr by Chartboost

Oh, you're right, I didn't see the other chart beneath. This one of course is better and reflects better what the big hits of the year have been. But for the rest, this leads to nothing... January 18, 201114 yr  Can't wait for the downloads to start applying in February, it will probably be only a slightly bigger shakeup than songs being released as they go to radio in the UK... When it happens. They said this would happen last Spring and 10 months on, France still have the same boring chart. Out of interest, what is the Inna track that's entered the French download chart?
January 18, 201114 yr meanwhile Britney and Inna enter the digital chart at #3 and #4. Would you be able to post the France download chart in this thread? At least while they still insist on publishing these mind numbingly dull charts each week? Or are they posted in another thread?
January 18, 201114 yr Author Well the digital top50 is posted in the chartsinfrance.net, however not this weeks chart (yet). The Inna song that charted is Sun Is Up. Should be her 5th top10 hit in France
January 18, 201114 yr Interesting. I guess that's the first Western country to release the single? I wonder if they will bother with the album/a fourth single here, since Deja Vu NEARLY made top 40 here.
