August 23, 201113 yr That's a brilliant review from the states Bev. The interest around the World is amazing to see Gill, and none of it is forced, it's the quality he's presented that has caused the interest and plaudits. I'm proud and exicted by what's coming up Edited August 23, 201113 yr by Sweetwilliamfan
August 23, 201113 yr Thanks to Bumblies on Baby D for this: From New Music.. Will Young at his finest. The album is so beautifully lush, solid and consistent I could cry (dramatic but true). It’s really nice to see one of the best voices in the industry finally getting it right and shifting into a direction that showcases what they are capable of best. Falsetto, high register, deep register, whatever it is you want, Will has got it to offer. Highly recommended. 5/5 There are a couple of people disappointed on Will's thread on PJ who were expecting, I think, a much harder sound. I think the above comment just about sums it up - Echoes is beautifully lush - obviously not for the faction who prefer club thumpers but it certainly seems to be pushing the buttons of those who prefer a more 'chilled' album. People were able to hear the album for themselves before making their mind up so if they were disappointed then they have lost nothing financially. Each to their own - I love it  Edited August 23, 201113 yr by munchkin

Here are both if his tweets..loving the last one. LarryFlickLarry Flick "Echoes," @Will_Young31's new album, is intensely reminiscent of @GeorgeMichael's "Older" and "Listen Without Prejudice."LarryFlickLarry Flick Actually, "Echoes" by @Will_Young31 is luxuriously lush & beautiful, if far too subtle for current pop ears. Love how gentle & smart it is.

Each to their own - I love it  I totally agree Chris, this is Wills boldest move so far, but i still dont think hes actually at where he wants to be, i still feel this album is a transition, like many before he has gently taken us where he wants to go, i think maybe the next album (god weve only just got this one and im already looking to the next :D ) will be more like History, he takes baby steps carefully crafting us a road to follow, without too many potholes, he will take things to the next level when he is comfortable with it, I think History was his tip his toe in the water track for this album and think hes being clever with The way i see, think that may be the toe in the water for the next album ... im excited where ever he takes us :cheer:

August 24, 201113 yr Thanks to Janet. Amazon's review By amazon - See all my reviewsThis review is from: Echoes (Audio CD) Considering the amount of TV talent show contestants ruthlessly chewed up and spat out by the industry within months of their record deal, it's quite a feat that the original Pop Idol, Will Young, is still here, almost ten years after rather awkwardly bopping along to "Blame It on the Boogie" in front of a then-unknown Simon Cowell. After begrudgingly toeing the party line with his easy listening debut album, Young has effortlessly continued to progress his sound and take more creative control with each release, to the point that it's now quite easy to forget his manufactured beginnings, and his fifth studio album, "Echoes", is no exception. Inspired by the positive reaction toward his Bronski Beat-esque collaboration with Groove Armada ("History"), Young has recruited one half of the duo, Andy Cato, alongside Pascal Gabriel (Ladyhawke), Kish Mauve (Kylie), and Swedish duo the Sound of Arrows to co-write 13 highly personal tracks that largely eschew his trademark MOR blue-eyed soul in favor of an understated electro sound that perfectly fits his delicate and fragile vocals. Any fans concerned that he might be jumping on the ubiquitous dance-pop bandwagon should be reassured by the fact that Richard X's sparse and subtle production is certainly more at the chillout end of the Balearic market than the David Guetta-esque floor-filling one, as evident on the lead single, "Jealousy", a brooding tale of unrequited love set against a backdrop of warm gentle synths and electro beats, the atmospheric '80s-tinged "Runaway", and the twinkling falsetto-led melancholy of closing number "Safe from Harm". Of course, this being a Will Young album, a heartfelt ballad is never more than a few electronic bleeps away, and while the schmaltzy "Lie Next to Me" could have been lifted from a Gareth Gates record, the dramatic Adele-esque piano-led "Outsider" is worthy of sitting alongside "Leave Right Now" and "All Time Love" in his canon of acoustic tearjerkers. Few would have predicted that the U.K.'s first Pop Idol would still be around a decade later, let alone making music as confident and self-assured as Echoes, which sounds like the album Young was born to make. J. O'Brien I know they hope to sell it but I don't think they've always been so kind in the past.

August 24, 201113 yr My initial thoughts after 3 listens. Standouts Jealousy, Losing Myself, Runaway, Safe from Harm. Love the rest apart from I Just Want a Lover that I just can't connect with at the moment.
