March 15, 201114 yr Author Except 2nd is notorious for being the 'death slot' in ESC. Nobody's ever won a semi or a final (in 50+ years of contests!) from the second slot. The slot lacks the initial impact of performing in 1st and opening the show, or being in the second half and more remembered by televoters. I can't see Haba Haba not qualifying, but it's pretty much the worst slot it could have got :( Aaaaaaw :arrr: I don't mind not winning the semi final.. I just hope we qualify :o
March 15, 201114 yr Hmm, well I'm not one for reading too much into the draws, as I reckon they don't have as much of an effect as most people think they do. However, Austria will be distraught with that result. They have to hope the juries will give them as much support as they gave Portugal last year. Even though Greece and Ireland have got the last spots, I think it won't help either of them. Since the semi finals were introduced, unless the song has been respectable, the last drawn entries have failed to qualify (Ivan & Delfin, The Toppers & Silvia Night). The only possible exceptions to the rule are Bonaparti.lv and Re-Union, but even though I hated them, both were decent enough musically. UK in 14th, not very good, but we could have had much worse. Turkey were 14th in the draw last year, but then Malta were 14th in 2009, so one can't read too much into that slot :heehee:
March 15, 201114 yr Hmm... Norway is drawn for #2.... The best we could have got was 9... So I guess it's better to be in the begining then in the middle? I wouldn't worry too much. Israel was the only song to qualify from the first six songs to be performed in 2008, and they were drawn in second...
March 15, 201114 yr Estonia #15, great :cheer: Why is 15 great for Estonia but bad luck for Hungary? It's great for both really - particularly as Hungary is now between two slower songs which will make less of an impact.
March 15, 201114 yr Ireland #19 - oh god, Jedward are going to qualify :snif: What, like The Netherlands did from the same spot in 2009? :P If a song and a performance are bad a position isn't going to help them... Overall I don't think position matters as much with the semis as with the final as there's far less correlation between placings and results in the semis (apart from it being generally good to go towards the end ) - so far as I know anyway, the juries seem to be doing an alright job of making it less of a disadvantage to go on early.
March 15, 201114 yr Ireland last :( They MIGHT have a slight chance of getting through the semis now :'(
March 15, 201114 yr LMAO just noticed - two songs in Italian in a row  Incorrect, one's in Corsican.
March 15, 201114 yr Incorrect, one's in Corsican. You humiliated me, the language freak. :( 'Gratz! :o Still it's very close to Italian.
March 15, 201114 yr Might write a review later, but I don't think the spots matter too much, more of which other songs an entry is surrounded by (a ballad surrounded by up-tempos probably has more chance than being surrounded by more ballads). Not too bad for the UK, past halfway, could've been a lot worse. That will be more of what's next to us. Belgium & Ireland to qualify, so they can take spots 13 & 15 :kink:
March 15, 201114 yr ^Partially, yes. Ireland were DESTROYED last year by going on next to Belarus, and we were destroyed by going on before Greece. And by having a terrible song, but it was so limp that Greece going on after pretty much made everyone forget.

And by having a terrible song, but it was so limp that Greece going on after pretty much made everyone forget. We were destroyed the moment Pete Waterman revealed the song, we could have performed last next to three ballads and would have still come last.
March 15, 201114 yr Oh, I think we could've scraped second last perhaps if we'd gone on last or something.
March 15, 201114 yr so if we go by past events we can see Norway failing in the semi and Ireland sailing through to the grand final :o :drama: oh and I still think the UK got this in the bag ^_^
March 15, 201114 yr Author No one have ever won on starting position 2, 16, 21, 23 and 25 :o Most wins have happened on starting position 17th :o
March 18, 201114 yr If only Ireland got such a good slot in 2009 when sinead mulvey and black daisy were representing us, but they got the dreaded #2 slot, had that been performed last it would have qualified, i still think its such a shame it didnt qualify. Back to jedward though id like to believe no matter where they perform wont help them but jedward are annoying but lucky buggers so they may just qualify.
