I guess MTV has to change it's policy and must start a voting chart. Viewers who like this can vote for their favorite tracks. Maybe this chart could be as you like it.

I don´t think there is a better way of compiling an inaccurate European chart than compiling one based on votes by viewers. The whole ET20 concept would be ruined and the flow of the chart would be incredibly messy.

I have to admit, I find the idea #1 battles where two songs swop places over several weeks looks really messy.

I agree, two artists battling for the number one is interesting but only to a certain degree and only for a considerably shorter period of time. However, if it happens for much longer it does become very annoying.

HITSTASTIC EUROPEAN NUMBER ONES - 2010

Is this Hitstastic European Top 30 a chart you´ve compiled personally with the pointing system you´ve described?

Without putting it into direct words, the rest of the comments seem to suggest a desire for a countdown designed in a way that resembles the compilation method that once existed for the "original" Euroepan Top 20 (1991-2009).

Perhaps the idea of making the MTV European Top 20 a voting chart is to generate revenue for MTV. The downside to this is that it won't reflect the biggest hits in Europe, but most likely the most popular artist. So expect to see Justin Bieber no. 1 for twelves weeks with his new single.

It is James. :D I got the idea of the Hitstastic European Top 30 when MTV used to publish the top 10 singles charts from across Europe on their teletext pages. I compiled a chart using the #1 = 10 points, #2 = 9 points, etc... and see what the order of the chart would be. That became the Hitstastic European Top 30. The chart was then published on www.chartclarity.com from Dec 2003 right up until December 2009 when the website came to an abrupt end. I've since continued posting the chart here on Buzzjack.

On a seperate note, back in 2008 I discovered the art of video editing and even started posting the HET30 each week on YouTube using clips of music videos (before record companies started clamping down on this). See below an old top 10 from 2008:

Hah I remember the European charts on MTV's teletext page, I used to check it too back in 2001.

Anyway, MTV's Euro Top20 for me is special because it was completely made up, for better and for worse, therefore unpredictable. Doesn't mean I've always liked their way of compiling, for example in 2007-8 the chart was full of indie-rock when none of it was popular in Europe, and back in the early 00s they started to dismiss dance music and big euro hits when they were so popular in the continent. But that's what makes it special.

Oh dear... I watched the Top 10 of the latest edition of European Top 20 on MTV Europe... I won't reveal anything until they put the whole Top 20 on their site... I'll just say I don't think I've ever laughed so much while watching this chart!
What happened?

They´ve put the chart on MTV´s website....it´s a disaster...really embarrassing

Someone was complaining that they stole the previous Top 20 from Euro200, and now they've taken the last existing Top 20 from Billboard's European Hot 100, issue date Dec. 11, 2010. Even the Billboard's mixup of "Your Song" (Elton instead of Ellie Golding) is there.

I have emailed the management of the Euro 200 chart the MTV-chart from last week.

I think they took action  :cheer: :yahoo:

MTV: a bunch of amateurs!!!

Come on, is it that difficult for MTV Europe to create their own methodology of making this chart? I have said it before and I'll say it again: if they can't be bothered themselves, there are enough enthusiasts like us who'd happily do that for them!
It's all about continuity. People who make a chart for fun aren't reliable enough I guess. I would say there's a challenge here for them...............

Another MTV Euro Top 20 chart on this web site?????:

Euphorique, I see you have reacted on MTV Europe's site and they have replied to you that they have a new music programmer for the chart... Whatever that means. Well, we'll see what happens! At least it's positive that they are replying to viewers! Now maybe someone should ask them at least to correct the number 11 in this week's joke of a chart - it's obviously supposed to be Ellie Goulding, not Elton John and Alessandro Safina... and especially not a 2010 version of their duet! Really, that MUST be corrected!

I hope it means its back to normal next week, and that this week since they had no programmer, they used to the last edition of Billboard to make the chart - which was last December.

Well, judging by this week's Top 10, what MTV Europe said about the chart taking "a bit of a different perspective from the old" seems to be true... At least it doesn't look like it resembles other "pan-European" charts... When they broadcast the number 2 today, I was absolutely sure what the number 1 would be... Let's say I was shocked! I'm looking forward to seeing the whole Top 20 on the MTV Europe website!
