The new Will Young album, Echoes, is the LP of a man at the top of his game, says Gary Vincent.

I’ve really enjoyed all the previous Will Young albums - so when I noticed that most music critics included the phrase ‘I’m not really a fan of his music but this is a fine album’ in their reviews, I just knew I was going to enjoy this one as well.

 

Indeed it is a 'fine album'! No fillers here, and much of it is funk-lite - not unlike many of the recent George Michael singles.

 

The opener is the first single, Jealousy, which must rate as one of the tracks of the year. It’s followed by a stomper of a song called Come On, and from there one quality song follows another.

 

There’s the haunting ballad, Outsider, the very George Michael-ish, Personal Thunder, the funky Good Things and Safe From Harm which could so easily have been an up to date Bronski Beat song.

 

This guy is at the top of his game. Echoes has deservedly become a number one album and should easily make the critics top ten albums of the year… that’s how much he’s won them over!

I know makes me swell with pride never mind Will :dance:

I loved reading that corker Sunday :w00t: how brilliant is that!

For me Echoes is his best album to date, but I for one cannot see why some could not see how much talent he has when speaking of his back catalogue :blink:

it just baffles me, im delighted for Will, he must be so proud and happy that FINALLY he has some proper critic recognition :w00t:

I sure Will will be nominated at the Brits next year again, but it's the critical acclaim he's been getting for Echoes that puts him in with his biggest chance yet of winning IMO. Maybe even a performance which would be the icing on the cake.

Here's hoping Marguerite. It certainly would be a great way for him to celebrate 10 years as a recording artist as the Brits is usually around the Pop Idol winning date. Would love him to get a nod in the best album category. Didn't he make the list with Friday's Child?

Too right! I watched it last week and laughed when they ran out of Olly videos by quarter to the hour of the supposed hour show! :lol:
