Yeahh Open Road is a very good song, it was Barlow's choice of second single apparently, but the label wanted Love Wont Wait but yeah i completely agree with you on Stronger, its a nice song but it was more of an album track or maybe a double A Side but not the lead single to take Barlow back to number 1 after over a year out of the spotlight

I honestly think there will be some form of solo material in the future from Barlow, i mean he has begun to test the water with the duet with Robbie and the GB40 concert so i think its perfectly plausible that something could come together eventually, perhaps sooner than we think now that the media have finally recognised his talents as a singer and songwriter.....maybe he might release a live cd with one of the songs he sung at GB40 as a single? like the one with Ellie Goulding? or perhaps something new altogether ...who knows but baring in mind he runs Future Records and Universal love him to bits there might be a way to find a contractual gap to make things happen

Same, it's really refreshing having this discussion with you as you said it appears we have very similar opinions :)

If you are still looking for the performances at GB40 here's some videos of him singing Wondering, a ballad Medley, and Like I Never Loved You At All feat Ellie Goulding

Thank you for that post, and in ways you have me thinking, i never really looked at shame been a sort of solo work and combine that with this concert there may be a tiny tiny bit of hope he would do more solo stuff in the future. On saying that im in 2 minds about, personaly i would love another gary solo album should take that split, on the flip side i would be nervous for him as it went so wrong the last time, when he started his solo career the last time he like now was loved but that very quickly turned the opposite and it went belly up.

I dont know, maybe IF he tried 2nd time he will have learned from all his past mistakes and this time round robbie wont be slating him in the press (kathyp will  !!!!) again the big IF he did it he would reallly have to come up with some brilliant songs ( which he truly has the potential to do).

As it stands i dont think its an issue though as at the very least take that will do at least 1 more studio album and a greatest hits, i could be completly wrong in saying this though i cant see take that splitting for a long time yet, they initially signed a 3 album deal on their return and technically they have 4 done now including the live album, so they have signed a new deal along the way. As a band UK wise they can do no wrong and selling album and sell out doors like hot cakes so unless they decide to go on while on top form i can see them been a around for a few years yet.

Im so enjoying take that this time round, the music is my cup of tea, i truly am loving all their albums and i hope it continues for a long time yet, as i have always said once the muisc is good im happy to see them around as i dont giving a shiat about whatever else they as people say or do, if the quality of the last 3 albums continues ive alot of good music to get from these boys yet.

If Gary would be happy with one or two concerts per tour, maximum 3,000 people per show - then any solo attempt would be good for him and his fans - I think that arenas are out of the question though. I really do doubt he'd have any success chart-wise (maybe a top 30 hit - possibly 20). This isn't a downer - it is realism. When I listened to the concert the other night (and since) his solo stuff and some of the lesser known (for non-ardent, die-hard followers) early TT stuff really did sound very dated - even for its time. The stuff he's written recently for other artists (apart from Peter Kay) has really not been the success one had hoped for - from one of Britain's 'premier song-writers'.

I may be wrong - he may be holding back some bloody classics (like he probably held Patience back until the right time came along to use it) but unless he is - with some relevant, modern day songs (even ballads - as long as they are excellent) then he'll fail.

If he is a success - good for him - he'll have proven me wrong. If it is a bit of a damp squib - his fans won't be able to aportion blame to Robbie this time.

Kath

I do think though - that Gary should write more stuff with Robbie if Heart & I is a sample of what they can do together.

yeah i see what you're saying and i agree, the thing is i cant see Take That ever splitting up again now, i mean we know that Rob will still release a bit of solo stuff here and there and if Gary released something i dont think it would split the band up cos it would probably happen during the year they take off after a Take That album has been released...for example this could be the schedule for the guys:

2010/11 - Take That Progress and tour

2011/12 - Take That year off, Robbie solo album <<-----------------something like that perhaps? who knows?

2012/13 - Take That 7th studio album and tour

However i believe they will release a live album of the Progress tour as it will be the biggest they have ever done, perhaps as a 2 disc like The Greatest Day where one disc will be the live recording and the other disc will have the 5 or 6 songs that they are currently working on at the moment....food for thought

Very interestingly is a quote from Tinie Tempah and i quote "Gary told me he'd love to have been on my single 'Written In The Stars' so I asked him to be on the next album. He is up for it." http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/story...ke-that_1187181

maybe thats the way Gary will go in the future rather than just releasing songs by himself?

I see what you mean and again it may work, but id be shocked if gary goes down that road agaain. IF he did i think single wise he wouldnt do great but an album with the right material with the right release date could do well, for example a solo gary album would probably perform quite well for mothers day, or valentines, you know that style of market.

I think when gary writes songs for others its the songs he writes that he knows wouldnt suit himself or take that, alot of the artists gary writes for are artists that dont seem to do gugely well no matter what song they have, my fave gary song is his alesha dixon breathe slow song which i quite like although i will admit it isnt a masterpiece either.

Gary's song for Alesha was To Love Again wasn't it Pete?

yeahh he'd have to follow Ronan Keating example with Songs for my Mother which went number 1 for 2 weeks over the mothers day period, and ironically enough mothers day 2011 isnt too far away so watch this space :)

I wouldnt go down the cover version route that ronan did but i would follow the release dates, gary is far to talented to release just a quick rushed album of covers. Id be even happy with a live album release to be honest, i wouldnt care how it sold once i got my hands on a copy!

I love Wondering, along with Fast Car it's one of my favourites from the 12 Months album. I still need to get hold of his first album though.

You will get open raod fairly cheap on most places like play.com etc, if you liked the 2nd album you will like the first aswell, although as i have said before i believe the 2nd album is far stronger.
I've never understood why his flop second album is still in print yet his debut that reached no.1 and contains two no.1 singles is no longer being pressed? I downloaded all the singles from Open Road but I think I'll definitely invest in a copy of the full album.

Probabaly there were more copies of his 2nd album lyiing around as it didnt sell much, on syaing that does anyone know how much it has sold?
