Yeah Britney real strong bases are in America and South America (Argentina, Brazil etc). I think my continent is still on Britney so much because when she does promote or tour 80% of it is here.

But I have to agree with you. Britney had just as much as the celebrity and star power but not as much selling power. And I think that is partially to do with the fact her audience was geared toward teenagers while Gaga is to everyone. You also have to think Britney went from a teen pop star to a successful adult pop star. A transition that has never worked out as well for anyone but Britney.

I don't think it's fair to compare BOMT with both The Fame AND The Fame Monster. Obviously sales are going to be quite different because GaGa practically released a mini album to coincide with The Fame. Britney never added songs onto BOMT or released more than 4 singles.
How much did it sell before it was re-released. and you're right. That's equivalent to Britney making BOMT and Oops a re-release.
Yeah... I was going to say that too. If you want to compare their first 2 albums then that is a different story.

I thought the last diamond certified album in the US was Shania Twain's "Up" collection? So why R people comparing Britney & Gaga's sales?

I don't see what the fuss is to be honest.. Britney hasn't actually had a MAJOR hit in the UK since 2004 [Toxic/Everytime, 7 years ago!!], so the fact that she still managed to reach #6 is still a great achievement (if fact, it's a great achievement for any artist!).

But let's be honest here, GaGa is MASSIVE right now, she's an unstoppable machine (and it's pretty obvious that worldwide, Gaga will end up selling loads more than what Britney will). But it shouldn't matter. As long as everyone listens to the music they like to listen to, then chart and sales positions are just irrelevant really.

What?! 'Womanizer', although peaking at #3 went on to sell over 400,000 copies, her best sales for a single since 'Oops!...I Did It Again', 'Toxic' and 'Everytime' sold 360,000+ and 280,000+ respectively.

Yeah, WTF. WOMANIZER. DUH.

And even if she hasn't peaked at #1 since 2004, her single sales have, for the most part, been pretty solid. Piece of Me peaked at #2 and sold quite a bit over 200k too.

Yeah but it's not well remembered like say Toxic or Oops I Did It Again :manson:
At the end of the day, she could be in a far worse position, #06 with no promo is pretty good I'd say. Christina was arguably bigger than her in her 'Stripped' era .... look at her now.

I'm wondering, and don't shout at me here, if HIAM was more of a 'buzz' single (I hate that word).

I only say this because the album is due out in March, so about 6 weeks away, and surely a new single will be released to promote the album, so surely the buzz for HIAM is going to die down very soon.

I get the feeling the single was released to let people know that Brit is still here, and that full on promotion will only start with the second single/album release, I mean, the video premieres tonight, and that is really the main point of promotion for the UK at the moment. I can't see her coming over to here or Europe to promote this song, when she'll be back in a matter of weeks to push the album.

I maybe totally wrong in my view, and the vid might be coupled with performances and the song flies back up the charts, but somehow, I don't see that happening.

The saddest part of this situation is it's now #41 on iTunes, so the video will probably propel to the top 15 of iTunes, IF that? :(

I'm so sad.

You are sad?

omg gurl.

LOL.

Well, she hasn't even started her promo for the single yet and the video is only coming out today... so if anything, this will get the single more attention and revive it for people. I don't think it will die down anytime too soon.

BUT I can see another single being released a bit before or around album release time. Same thing happened with her single Circus being released around the same time as the album.

I think it's at like #52 right now... but I'm sure the video will help. And isn't a good chunk of songs above HIAM just from the BRIT effect?

I think it would be smart to release the second single in mid-March with the video coming out the week before the album drops.

But yeah, after re-reading this thread, I think the main point is promotion.

BOMT era, she done a performance for just about every single over here, plus weren't the release schedules different to the US, so she had time to come over here and promote.

Oops was slightly lessened, and I think only centered towards the first couple of singles.

'Britney' even less so, I think she done an interview and performance for Frank Skinner, around Crossroads time, maybe some more chat shows.

In The Zone, there was the CDUK performances and interviews when she was doing the Onyx tour

Then that's it, apart from The X Factor, so it's no wonder that she doesn't do as well as she used to. People need to relate, and especially new fans want to get to know an artist. Fans who were there from the beginning were treated to interviews, performances and general Britney saturation, If I was a teenager again and discovering Britney, I'd find it very odd that I have the music, but barely an interview or performance to go with it.

If Team Britney pull their fingers out and do proper promotion, in different territories, then I don't think we have anything to worry about.
