Posted March 16, 201114 yr They have proven that both in the last like 50 years that both are crap When will there be another big party we can support?
March 16, 201114 yr When will there be another big party we can support? We did last year, with the Lib Dems... and look how that worked out
March 16, 201114 yr Author On what basis have you said they're $h!te? My Grandad and Nan and all the old people who come to my salon. Said this country has go $h!ttier each passing year and used to be better 50 years ago Even people I know who come to the salon in their 30s and 40s said its got crapper. So surely they must be doing something wrong hunny?

So surely they must be doing something wrong hunny? Do you know who was in government before that? During the 30s and 40s? (Which was when we had a bloody world war on, so I find it a bit warped that people think it was better then anyway)
March 16, 201114 yr Author Doesnt matter. Im talking about from he last 50 years which is from the 60s. I kinda wish I had been born in the 50s and grew up in the 60s and 70s. It seemed a much more simpler time  Never said it was better in the 30s and 40s. That would be 70 to 80 years ago I think.

Okay then, do you know which two parties have constantly been in government in the period you're talking about?
March 16, 201114 yr I can't wait 'til Grimly sees this topic. Seconded. And the self-appointed QoL

March 16, 201114 yr Everybody thinks that what happened before was always better. It's called nostalgia, remembering what was good about the past whilst conveniently remembering what was good. I love 80s music and at points I wished I'd been able to live through it. Then I remember the miner's strike, the milk snatchers, the deaths of the hunger strikers, and Thatcher, then realise I'm glad to have been born in 1990.

But you werent actually around in the 70s or 80s then unlike the old people who I talk to at the salon?
March 16, 201114 yr But you werent actually around in the 70s or 80s then unlike the old people who I talk to at the salon? As I am not Marty McFly, Theodore Logan nor Austin Powers, no.
March 16, 201114 yr The reasons people give for things being better in the 60s (or any other decade you care to mention) are usually nonsense. The most common reason is "we could leave the door open and be perfectly safe." Why was that? Because there was nothing worth stealing in most homes. If they had a television it would be too heavy and bulky to carry easily. There would have been very little cash lying around. Were the streets safer? Of course not. Now people get excessively paranoid about hoodies, then it was mods and rockers. Do they really want to go back to a time when homosexuality was illegal? A time when women died at the hands of back street abortionists because abortion was illegal? A time when it was perfectly legal to pay women less than men doing exactly the same job? A time when it was legal to discriminate against someone because of their race? A time when hardly anyone could afford to go abroad for a holiday? Maybe they do but I know I don't.
March 16, 201114 yr Does liking country music make me left or right? In America, it normally points to Republicanism/rightness.
March 16, 201114 yr Labour and Conservative are indeed both crap, but Shelli's points are abysmal and don't even go near why both parties are $h!t.
March 16, 201114 yr Labour and Conservative are indeed both crap, but Shelli's points are abysmal and don't even go near why both parties are $h!t. I feel I should at least partly disagree being a Labour Party member, but I'm open to accepting the party lost their touch partly in recent years. Blair was never going to be as good as, for instance, Clement Attlee but the way he started pointed to things being a bit better than they are now. The Tories have (imo) always been crap and just go through phases of being better at disguising it. They were in one of those up until last year - then they got into power. Coincidence?

OK maybe Labour havent ALWAYS been crap, but they have in their last run of office, "new Labour" was complete bollocks, it does look like they are on the up with Milliband, so we'll see, but there are some things that just can't be forgiven (taking us to war being the top one). I should always be clear, as $h!t as labour have been, they have been no where near as bad as the Tories are now, and had been for their last few run's in office (Major, Thatcher). i'll be honest i don't have too much knowledge of pre-Thatcher days when it comes to politics. i would like some 'fresh blood', obviously Lib Dems were not the answer I was hoping them to be, I can't see myself voting for a "big" party for the next 10 years, I waaaay more trust Green than any of them.
March 16, 201114 yr The last Labour government's term can be split in two - pre Sep 11 2001 and post Sep 11 2001. Most of what they did before that date was good but things went horribly wrong as soon as the Twin Towers were struck. The Lib Dems should have provided much needed fresh blood but Clegg is far too concerned with presenting a united front and showing that coalition governments can get things done. However, there's a difference between getting things done and doing the right thing.
