01 (01) Adele - Someone Like You (01-01-01-01) [4 wks]

02 (02) Jessie J feat. B.o.B. - Price Tag (01-01-02-02-02-02) [6 wks] Not getting bored of Adele or Jessie yet then!?! :P Matching UK chart runs/Hits chart runs!

Compared to early 2010, 2011 has got off to an amazing start with more or less all brilliant #1 singles (the only two I couldn't care less for being 'What's My Name?' and 'We R Who We R'). So yes, for the time being I'm milking the magical wave of Adele and Jessie J while it lasts.

05 (--) Wiz Khalifa - Black And Yellow (05) [1 wk] Didn't expect this to do so well for you! I find it ok but it's a little empty and repetitive for me to love it

I actually like 'Black And Yellow'!!! Obviously it was never going anywhere near my #1 spot and I'd say there is a gap between Wiz and RiRi at #4 in terms of popularity.

10 (08) Lady GaGa - Born This Way (05-05-08-10) [4 wks] Hmm, definitely her weakest single in a long time I've decided :( I never go to listen to it out of choice, god knows it gets played enough elsewhere

I still think 'Born This Way' is 85% great but the rap really does do the song no justice at all. I can just about tolerate the reprise of "don't be a drag..." but the rapping really is pointless. Madonna didn't do rapping justice on her track 'American Life' so what made Lady GaGa think she could pull off rapping? It really doesn't work.

18 (--) McFly - That's The Truth (18) [1 wk] Third decent single on the trot from McFly, surprised this has flopped so hard :o

It's good but nowhere near as strong as 'Shine A Light' which ultimately overshadowed 'Party Girl' for me. It actually took me by surprise that McFly's second single this era successfully outperformed their lead single. One thing McFly never achieved in their early days. Maybe it's a change in times now where if a track is good enough/popular, it will still be a hit even if it's the follow up to a relatively small hit.

25 (27) Noah & The Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. (06-07-13-19-27-25) [6 wks] I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised by the strength of their new album!

Oh, have you bought it? Do you recommend it? I've started listening to 'L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.' more over the last week hence its slight climb back up this week. Might even return to my top 20 - the song never gets boring, it's just I've not really played it as much over these last few weeks.

39 (29) Claydee & Dimension-X - Call Me (10-20-29-39) [4 wks] Like a UK chart run for a typical random dance top ten hit in 2000

Yeah, I've gone off this a bit actually. It was good while it lasted. :D The comparisons are purely co-incidental.

Cheers Richard :D

2. I agree, although I've liked or loved all of the UK #1's so far this year :D What's My Name being my favourite...

10. I know what you mean, and that 'don't be a drag' bit is actually quite offputting for me too. I don't know, the whole song just feels nowhere near as groundbreaking as I think she wanted it to be.

18. That would be a good thing, songs should do well/badly based on merit imo! I mean what if Oasis had released Sunday Morning Call as their lead single in 2000, it would have inevitably been a (crap) #1 :drama: Thankfully it was hit by the law of diminishing returns!

25. Yep I did buy it, it's very feel good so yeah I do recommend it if you're usually a fan of them.

Amazing top 10 :D

2. You already know my thoughts on 'WMN?' :P Still, a decent start and I do hope this continues. 2010 had its fair share of forgettable non no. 1 singles so hopefully 2011 will revert back to 2009 - a year of mostly great chart toppers.

10. I'm not sure if "groundbreaking" was the direction Lady GaGa was heading for but she's dominating the US charts with four weeks at #1 there already. I am intrigued though how the record company will handle the release of 'Judas'. Preferably, they will shoot a music video and get that playlisted on the music channels on a Friday (so it's played a lot over the weekend). Then add to radio/retail on the Sunday and with the video in heavy rotation would surely send the song to #1 (assuming it's a good song :P ). I think Jessie J is the only artist (or record company) who got the "to radio, to retail" idea 100% spot on by having the music video already on the music channels.

18. Lest we forget 2000 wasn't a year of excellent UK no. 1 singles - whilst there were some great tracks, there were also a lo of grate tracks also topping the charts. -_-

25. I will check out the preview clips on iTunes and see what I think.

01 (01) Adele - Someone Like You (01-01-01-01) [4 wks] This is beginning to get on my wick now

Oh Mikey!!! :( I don't think I will ever get bored of 'Someone Like You', especially the Brit Awards version as I personally think the way Adele changes the melody to the chorus when she performs the song live sounds better than how she sings the chorus on the album version. Still, an excellent track nonetheless and the sentiment of "less is more" couldn't be more true in this case.

Your top 2 looks like the official top 2 singles for the past 6 weeks :o

That's because it is the same as the official top 2 singles!!! :P Both tracks are excellent imo and deserve their massive success.

29 (25) Crystal Castles feat. Robert Smith - Not In Love (01-01-02-03-04-06-08-11-12-17-22-25-29) [13 wks] Amazing chart run, still in my personal chart as well

'Not In Love' is indeed ace and was probably the most unlikely #1 for me in 2010 - alongside Paul Weller 'No Tears To Cry' but every so often I hear a song that's incredible and it does top my personal chart regardless of whether it bombs in the UK. I've always admitted my tastes in music are commercial but I also appreciate the musical merits of smaller hits.

It's not unusual for me to have a top 2 that mirrors the UK top 20 - maybe not for as many as six weeks but I love 'Someone Like You' and really like 'Price Tag'.

In bold: surprisingly really good songs :D

Aahh yes, the wonders of MTV2 who if it wasn't for this music channels, I'd have never heard the tracks by James Vincent McMorriw and Miles Kane. The Go! Team I discovered on YouTube but all three tracks are great.

Yeah, it's UK chart run of 22-69 is horrendous but not surprising. It got as high as #22 on fanbase alone but once the diehard fans have bought 'Rope' who is left to buy the song in its second week? :( Plus, the fact it's one of their best tracks in a while, I'm sure their album is going to sell bucketloads. At least Foo Fighters are surely likely to go #1 when their album is released. As for 'Rope', maybe the track will get a boost in sales after the albums release. They've also released the music video too which, whilst it looks like it was done on a £20 budget, I find strangely captivating to watch.

09 (11) Kanye West - All Of The Lights (14-11-09) [3 wks] Love it... don't understand how this hasn't gone top 40

I really don't understand either. I wonder if 'AOTL' would've performed better had it been the lead single therefore all radio stations weren't put off this track because it wasn't following three flop singles. Then again, have the UK forgiven Kanye West for the Taylor Swift incident when he said Beyonce's video was better. Dare I say it, I actually agreed with Kanye, but the way he went about it didn't do him any favours. Still nowhere near as bad as Chris Brown beating Rihanna yet look at him now; two songs in the UK top 10 - both of them $h!te!!! -_- It really makes you wonder what the music buying UK public are thinking.

Amazing top 10 :D

:D No love for Adele though? :(

Cheers MG :D

I'm the same with the "Rope" video, I kind of wish they'd gone more big-budget with the video though since it might have stopped the song from nosediving :(

I was just thinking that about Kanye/Chris Brown, it seems so strange yet I think it's kind of become plain that after doing one album of music he was genuinely into ("Grafitti"), Brown has just gone all-out for winning back public affection with really commercial, of-the-moment material and collaborations. Kanye on the other hand made an absolute masterpiece yet has seen very little commercial reward - in the UK at least.

With Adele, "Rolling In The Deep" has grown on me a lot but "Someone Like You" is still the kind of song that I see as very good but have very little personal response to. It doesn't really divide opinion, I can't imagine people hating the song but I'm just not as in love with it as everyone else.

Well 'Rope' seems to have recovered albeit only slightly going back into the top 100 on iTunes. I suppose a bigger budget video would be more appealing to the major music channels but it's the Foo Fighters. What's strange is that as cheap looking as the video to 'Rope' is, I still think it's better than the video to 'Hold It Against Me' which clearly had a big budget - but clearly a lack of imagination from the director. -_-

In other words Chris Brown has sold out - or moreso sold his soul to the devil. :kink: I've never been a fan of Chris Brown - it's got nothing to do with his incident with Rihanna. I genuinely think he's a terrible vocalist and is extremely overrated for what he does. For eg; 'No Air' would've been an incredible Jordin Sparks song had Chris Brown not featured and tainted the song with his painfully strained vocals. He just can't sing. Another example is his remix of 'Umbrella'; 'Cinderella' - vocally abysmal. :puke: Kanye West will hopefully reap the rewards of 'All Of The Lights' as the track has suddenly rocketed back up iTunes and was inside the top 40 as of last night. 'AOTL' is going to have a really bizarre chart run but I'd like to see this song get the success it deserves, and just forget the fact it follows three flop singles.

I still love '21' and there's not only 'RITD' and 'SLY' but also 'Set Fire To The Rain' which has become another personal fave. I'm hoping it will be confirmed as the next single. With a decent music video, I can see Adele score herself another top 10 hit with this even though the album has already sold over 1 million copies.
