Posted July 24, 200619 yr Madonna's "Like a Prayer" was voted the most groundbreaking video of all time in a survey by 24-hour music channel MTV, beating Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" and Michael Jackson's "Thriller". The top 10 "videos that broke the rules" was released on Monday ahead of an MTV broadcast of the top 100 videos on August 1 to mark the channel's 25th anniversary. Three Madonna tracks appear in the top 10, with "Ray of Light" and "Vogue" in fourth and fifth positions respectively... but no Bedtime Stories????? "Featuring burning crosses, statues crying blood and Madonna seducing a black Jesus, (Like a Prayer) even brought condemnation from the Vatican for its use of religious imagery," MTV said. In sixth position were Michael and Janet Jackson with "Scream", followed by Robbie Williams and "Rock DJ" in which the singer appears to be peeling off his own skin. More than 10,000 MTV viewers voted in the poll..... how ridiculous that tit-fest Eric Prydz is in there - yet not a single video by Chris Cunningham (Bjork, Aphex Twin, Portishead) is in the list. Hadn't these people seen 'Windowlicker' or 'Come to Daddy' by Aphex Twin? 'Ashes to Ashes' by David Bowie? ANY Bjork video? And the Spice Girls video???? Why>? Are MTV viewers stupid? Seems so..... Top Ten Videos That Broke The Rules: 1. Madonna - Like A Prayer (1989) 2. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time (1999) 3. Michael Jackson - Thriller (1983) 4. Madonna - Ray of Light (1998) 5. Madonna - Vogue (1988) 6. Michael & Janet Jackson - Scream (1995) 7. Robbie Williams - Rock DJ (2000) 8. Eric Prydz - Call On Me (2004) 9. Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity (1997) 10. Spice Girls - Wannabe (1996) Edited July 24, 200619 yr by russt68
July 24, 200619 yr Are MTV viewers stupid? Seems so..... Top Ten Videos That Broke The Rules: 1. Madonna - Like A Prayer (1989) - Definitely deserves to be in The Top10 2. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time (1999) - For impact Yes. However, the same video director did (former teen-Queen) Debbie Gibson - Shock Your Mama (1992) which featured Debbie wearing a school uniform, but exposing her bellybutton, so the video concept was hardly original & for Britney to claim it was her own idea .... bah humbug. 3. Michael Jackson - Thriller (1983) Of course. 4. Madonna - Ray of Light (1998) It is good but Top10 - I don't think so. 5. Madonna - Vogue (1988) It is good but Top10 - I don't think so. 6. Michael & Janet Jackson - Scream (1995) Way too much money was spent on this video, so in the same way I resent Chelsea FC, it should not be here. 7. Robbie Williams - Rock DJ (2000) No, no, no, no - Replace with Prodigy - Smack My B**** Up instead 8. Eric Prydz - Call On Me (2004) - No way should this be anywhere near the Top50 let alone the Top100. I dread to think how high up the appalling 50Cent - P.I.M.P has finished. 9. Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity (1997) - Top20 but lucky to be in the Top10. 10. Spice Girls - Wannabe (1996) - Well it was a one take video which captured the essence of the Act, but wasn't the first one take video - Janet Jackson - When I Think Of You (1986)? My Top10 would have been: 01 Michael Jackson - Thriller 02 Madonna - Like A Prayer 03 Johnny Cash - Hurt 04 Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer 05 Bjork - All Is Full Of Love 06 Fatboy Slim - Weapon Of Choice 07 Beastie Boys - Sabotage 08 A-ha - Take On Me 09 Prodigy - Smack My B**** Up 10 Aphex Twin - Windowlicker I have excluded David Bowie's Ashes To Ashes as it was made in 1980 & year before MTV started, so I assume it would not qualify.
July 24, 200619 yr I love the Like A Prayer video, it's my favourite of all her videos. I love the burning crucifixs and the religious defiance :o
