I don't remember this at all from last Spring. Either I overlooked it completely or I gave it one listen without really paying much attention and thought it was below average. Then again, 'Stop And Stare' reminds me so much of Romanian dance act Morandi (their styles are similar) so I'm sure I just overlooked it. I did chart their singles 'Lies' and that stuck around considering it only peaked at #19 in my chart. Unknown Pleasures is great. Strange Talk have benefitted the most this week.

This is pure class and a track I still consider a modern day classic. One of those tracks that I expect to see on VH-1 Classic in 2015. :lol: However, my interest in this song has now tailed off as I'm listening to 'Grenade' a lot more now.

To be honest, it was inevitable. It was a slow burner that slowly grew on me to the point it made #18 - hardly listened to the song last week hence it's dropped down. I did see the video a couple of times during the week on MTV2 but overall, not really enough to warrant a place in my chart. I still think 'To Lose My Life' is their best single and they have a long way to bettering that track in terms of chart success here (#3 in January 2009).

Fair enough, not everybody will like the same songs to the same extent. I do think Bruno Mars is an excellent singer/songwriter and it's great to see this being recognised in the UK. For me, Bruno definitely deserves to win Best International Breakthrough on this years Brit Awards (no doubt they'll either award Justin Bieber of Glee Cast!!! :rofl: ). There is more depth, light and shade to Bruno's hits. 'Just The Way You Are' was excellent in a light sugary doughnut kinda way - the perfect love song. 'Grenage' on the other hand has a darker feel to the song whilst still managing to be radio friendly - the perfect balance to another solid pop song.

Bruno Mars getting to #1 in my chart was inevitable - there really no comptition imo. If anything, Nero's competition was with Martin Solveig for the #2 spot which he managed to win this week. :lol:

Well I refused to chart 'Blah Blah Blah' because I thought it was an abysmal song following the brilliance that was 'TiK ToK' - another case where the record company follow up an excellent track with some excuse of a track that should've been left as an album track (reject). So 'Your Love Is My Drug' was actually Ke$ha's second hit for me peaking at #5. Then there was 'Take It Off' which peaked at no. 14 for me (why everyone said it was her best song EVA!!! I will never understand. It's good, but not that good. Stop looning!!! :lol: ). Which brings us to 'We R Who We R' and you're quite right, they all have a similar sound.

I'm surprised you didn't comment on these unknown new entries in my chart like Strange Talk, Grouplove, etc...unless you've heard these already and didn't like them. :o Anika Moa was entered into Unknown Pleasures 4 by Ghosty (iirc) and the track was 4th in my votes giving 'Standing In This Place' 10 points. I'd never heard the song before and so to me this is a brand new track that I discovered via the UP contest. My entry, Aeroplane feat. Sky Ferriera, enters at #15.

01 (--) Bruno Mars - Grenade (01) [1 wk] Hmm...I don't like to call songs overrated when music taste is obviously subjective (esp when it's sold 150k to get to #1) but I can't get into this as much as Just The Way You Are at all. I think it's decent, and he's a promising artist, but I'd struggle to rate it above 8/10. Isn't this his 4th #1 in a row in your chart :o

 

Fair enough, not everybody will like the same songs to the same extent. I do think Bruno Mars is an excellent singer/songwriter and it's great to see this being recognised in the UK. For me, Bruno definitely deserves to win Best International Breakthrough on this years Brit Awards (no doubt they'll either award Justin Bieber of Glee Cast!!! :rofl: ). There is more depth, light and shade to Bruno's hits. 'Just The Way You Are' was excellent in a light sugary doughnut kinda way - the perfect love song. 'Grenage' on the other hand has a darker feel to the song whilst still managing to be radio friendly - the perfect balance to another solid pop song.

 

02 (02) Nero - Me & You (02-02) [2 wks] Brilliant to see it stay at #2, wish it could have moved up a place!

 

Bruno Mars getting to #1 in my chart was inevitable - there really no comptition imo. If anything, Nero's competition was with Martin Solveig for the #2 spot which he managed to win this week. :lol:

Woeful. :( Just before Christmas, I listened to the preview clips of Olly Mur's album having liked his first two singles and overall I was surprised at the quality of his album - bar two dodgy sounding ballads. Then again, Take That's album sounded good, or at least interesting from the preview clips. I've still not bought either 'Progress' or Olly's debut album. :kink: Who knows, I may end up going a cd album buying spree in the next few weeks and buy several albums all at once. :D

I still get the impression with BJSC that you have up to 40 entries split into two groups of 20 each. Vote for your faves and then the best scoring 10 from each group go through to a final. What if your faves go out in the semi finals and the actual final consists of mostly songs you didn't like first time round - and will never like regardless of how many times you play them? :( UP is far more manageable/not so time consuming. That's why I only chart tracks from the Eurovision final, rather than including the semi finals too. I'd do exactly the same if I entered BJSC.

I quite often go back to look at old charts of mine from 2000 or whenever and see album tracks from Precious and Fragma in there :lol: Often, it will prompt me to go back and listen to them!

Agreed on both counts, surprised Loca's been such a hit across Europe but I guess they lap up any old Shakira song :lol: I wasn't keen on the She Wolf album as a whole to be honest, apart from the lead single and Men In This Town, which I don't understand why it was ignored as a single.

 

Maybe, although I've had far more impressive climbs than that - Saturdays went 15-1 recently with Higher and I think A1 went from 37-1 or something when my chart was a top 50 still last year :o

I'm really glad that 'Hello' managed to make the UK top 20. It should hopefully the video more of an airplay boost as the music channels tend to show the "Official UK Top 20" most evenings on one of the music channels.

I quite like 'Stop And Stare' as, like I posted elsewhere, it sounds like Morandi. Doesn't compare to Strange Talk though, that track got my 20 points and is better than 'Stop And Stare' imo.
