Songs For Japan: 38-Track Album Released

And a ‘super-gig’ is being planned for Wembley…

The Songs For Japan album is now available to download with all proceeds going to help victims of Japan’s earthquake and tsunami.

It includes current hits like Katy Perry’s Firework and Eminem’s Love The Way You Lie alongside classics such as Imagine by John Lennon and Walk On by U2. The compilation features 38 tracks in all, from artists as varied as Cee Lo Green, Enya, Bob Dylan and Kings Of Leon.

The Sun reports that a star-studded benefit concert is also being planned and could take place as soon as next month. Rival record labels Sony and Universal, home to Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Rihanna and many others, are said to be teaming up with concert promoters Live Nation to hold a ‘super-gig’ at Wembley Arena.

A source said they hoped the event would attract A-list artists from all genres. “The super-gig will be the biggest concert in years and a huge global spectacle,” they explained. “No names have been confirmed yet but the organisers are expecting a massive response from acts of all eras. They're hoping the TV audience numbers will break records.”

Woah! Seriously!? :o

Also, some of the songs on there are remixes. Like I'm pretty sure I read that the version of Born This Way that will be on the album will be a remix.

Anyway, it's a nice track-list. I like how the songs are all kind of have a nice message, if you know what I mean.

Even looking at the titles of the songs, it's like they're speaking to the citizens of Japan, like It's OK by Cee-Lo Green, Make You Feel My Love by Adele, Pray by Justin Bieber, Use Somebody by Kings of Leon, When Love Takes Over by David Guetta, Like I Love You by Justin Timberlake, One Tribe by the BEPs, Whenever, Wherever by Shakira, and so on.

Some of them are a bit WTF though, like Love the Way You Lie...

Chart-wize, some of the songs might climb a bit.

The super-gig sounds exciting!

Some of the songs are relevant however some songs were put on there just to fill it up with the best and biggest artists.

Its avaialable only on download sites (just iTunes?), so probably wont make a big impact will it? #2 on Itunes, and #1 in US.

i love how its #1 in japan as well :D

this could knock Adele off number 1 in the Itunes album chart for the first time in 9 weeks :o

it will be number 1 compilation anyway, glad its selling well so far

Edit: oh its NOT available to buy in shops?

This will only chart on the compilations chart but should make a significant entry on the combined albums chart Music Week publishes.

I find it hilarious an album #1 on every other iTunes (except Denmark) is *still* being stopped by the 21 juggernaut

In other news 21 has spent a 9th week at #1 on the Digital Albums chart.

No it's only available to buy on iTunes iirc. I read an article about this earlier in the week. It's a nice gesture and there are some great songs on this compilation. Japan really do need all the help they can get after all that devestation. :(
