Read this in the paper today, it seems a bit strange though. Kidz is released on the 28th which is too early for Comic Relief (and it doesn't exactly fit Red Nose Day does it?) yet surely they can't be releasing another single so soon after?

thats exactly what i was thinking, i find it interesting that Kidz wasnt mentioned at all just that they have been confirmed to be releasing the official single.

All going well it will be a brand new song and something else to look forward to unless they go with a double a side release, either way it should do well for them,
I doubt it'd happen but I'd love a double a-side. Nobody does them anymore. A track from the album (i.e. Kidz) and a brand new track would do wonders for sales for both the album and single and then they could release another new track when the tour starts followed by the special edition of the album.

It may not be a brand new song though. The source was this ( )

ONE DIRECTION have been rehearsing for The X Factor tour after flying back from LA. They were in the running to release the official Comic Relief single in March but the job went to TAKE THAT.

The charity's bosses were keen to release a familiar song to maximise profits and SIMON COWELL decided he didn't want the teens' first release to be a cover.

So it looks like Take That may be doing a cover for the CR song. If its CIBM - it'll be a cover of a cover. I think it may actually tie in with the David Walliams Comedy effort 'Fake That' - and we'll see ten guys singing the CR song.

Sounds horrible :puke2:

I'm sure Take That could write a brilliant new charity song for this year's Comic Relief. IMO no-one has yet beaten Spice Girls effort in '97.

It is possible that if it was understood that One Direction were to do the song - the organisers would rather have a cover (as them being a pretty unknown quantity) and that now that (if its true), an established band like Take That were doing it - an original song may be decided upon. They'd have to be pretty quick in getting one done of course. Unless they delayed the release date of Kidz - and made THAT the CR song.

Edit : and yes - I know anyone can edit Wiki - but it has been put up there that Kidz IS indeed the 2011 official CR song.

I would have prefered a new song for comic relief but if its kidz im happy enough with that aswell, hopefully it will sell well and raise money for comic relief.

there is no way Take That would cover a song anymore Kath, they are not Westlife.

yeah exactly, and with any luck Take That will get a top 10, or maybe even a top 5 placing for the song.

looking back at the comic relief singles it looks promising, nearly all have peaked at 1 or 2 in the charts.

If the producers of the show want a cover - they'll get a cover - and any artist asked to do a song for the show should think it an honour and do what they're told - it IS after all about making money (for the charity) you know. I wouldn't know about Westlife - you seem to be more of a fan of them than I am.

Besides - it seems Kidz may be the single after all - a cunning plan for Take That - they may actually get a number 1 with it. A bit of a cop-out as I think it would have done very, very well without CR.

well then they wouldn't have got Take That then, why would they agree to sing a cover 3 months or so after they release the fastest selling album of the century?

looking at the promo single cover of Kidz, i wonder if its coincidence that the artwork is red...hmmmm

They can do a cover version as a b side if they really want one cant they?

I honestly don't think Take That are that bothered what they do. I know Rob was thoroughly surprised (or said he was) when it was announced Morning Sun was the official Sports Relief song! So I wouldn't be surprised if Take That are the last to know this time.

Ya me either, if anything its to do with poularity and what better time than now to get take that to do the comic relief single, its a decision that all parties will gain from but hopefully and most important of all it will raise cash for a very good cause.

it'll be interesting to see the chart performance of Kidz if it is the official single, especially as it is released 2 weeks earlier.....didnt shine hit number 1 selling a little over 50k when it came out in feb/march? i can see at least double that figure buying the single on the night baring in mind the audience averages at around 7-8 million

Shine if my memory serves me right was on the chart a few weeks before it made number 1 and had a low enough debut, shine stuck around the charts for ages and i think to date has sold in or around 400,000. Hopefully kidz could do the same, kidz may entry low enough and bolster to the top of the charts on comic relief week.

I think Kidz would have charted top three anyway. If it IS true that it is the official CR song - then I don't see why it can't go to number 1. Yes I know being a charity song doesn't always equate to a number 1 - but the difference is - Kidz is a good song!

Kath

Ya kidz i think would have done well regardless and comic relief most certainly wont damage its performance thats for sure, i hope it goes number 1 to be honest as i genuinly feel it the flood was robbed of number 1 against JLS which i might add the flood has outsold it by over 100,000 overall, so hopefully kidz can go on to become take thats 12th number 1, even if it doesnt though it will go top 3 for them and should also help progress climb back into the top10 and come one step nearer to hitting 2 million sales.
