March 19, 201114 yr He's charting 'Lipstick' in his personal chart, but it's not exactly something he'd think could beat Sweden.
March 19, 201114 yr Yes Tyron, I have heard all of the other songs. Thank you for your concern on the matter.
March 19, 201114 yr Since Lena, the last winner, is selected again and the venue is her country, she will be in top 3 I think.
March 19, 201114 yr Author Since Lena, the last winner, is selected again and the venue is her country, she will be in top 3 I think. Really?
March 19, 201114 yr What are the chances of a joint winner? No song really stands out and whilst France and UK are currently my fave two Eurovision entries, I don't think either will win (gut instinct). Can't be worse than 2009 where my fave entry ('Lose Control' by Waldo's People) came last purely because it didn't work live on stage, whilst it worked brilliantly in the music video. :dunno: Edit; why isn't there a "dunno" shrugging smilie?
March 19, 201114 yr Author Let's not forget the live performance of Finland was terrible! I don't think a joint winner IS possible, short of both countries getting precisely the same amount of 12s, 10s, 8s, and so on - otherwise the country with more countries voting for them will get the nod.

It was terrible, hence my "purely because it didn't work live on stage" comment. :P It just seems this year doesn't have that one track that stands out - 'Fairytale' was so popular even before the contest the track had started charting in several countries. 'Satellite' last year, whilst it took a while to get going, did eventually do well in Austria and Switzerland prior to the contest. As a keen follower of European charts, once I start seeing Eurovision entries appearing in several charts, I'll have a better idea of what could be 2011's defining entry.
March 19, 201114 yr Author This year probably WILL have that one track that stands out, but we were all saying the same thing this time last year. I have a feeling that what will happen is that we have a track that becomes the favourite with the bookies, we'll be fairly sceptical about its chances (whether or not we want it to win), only for it to get a landslide victory on the night and everyone to abuse the power of hindsight and pretend it was obvious all along.
March 19, 201114 yr Out of curiosity, which country is currently favourite with the bookies to win Eurovision 2011? I read somewhere that UK were third favourites at 7/1?
March 19, 201114 yr France could quite easily be that song that landslides it... But at the same time, I'm sceptical about its power to pick up huge televotes. The only song I was absolutely certain would win was Fairytale. I *hoped* Satellite would win, and had huge confidence in it being able to do so, but there were SO many nay-sayers that even I started to believe that she wouldn't at one point :( My niggling feeling still lies with the UK right now anyway...

One of the reasons why I've started ignoring that bitter old queen who runs Allkindsofeverything, given I'm certain he'll do the same for the UK this year as he comes across rabidly anti-UK - I can't think of a single occasion where he's given anything from the UK (be it in an NF or our actual entry) more than 2/5, and yet he supports Jedward - enough said really.
March 19, 201114 yr France I believe... Interesting. I didn't actually know that yet I'm currently ranking France as my personal fave too. Maybe it's a sign. :o France could quite easily be that song that landslides it... But at the same time, I'm sceptical about its power to pick up huge televotes. This time last year, I think everyone thought 'Drip Drop' was going to be THE song of Eurovision 2010 after the track leaked and people heard what was undoubtably a very strong pop track. I had 'Drip Drop' down as the winner last year right up until the night of Eurovision. The performance for 'Drip Drop' was a bit odd and for me lessened the song. Whereas 'Satellite' got the biggest reaction from the audience and the simple but effective performance sold it for me - that was the point I thought Germany could actually win (prior to Lena's performance, I had Germany down as coming second).
March 19, 201114 yr Author I had Azerbaijan down as the winner until they were drawn first after the semis.
March 19, 201114 yr It should be noted that whilst France are top on William Hill, ESTONIA are the top on oddschecker (i.e. all bookies put together) Great song but it would be the most shocking winner since Marie N! I just really can't see it having the potential to pick up high scores left, right and centre.

The blog's hugely useful for dress rehearsal updates and other info but good god if I believed his diabolical predictions (and tips on where to put money), I'd be a very poor man at this point. Literally worse than Pavel at predicting outcomes in things, even in fairly clear cut contests. I'm sorry, like it or not, It's My Time was never going to miss the top ten in 2009 - and as for Satellite being 'not top ten at this stage', a couple of days before the final, yet also being top ten on iTunes in about 8 countries at this point and with the huge hype surrounding Lena and the song - was an incredibly laughable prediction. Even in my incredibly hesitant pre-final prediction when I'd started to believe all of the haters, I still couldn't find it in me to believe that she'd finish lower than 2nd! His age old 'he/she has a poor live vocal so expect it 15 places lower than the bookies predict' argument is nonsense, I can't think of ANY potential winner that's fallen well down the eventual scoreboard on the night because of a weaker than expected vocal. I've always been a firm believer that it's a song contest and casual viewers take less notice of a perfect vocal (it's not X Factor after all).

I just really can't see it having the potential to pick up high scores left, right and centre. I had to refer back to my top 43 as I couldn't remember what their entry was. 'Rockefeller Street' :D Well it's certainly one of the better tracks going into Eurovision currently amongst my "Ok" category and ranked 12th at the moment overall for me. I agree though, I just can't see 'Rockefeller Street' winning. I've always been a firm believer that it's a song contest and casual viewers take less notice of a perfect vocal (it's not X Factor after all). Tell that to Louis Walsh (Jedward), Simon Cowell (Danyl Johnson), Dannii Minogue (Leon Jackson) and Cheryl Cole (Katie Waissel). :kink: Pfft, looks like all the judges insist on supporting their own acts regardless of how badly they butcher a song live on national TV in front of millions of viewers. Imagine if Jemini 'Cry Baby' had managed to go top 10 on the final leaderboard after they butchered their own song in front of every country in Europe. :heehee: (yeah, t'was never gonna happen was it? :D )
March 23, 201114 yr Maybe he meant the full results of what each countries tele-vote & jury gave to each song. In 2009 we had a spreadsheet for jury results, with all points given, and one for the tele-vote. Couldn't find that last year  Exactly !! Isnt that weird or not ?
March 23, 201114 yr Cant you see that? There are 2 countries leading europe ,the make all the decisions for the EU, GERMANY AND FRANCE. Last year, we saw Germany wins with an average song for juries .The first year of juries(2009), we saw juries voted for quality songs like iceland ,un kindom and france , and last year they voted for "i even painted my toe nails for you " hehe. as i said i wrote before they didnt gave us the full results until now. Now ,france is the best favor this year , what do you think ? all these are coincidences ?
March 24, 201114 yr ESC EXPERT... Lena's song was most definitely quality. You appear to be defining 'quality' as a classy sort of song, as the United Kingdom, Iceland and France all had in 2009. And if you're going by that, then France's 2011 song falls into the same category anyway. You're forgetting they also voted overwhelmingly for the quirky 'Fairytale', a song not too dissimilar from 'Satellite' in terms of its audience reach... I don't really understand what sort of point you're trying to make here, that the whole thing is fixed for Germany and France to win? There will always be these ridiculous fix allegations, but that is SERIOUSLY clutching at straws. And besides, the 2010 juries also voted overwhelmingly for 'quality' songs such as Belgium, Georgia and Israel. Your whole argument is flawed tbh.
