Echoes download at Amazon still at £3.99 should encourage more sales. :D

Maybe because it's bank holiday today?

How is Echoes holding up now that RHCP album is out? Is Echoes now no 2 on itunes albums?

I have made several trips out in my car alone lately just to pump up the volume and sing along  Everyone keeps wondering why I have to keep popping out  :yahoo:

Is that because youre singing is so off key that you would send all the dogs in the neighbourhood howling or are you protecting your collection of crystal glass  :P

I've just finished giving the album a first proper listen, I think some of it is utterly brilliant! Definitely rivals Let It Go as his best album for me. So a very quick, slapdash review from me.

Overall, I adore the album, but what surprises me the most is the lack of "obvious single" material, usually on a Will Young album you're pretty sure as to what will be the next single. This only goes to show that he's not worrying about that sort of stuff any more, and IMO good on him. But the most obvious 2nd single would have to be Come On, but I'd love to put a vote in for Safe From Harm, I adore that song.

Well done Will, genuinely a fantastic album from a very underrated artist.

Thanks RMD for your views on the album. :D

Another vote for Come On then. I love Safe from Harm too but don't think it will be a single.

Music week

Former reality TV winners lead albums

09:16 | Tuesday August 30, 2011

By Alan Jones

Nearly 40 years after Scottish schoolboy Neil Reid became the first TV talent show contestant to top the chart reality bites particularly hard this week with 2002 Pop Idol winner Will Young and 2009 X Factor champ Joe McElderry debuting at one and two on the UK artists albums chart.

Young’s co-wrote all but one track on his sixth album Echoes, which arrives at number one on sales of 65,773 copies. It is his third number one, following debut From Now On, which opened at the summit in 2002 on sales of 187,350, and follow-up Friday’s Child, which sold 201,900 copies to reach pole position the following year. Young’s most recent studio album, Let It Go, debuted and peaked at number two in 2008, with first week sales of 70,806, while his subsequent compilation, The Hits, debuted and peaked at number nine in 2009, with first week sales of 55,967. 2005 album Keep On also opened at number two on sales of 107,318, so Echoes actually has the lowest first week sale of any studio album by Young. Looking up instead of down, he is the first male reality TV star to score a hat-trick of number one albums, although Cheryl Cole has had two as part of Girls Aloud and two solo.

Informed more by his success in a second reality show, Popstar To Operastar, Joe McElderry’s Classic debuts at number two, on sales of 35,609. It arrives only 10 months after his more pop-slanted debut Wide Awake entered and peaked at number three, with first week sales of 39,405.

The Young/McElderry double whammy also denies Adele’s 21 the opportunity of extending its already record introductory run in the top two to 31 weeks. Slipping 2-3 (35,236 sales), 21 has also now sold more copies in America than in the UK for the first time – 3,061,539 there and 2,939,848 here.

After plummeting to a 692 week low of 1,482,414 last week, album sales are up 13.88% week-on-week at 1,688,221 – 7.47% below same week 2010 sales of 1,824,479.

Reality bites particularly hard this week with 2002 Pop Idol winner Will Young and 2009 X Factor victor Joe McElderry debuting at one and two on the UK artist albums chart, while the singles chart crown goes to McElderry’s runner-up Olly Murs.

Young’s sixth album Echoes debuts at the top on sales of 65,773 copies as its first singe Jealously enters the singles chart at five. It is his third number one, following debut From Now On and follow-up Friday’s Child.

The Young/McElderry double whammy denies Adele’s 21 the opportunity of extending its already record introductory run in the top two to 31 weeks as it slips to three.

In a very busy week for debuts, Wretch 32's new album Black And White debuts at number four (24,724 sales).

Barbra Streisand racks up her 30th chart entry with What Matters Most (number seven, 15,610 sales), a collection of new recordings of the songs of Alan and Marilyn Bergman.

Hard-Fi topped the chart with their first two albums, 2005’s Stars Of CCTV and 2007’s Once Upon A Time In The West but their third, Killer Sounds, opens at number nine (11,766 sales).

The last new arrival in the Top 40 is The R.E.D. Album by rapper Game, which provides his fourth straight Top 40 success, debuting at number 14 (10,148 sales).

There are also Top 10 debuts for Calvin Harris’ Feel So Close (number two, 87,846 sales), and Will Young’s Jealousy (number five, 53,224 sales).

There are also Top 10 debuts for Calvin Harris’ Feel So Close (number two, 87,846 sales) and Will Young’s Jealousy (number five, 53,224 sales). Feel So Close is the second single from Harris’ second, still untitled, album, following Kelis collaboration Bounce, which also reached number two. It is his 10th hit in all, his seventh to reach the Top 10. Jealousy is Will Young’s 15th hit, his 11th Top 10 entry and his highest charting since All Time Love reached number three in 2006.

Overall singles sales improve by 7.24% week-on-week to 3,121,115 – 19.31% above same week 2010 sales of 2,616,067.

Thanks RMD, i see so many single potentials for singles that i just can't call it, but if i could swing it i would have 'I just want a lover' It's just gorgeous. Runway seems to be a fav around the net and Silent valentine too, I'm hoping we get four singles this time.

Ooh..fab Picture..

Press Release Source: XIX Entertainment On Wednesday 31 August 2011, 2:09

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire -08/30/11)- This weekend hailed Will Young's triumphant return to the UK Charts as his latest album, Echoes, rocketed straight to No.1 in the UK Album Charts.   Managed by Simon Fuller at XIX Entertainment, Will Young has become one of the UK's most popular singer songwriters of the last ten years.   Since his first hit single 'Evergreen' became the fastest selling single in UK chart history (a record that still stands), Will Young has sold many millions of singles and albums, has won numerous music awards, has staged sell out concert tours, as well as starring alongside Dame Jude Dench and Bob Hoskins in the Oscar nominated feature Film 'Mrs Henderson Presents'.   Will remains today one of the UK's best loved and most popular male singers.

Will Young's manager, Simon Fuller of XIX Entertainment, comments:

"It is wonderful to see Will Young with the number one album in the UK again, after 10 years of remarkable and consistent success.   We all knew of Will's incredible vocal talents, however he has also now established himself as a consummate song writer and has become one of Britain's all time most successful male singer/songwriter's.   It has been an inspiring journey."

Released on August 22 2011, Echoes entered the UK album charts at No.1 on Sunday 29 August.   The album includes the now released single, Jealousy, and brilliantly showcases Young's deft lyricism and sensitive vocals, for which is now renowned.   Already a favourite for album of the year, make sure your next album is Echoes.

Simon Fuller is one of the most dynamic and influential men in the entertainment business.   Champion creator of the TV shows that define our generation and sculpt the future of our entertainment industry, Fuller's track record in music has made him the most significant British manager of all time.

Ooh, that's good Sunday, sounds like SF is very proud of him! :D
