Posted March 7, 201115 yr Adele’s 21 heading for seventh week at one 10:58 | Tuesday March 8, 2011 By Paul Williams Source: MW Singles XL artist Adele appears to face a harder task retaining her singles crown compared to her albums one with Someone Like You currently just 6,000 sales ahead of Island/Lava’s Price Tag by Jessie J featuring BoB in second place. The pair were one and two on last Sunday’s final chart and positions three, four and five are also exactly the same in the emerging chart week, respectively occupied by Def Jam/Mercury’s Rihanna with S&M, Interscope/Polydor’s Lady GaGa with Born This Way and XL’s Adele with Rolling In The Deep. Atlantic act Wiz Khalifa’s Black And Yellow is the highest new release showing on the chart, currently a place below in 14th spot another former Billboard Hot 100 number one, Till The World Ends by Britney Spears. The Sony release was 55 on last Sunday’s chart. Polydor’s New York act The Pierces are set to make the Top 40 on Sunday with their newly-issued You’ll Be Mine. Albums Adele appears to be holding off a heavyweight challenge this week from Elbow and REM as she looks to spend a seventh week at number one on the UK artist albums chart. Her second studio set 21 is around 14,000 sales ahead of the newly-issued Elbow album Build A Rocket Boys, with Island/Lava’s Jessie J's Who Are You in third place and the brand new REM album Collapse Into You fourth at this point in the week, according to OCC Data. If 21 does remain at number one when the new chart is published this Sunday it will become XL’s longest-running number one outright, surpassing the six weeks it currently shares with Prodigy album The Fat Of The Land. Elbow’s new Fiction album, meanwhile, is likely to give the veteran band their highest chart peak yet in the UK, beating the number five peak of its predecessor and Mercury winner The Seldom Seen Kid. In contrast, unless Collapse Into You’s status improves rapidly it will be the first REM studio album since Up in 1998 not to reach number one and the lowest charting since their introductory Warner Bros set Green reached 27 in 1988. In a busy week for new albums, Mercury’s Noah & The Whale’s Last Night On Earth and RCA act Avril Lavigne’s Goodbye Lullaby are also likely to start in the Top 10 and at this stage of the week are ranked sixth and seventh respectively. Other new albums expected to appear in this coming Sunday’s Top 40 include DMGTV’s Daniel O’Donnell with Moon Over Ireland, Lasers by Atlantic’s Lupe Fiasco, Roadrunner’s self-titled Slash set and Domino’s re-issue of Queen Of The Stone Age’s own self-titled first album. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Top 40 Only Singles 1 Adele {6k ahead / 33k} 2 Jessie J ft. March 7, 201115 yr Author Adele's 19 sells millionth copy 11:09 | Wednesday March 9, 2011 Source: MW By Paul Williams Adele’s first album 19 has surpassed 1m sales in the UK, just days after its follow-up 21 reached the same milestone. The 2008 XL release sold its one-millionth copy yesterday morning as it continued a revival in sales started last year when several contestants on The X Factor performed in her style the Bob Dylan song Make You Feel My Love, which features on 19. Two years after coming out, the album was the 85th biggest-selling artist title of 2010, selling 155,294 copies during the year, while up to the end of last week it had sold another 256,534 copies this year to stand as 2011’s fourth-biggest artist album behind 21, Def Jam/Mercury artist Rihanna’s Loud and Elektra/Atlantic act Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans. Adele’s first album is only the third issued by XL to reach 1m sales in the UK with the second, 21, hitting seven figures last week. Its first million seller, Prodigy’s 1997 The Fat Of The Land, remains the independent company’s all-time biggest seller both in the UK and globally. The album 21 is on course to spend a seventh consecutive week at number one this coming Sunday, having already sold an additional 70,000 copies this week. It will be the longest run at number one since Sony’s The Essential Michael Jackson album spent seven weeks at the top during July and August 2009 following Jackson's death and the lengthiest by an indie release since Independiente’s Travis album the Man Who spent a ninth week at the top in March 2000. However, this run was non-consecutive. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Wednesday Update - Top 40 Only Singles 1 Adele 2 Jessie J ft. March 8, 201115 yr Happy 5th Birthday, Buzzjack Adele for a 4th week at No1 in the singles chart. Probably an non-changeable top10 again although Britney could scape into the Top10.
March 8, 201115 yr Author Its going to be an interesting singles chart today especially the top 10, how many non movers will there be, maybe around 6-8 non movers. Anyhow it be nice seeing another act at #1 for 4 weeks, instead of the weekly turnover of last year.
March 8, 201115 yr Happy 5th Birthday, Buzzjack Adele for a 4th week at No1 in the singles chart. Probably an non-changeable top10 again although Britney could scape into the Top10. Britney has a 0.01% chance of going top 10 officially this week - in fact, given that it is about to drop like a rock on iTunes, I'd say she'll be doing well to stay top 20. Wiz should debut around #11-#15 today but I expect him to be well within the top 10 officially by the end of the week. Looks like another #1/#2 for Adele/Jessie in the singles and albums unless someone Elbows their way in.
March 8, 201115 yr Hopefully Avril won't do to bad, the album is so amazing  I reckon 'What the hell' could get a new peak :kink:
March 8, 201115 yr Another week of barely any change in the top 5 (well none this week to be precise!). Very pleased that we're finally getting another 4 weeker, 2011 is already shaping up to be a FAR better year than 2010, musically and chart wise imo.
March 8, 201115 yr Bravo for Adele! Would like to see a bit of a shake-up in the rest of Top 10 though! Tinie & Ellie up to #11, could they finally crack Top 10? And Avril climbing again, now #20, what a slow burner!! Hopefully the Glee version of Hey Soul Sister won't beat Train's peak, doesn't deserve to!!
March 8, 201115 yr Hold It against Me has picked up a lot of video play though, so it could have climbed!
March 8, 201115 yr Hold It against Me has picked up a lot of video play though, so it could have climbed! Check the iTunes chart, as Hayzaay say's it is pretty obvious which one is #13.
March 8, 201115 yr Check the iTunes chart, as Hayzaay say's it is pretty obvious which one is #13. I don't have itunes on my work computer, sorry
March 8, 201115 yr Author Foo Fighters, Nicki Minaj, Breakage, Hype Squad, Glee/Gwyneth, Britney (HIAM) have left the top 40 singles from last week Ouch for Clare Maguire down 15 places :o
