1. Completely agree that it was a genius move from Calvin! I laughed when I heard that he'd lied about that :D Shame aside from I'm Not Alone and Flashback I found the rest of the album pretty underwhelming :(

10. I know :drama:

Shame the schoolgirls went slightly out of sync with each other about 10 seconds into the performance on the 'but they don't know' bit :( As for Daz, he just looked absolutely ridiculous looking back. Still LOVED the old-skool (literally :kink:) backdrop imagery with the protractors and rulers!

1. Well, I didn't actually buy 'Ready For The Weekend'. It was just the genius of thinking of a way of getting around hidious record company demands. No wonder British artists in general seem to struggle sustaining a career for more than 2 years.

2. Oh yes, and the most important piece of equipment used in the classroom - some DJ decks. It's weird to think this is 5 years ago. I thought 'Hard Rock Hallelujah' was a brilliant Eurovision winner. Far superior to those two "songs" that won the following two years.

1. You didn't miss much  But I agree with you about that.

2. Yes indeed! It seems like yesterday doesn't it :o 2007 and 2008's winners were so underwhelming I agree, thank goodness it's got back on track the last couple of years. In fact I'm currently watching Unser Star Fur Deutschland, Germany's selection process for Lena's entry this year. She's performed 6 this week and will do 6 next week, there aren't any ESC winners in this semi-final but I do like all of the songs to some extent. One song called Taken By A Stranger is pretty experimental and would make a very interesting host entry for Germany :o

Cheers MancunianGiraffe :D

So you're not a fan of The Vaccines then? I personally think 'The Roller' is the better song. I've thought 'Grenade' was a great track from the first time I heard it. I can see why it'd be a grower as it's not as instant a song as 'Just The Way You Are' was.

Still no love for Adele? :(

I don't mind "Rolling In The Deep", but if it hadn't been hyped up I'd probably like it more  being constantly bombarded with superlatives about it doesn't help :P

The Vaccines' track has grown on me a bit but it reminds me a little too much of why the genre declined in the first place :( the Wombats' track, by comparison, sounds fresh and fun :D

2. So Lena is going to represent Germany again in 2011? What would happen if Germany won the contest again this year? In previous years, the winner of Eurovision from the previous year gives the award to the winner. Does that mean Lena would present the award to herself.

Why not  I've already figured that she'll open the show by reprising her winning song from last year (as usually happens), so with her then performing her new entry and potentially again if she won, it could be a big Lena love in this year!

I think 'Rolling In The Deep' is excellent and I doubt I'll ever get bored of listening to the song. It's just fantastic imo in every way. Can't fault the song whatsoever.

The Vaccines single sounds like Editors around the time when they released 'Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors'. I actually liked that single by Editors but it was around the time when indie/rock music started to become less popular. I blame The Hoosiers and Scouting For Girls success in 2007 for giving rock music a bad reputation. The Wombats' track is good but I much prefer their last single 'Tokyo (Vampires And Wolves)' much more.

I remember reading something in the Eurovision forum about Lena. I just find it incredible typical that Hurts have tried twice to represent the UK and the BBC have rejected them. Clearly, the BBC aren't aiming for a 2011 win.

Tbh to me "Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors" sounded so much more, it may be a tad empty and it's not their best but it's an absolute stadium-filler of a song. I agree with you on the last bit though, I think it's a real shame that when both those bands came back, it was SFG's single that did better. It's a decent enough pop song but The Hoosiers' "Choices" deserved SO much more. Great song.

'Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors' was quite anthemic imo. The track got to no. 5 in my chart at the time. In fact, Editors have had a string of top 20 hits in my chart (yes, I'm aware I'm going way off topic  ).

Editors 'Papillon' #3

Editors 'Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors' #5

Editors 'An End Has A Start' #9

Editors 'Munich' #10

Editors 'You Don't Know Love' #11

Editors 'The Racing Rats' #12

Editors 'Push Your Head Towards The Air' #16

'This Ain't A Love Song' was ok but I was gobsmacked when it went to no. 1 and outsold Plan B 'She Said' which I honestly thought was gonna be a massive UK #1 hit. It eventually outsold SFG and remains the far superior song. 'Choices' was brilliant, have to admit I wasn't keen on The Hoosiers at all back in 2007. I just about liked 'Goodbye Mr A' (got to #6 in my chart) but everything else was crap. 'Choices' got to #5 in my chart.

I agree, Melanie Fiona really does make this song with her fine vocals and the really catchy chorus to boot. It's become Tinchy Stryder's highest charting single in my chart.

As for Britney, I believe her music video is due to premier on 6th February during the Superbowl (most watched TV event in America) so I reckon 'Hold It Against Me' will get a sales boost once the video goes into heavy rotation - especially if it's as striking visually like 'Toxic' was.
