Rather good news!

Basically this is a list by music snobs of albums everyone should hear and own. Most of the discs are hella boring but somehow Mariah has snuck in there despite being hated by critics.

I think 'Butterfly' is her most interesting and well-made album (though I prefer 'Daydream') so it makes sense it's there. It's also the only album from her mid-90s heyday to feature hip producers and the ballads are quite understated. It's about divorce so it's a concept album of sorts too.

That's why I think that album made the list and none of the others.

 

Do you think they made the right choice? Is it her most critically-acclaimed work for a reason?

Well, I prefer Daydream too, but Butterfly has some great songs like 'Butterfly, My All, Breakdown, Outside' :D

VERY deserving Butterfly is one of the best albums EVER.

I'm 99% thrilled she's there and 1% disappointed there's only one entry for her.

Maybe 90/10 actually.

There are some surprising albums in the 1001.

 

I'd love to read the review of 'Baby One More Time'

Baby One More Time is quite good, but nowhere near the standard of ANY of Mariah's albums in my view.

I only ever liked the singles. Even if it's an amazing pop album how are they going to sell it to the snobs that this book is geared towards?

My point exactly, most of the people who would read this dirge will be lovers of the old Beatles and such like, I highly doubt they're going to appreciate the likes of Mariah and Britney taking up places.
