Some great tracks there. The following five I have on my mp3 meaning they are getting some recurrent airplay from me:

14 10 BE MY LOVER La Bouche

10 8 ONE OF US Joan Osborne

8 6 MISSING (Remix) Everything But The Girl

13 13 1979 Smashing Pumpkins

5 1 ONE SWEET DAY Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men :D

And the following five are very good also:

1 5 BECAUSE YOU LOVED ME Celine Dion

7 11 IRONIC Alanis Morissette

15 12 WONDERWALL Oasis

2 4 NOBODY KNOWS Tony Rich Project

9 9 TIL I HEAR IT FROM YOU Gin Blossoms

TBH, I actually prefer this top 20 to current US top 20 (even thou the current is quite decent also).

Why 'One Sweet Day' spent 16 weeks at #1 in USA I'll never know. Well, I guess it was the biggest female singer and "boyband" of the time so they were a combined forced. Agree with Dre, 'Fantasy' is much better - I even like 'Honey' although it's not exactly got classic status.

Songs I know and love(d):

1 5 BECAUSE YOU LOVED ME Celine Dion <--- decent ballad and not overblown

2 4 NOBODY KNOWS Tony Rich Project <--- fairly decent but nothing more than that

7 11 IRONIC Alanis Morissette <--- loved this at the time, still a great track

8 6 MISSING (Remix) Everything But The Girl <---

10 8 ONE OF US Joan Osborne <--- never got the big deal with this

11 NE REAL LOVE Beatles <--- The Beatles wrote some classic tracks, this isn't one of them (hence why it was "lost" - they probably just didn't like it :D )

13 13 1979 Smashing Pumpkins <--- fairly decent indie track, preferred 'Tonight' and 'Bullet With Butterfly Wings' more

14 10 BE MY LOVER La Bouche <---

15 12 WONDERWALL Oasis <--- Britpop anthem but I prefer other Oasis tracks more

16 18 ANYTHING 3T <--- ca$hing in on the Jackson name -_-

18 14 EXHALE Whitney Houston <--- hardly a classic, I just about remember this

19 35 1-2-3-4 (SUMPIN' NEW) Coolio <--- 'Gangsta's Paradise' was such an anthem, Coolio was never gonna have another smash hit as big

Old enough?? YES! I was 11, never EVER turned the radio off and belonged to one of those music clubs ("buy 12 CDs for the price of 1!") so I must have owned half the songs on this chart! Actually, I count 11/20 that I owned. Those were the days... this is why the retro chart threads are so great.

Some classics here, particularly Wonderwall, Be My Lover, Missing and Ironic. One of Us was immensely popular but always kind of irritated me.

Hits, I'd say "Honey" definitely has classic status, especially with the video :o :D

Never got the fuss about "Nobody Knows" until a couple of years ago when I heard it again - really good ballad and the lyrics are what made it such a good song. Miss those R&B ballads

One Of Us, definitely got a soft spot for it - was huge here in Europe too ;)

This is a GREAT top 20. Very varied, too, in comparison to most of the Hot 100 charts in the last god knows how many years. Some really good R&B tunes from back when it was actually good - Tony Rich Project, Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly, D'Angelo. Mini British invasion with Everything but the Girl and Oasis smashing over there (and then a few others like Spice Girls, Donna Lewis, Mark Morrison following not long after). La Bouche is a funny one - flopped here but the US loved it, pretty rare for a dance track. It was ok though. And I'm not going to lie, I love that 3T song. Rest of their stuff was crap though.

To be honest, the only real dud here is the Gin Blossoms. Can't stand that kind of US alt-rock/pop, and there was loads of bands like them back then  I blame R.E.M. Thankfully most of them barely made any impact over in the UK though.

Be My Lover was such a worldwide smash that its almost unbelievable how it missed the UK :o

It was the 'Alors On Danse' of its time. Absolutely massively popular "eurodance" track in so many countries but perhaps too serious to have enough novelty value with the UK crowd. Same with 'Be My Lovers' - it had a more serious tone to the track despite being a beauty of a Eurodance 90s anthem. That might explain why La Bouche failed to dominate, whilst Outhere Brothers dominated. If even topped my personal chart when I used to write one back in 1995. :D
