Not to mention that such things have also happened during the "good old times" - the example I thought of immediately was the chart run of "Got The Feelin'" by 5ive:

8-17-7-7

As a matter of fact, European Top 20 was quite peculiar during the whole 1998 in general! But that was the great thing about it and I'm sad that I wasn't watching the chart yet at the time...

That was indeed a strange chart run, I had almost forgot about that one...

ET20 back in the day had some great stuff, outdoor hosting in different European places of interest, interviews and of course some great chart action

Here is another couple of remarkable chart runs from 1998:

Ricky Martin - The Cup Of Life

17-7-3-4

Jamiroquai - Deeper Underground

6-8

In my previous post I forgot to mention another thing about the "flow" of the chart. I'll once again give 2003 as the example for the "perfect flow" - songs climbed until they reached their peak position and then started falling... However, that was incredibly boring! There were only 4 or 5 occasions during the whole year when a song reclimbed - and each of those times I almost jumped for joy since it seemed like a miracle! As I have stated before, the chart is most interesting when you never know whether a song will go up or down next week...

Let me also say something about the latest edition of European Top 20! Once again there is a surprising return to the top... and, as a bonus, there are 5 new entries... I really, really like the chart this year!

There seems to be a change in the schedule of MTV Europe - instead of on Tuesdays at 20:00 CET they are going to broadcast European Top 20 on Tuesdays at 23:00 CET. In the meantime, I'll make a prediction that I have thought about for a long time - "California King Bed" by Rihanna will re-enter the chart at some point in the future!

Well I seem to be the only person who complained about that on MTV Europe's website, so I guess no one cares that they're ruining the charts and the channel in general.

They've either got the song titles incorrect or the artists incorrect.

And a record is broken this week! The 13-place climb of "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO is the biggest climb to number 2 ever! The previous record-holder was "Earth Song" by Michael Jackson, which went 14-2 at the end of 1995...

Also, "Mr. Saxobeat" by Alexandra Stan re-enters the chart for the third time, i.e., this is its fourth separate run in European Top 20. It's the third song ever to do this... and, can you imagine, the previous two also did it this year - "Who's That Chick?" by David Guetta and Rihanna and "Price Tag" by Jessie J!

Off topic, but does anyone know when MTV Europe started and stopped using this logo?:

Both these songs were out in 2002, so obv around that year, but anyone know the months they started and stopped using it? I think they changed to a purple bubble soon after.

Well they had the white name labels with the coloured tops which indicated what show or chart was being shown up until September 2001. Then this logo replaced them and was used up until the beginning of 2003 where they then changed to the purple bubble.

I remember Party Zone; a really good show to catch all the rare dance tracks MTV wouldn´t otherwise play during the day.

Yeah Partyzone and DFC were amazing back then. MTV during the daytime was starting to get really boring though with their lack of dance and european hits, especially in 2001 and 2002 when the genre was so big in European charts.

It seems like I'm saying this every week nowadays but "Sweat" by Snoop Dogg and David Guetta re-enters European Top 20 for the third time, making this its fourth separate run in the chart... And it's the fourth song to achieve this - after "Who's That Chick?", "Price Tag" and "Mr. Saxobeat". I wouldn't be surprised if Alexandra Stan's single becomes the first to re-enter the chart for the fourth time next week!...

I'm not surprised that "The Edge Of Glory" by Lady GaGa has reached number 1 - I thought it might do it when it climbed to number 2 two weeks ago... As a matter of fact, this edition of European Top 20 looks like a direct continuation not of last week's edition but of the one from two weeks ago!

It proves just how inconsistant the MTV European Top 20 has become which is a shame. Here's how this weeks top 20 would look if it used the LW positions of the chart from a fortnight ago:

1. (2) Lady GaGa - The Edge Of Glory

2. (5) Britney Spears - I Wanna Go

3. (*) Rihanna - Man Down

4. (10) Nicky Minaj - Super Bass

5. (16) Shakira Feat. Pitbull - Rabiosa

7. (7) Katy Perry - Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)

18. (14) Inna - Sun Is Up

19. (18) Adele - Rolling In The Deep

20. (13) Jessie J Feat. B.o.B - Price Tag

This still doesn't really represent the biggest hits in Europe at the moment. Will Don Omar & Lucenzo 'Danza Kuduro' and Sak Noel 'Loca People' be entering this chart anytime soon? Also interesting to see 'Man Down' as high as #3 when it's only charting high in France. The vast majority of other countries have 'California King Bed' in their top 10 yet doesn't appear at all this week.

Quite simply

Oh, I'll be really happy if "Danza Kuduro" enters the chart! But even if it doesn't, for me European Top 20 now is at its best since I started watching it in April 2000 (maybe it shares this honour with the wonderful year 2007)!

Just look at the chart run of "Party Rock Anthem" during the last 6 weeks:

2-13-15-2-15-2

Any predictions at which position it's going to land next week?

I predict it will leave the top 20 next week from as high as #2 only to re-enter at #2 in a fortnights time!!!

This further proves the MTV European Top 20 is just an embarrassment now. How tragic. :( Oh well, there's always the Hitstastic International Top 30 for an alternative unbiased chart (although it's more of a world chart rather than European but it's still mostly similar). :D
