How does the chart work?

 

 

The Vodafone Big Top 40 Show is powered by iTunes, but what does that actually mean?

 

Well, it means that every time you click to download a song from iTunes, Apple track your purchase and use it to produce a list of the fastest selling songs of the moment.

 

We use this data to build the Vodafone Big Top 40 and because this data is live and compiled in real-time, it means that the Big Top 40 chart is always changing and updating right up until the moment when we lock down the top 10 at 6pm, during the show on a Sunday evening.

 

Chart positions 40 to 11 are compiled using a mix of iTunes sales data and radio airplay (taking in to account the playlists of the many different stations which The Vodafone Big Top 40 Show broadcasts on).  The top ten songs is purely complied from live iTunes sales data.  This means that while the show is on air, you can download your favourite songs and influence the chart.

 

This means that we could play a song and by the time we get to 6pm, when we lockdown the new chart it could have climbed in to the top ten and we'll even play it twice.

 

You can always see what the hottest songs of the moment are by checking out the "Live iTunes Top 10" box on our homepage.

Just saw the advert on C4 + 1 it's different than the one we saw a couple of days ago this one is done by tesco and shows some of the jealousy video and some parts from the making of the video :dance:

Although play has Echoes at 1 on the hot new release chart and Joe at 4

on the pre order chart they have Echoes at 23 and Joe at 15
