Posted July 26, 200618 yr With all the current hoo-ha about Lily Allen,George Michael and Pete Docherty in the press, are they really as bad as the 60's and 70's bad boys and girls. I'm thinking off Jim Morrison flashing himself on stage,Mick Jagger arrested for drugs,Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix overdosing,Jim Morrison choking on his vomit,Brian Jones drowning in a swimming pool,Keith Moon, etc etc. Are todays so called stars really worse than the old brigade.
July 26, 200618 yr nah... I think drugs are an essential tool for the creativity of making music. If anything, these lot are tame in comparison, I mean.... where are the Primal Scream of this era, for one thing? Pete Doherty's a standing joke, so we won't even mention him...
July 26, 200618 yr They are light weights in comparison to the old days .... it's just thanks to our intrusive media, that things are more readily revealed.
July 28, 200618 yr I'm in agreement, today's Pop/Rock stars are a bunch of pussies compared to the likes of Ozzy, Jim Morrison, Syd Barratt, Jagger, Lou Reed, Bowie, etc.... They cant seem to handle their drugs and totally go off the rails (eg, Pete Doherty)..... I think the problem is, today's Pop and Rock stars are taking drugs for the wrong reasons to be honest, in the 60s, Rock Stars took drugs quite literally to "break on through to the other side" and operate on a higher level of consciousness, which translated into often absolutely compelling music (you couldn't write an album like "Piper At The Gates of Dawn" or a song like "The End" totally straight could you...?); whereas much of today's lot just seem to do it "cos it looks cool and hard, innit" and they dont seem to give a toss about actually doing it to enhance their music (which would explain why Pete Doherty is so c**p...)
July 28, 200618 yr Grimly... can we ban this backward Scandanavian, please? Not up to me I'm afraid. Ask Mushy, he Mods this Forum... If he starts his nonsense on Cinema or Perspectives Forums though, his ass is mine......
