May 2, 201114 yr Author Judging by these odds France should win by a landslide... Not necessarily... I *think* Norway had much shorter odds in 2009, and Greece had longer odds than the UK do at present. I personally can't see France winning myself...
May 2, 201114 yr Obviously it's not a certainty but I'm quite surprised how they are leading with this. The juries part is going to praise it to death I think though, as it is "cool" to have a opera-ish artist on a contest like Eurovision. I don't know how the televoters will behave. But if UK loses to France it'll be very sad! I somehow think that #2 is the worst place could happen for us, even worse than last!
May 2, 201114 yr I'm sure we'd live, the UK have good practice of dealing with finishing 2nd (FIFTEEN times ) But I still hope we can win it, but I could potentially see France landsliding it if it connects with the televoters...
May 2, 201114 yr IF they connect, France have it in the bag, but I don't think they will, at least not to the extent needed to win.
May 2, 201114 yr Author I just don't see televoters voting in their droves for it, I really don't. I would say it'll do fairly well with the juries, but even so, as we've seen over the past two years, the juries aren't all too dissimilar from the average televoter. I still think we're going to win it! Imagine if we had a Katrina style win?! I think I'd hyperventilate!!!
May 2, 201114 yr I'm going to be REALLY disappointed if we don't, I've actually built myself up for it unlike in 2009 where there was always the sense that Fairytale had it in the bag and that It's My Time wasn't really quite right for the contest :(
May 2, 201114 yr Author I'm going to be REALLY disappointed if we don't, I've actually built myself up for it unlike in 2009 where there was always the sense that Fairytale had it in the bag and that It's My Time wasn't really quite right for the contest :( Same! I knew we weren't going to win in 2009, but I knew top five was a massive possibility, so I was totally pleased with that! We needed that high finish too, just to remind everyone that we CAN do well. Not that it's made a blind bit of difference though, as despite everyone remembering it at the time, last year's failure has led everyone to completely forget about Jade's success.
May 7, 201114 yr France shortened to 2/1 on William Hill. UK remain 2nd at 6/1, Estona 7/1, Azerbaijan and Hungary both 10/1. The biggest gainers post-rehearsals appear to be France (obviously!), Ireland, Russia and Austria. It really does look like France could landslide this...
May 7, 201114 yr I seriously don't get where all the love for Ireland is coming from? It's quite a good song, and they are kind of amusing, but none of their rehearsals have been anywhere near good...
May 7, 201114 yr I myself, really can't see France winning. Its a dull song and doesn't really go anywhere, and depending on who's performing either side of it, i can see it getting lost and forgotten about, especially considering some of the anthemic tracks there are this year. After watching his first rehearsal too, i wasn't that impressed with his vocal performance, nor the staging, i just think its too dull. Even that Dima Bilan performance/track isn't as dull as it. If France do end up win though, then fine, i'll be proven wrong, but i just can't see it happening.
May 7, 201114 yr Well Italy are performing straight after it so... Seriously, I love Italy, but THAT'S the song I can't see anyone voting for :snif: Mid-table based on jury votes almost exclusively.
May 7, 201114 yr I'm surprised Cyprus haven't shot up the odds, their rehearsal was brilliant and I now adore their entry  . It does have an air of Poland 2010 about it though :heehee:
May 7, 201114 yr It's growing on me a lot. Which I can't say Poland 2010 ever did. I had a sneeking regard for it. The lead female vocalist was superb.
May 8, 201114 yr Irelands odds are also improving which i find surprising as personnely i didnt think we had a hope n hell of qualifying for the final, in some ways im surprised israels odds for winning are so low, usually previous winners have good enough odds when they participate ie niamh kavanagh and charlotte perilli but going by how they performed in the voting its likely dana international wont do much better than both the forementioned did when they took part for a second time.
May 8, 201114 yr Has it been mentioned that Sognu's drum part and rhythmic structure is almost exactly the same as Ravel's Bolero?
May 8, 201114 yr France at 13/8 now and everything else has lengthened (UK 7/1, Estonia 9/1 etc...). It's looking poised to landslide it :o Maybe not as much as Fairytale did but still...to have the next best contender still as low as 7/1 on the week of the final suggests that they have every faith in France.
May 8, 201114 yr I do think France looks like a winner but I think it's going to be a lot closer than the odds might suggest. There is still the issue of how well it'll go down with televoters, which I think won't be as well as with juries.
May 9, 201114 yr Has it been mentioned that Sognu's drum part and rhythmic structure is almost exactly the same as Ravel's Bolero? Every time I listen to it I think of this! I'll be vastly disappointed if France wins really.
May 9, 201114 yr France are now 6/4 with a lot of bookies whilst the UK (still second overall) are down as low as 9/1. The song that I've always thought would be the likely winner of this year's contest is now looking like it could pull off something close to a Fairytale :o There's far more faith in Sognu than they ever had in Satellite.
