Posted March 30, 201114 yr Not sure if this has been mentioned on this site before, but Top of the Pops is being re-run on BBC4 from next Thursday, in it's old time slot of 7:30. They are starting with a show from April 1976 and showing them sequentially for at least a year!
March 30, 201114 yr Does that mean they're doing every week of 1976/77 or a different year each week? They'd have 43 different years to choose from so I hope they do that.

March 30, 201114 yr I love the idea of them showing a new episode every week in the spiritual home, but I'd rather they did them from different years each week. I do have loads of 90s ones on DVD already but.. meh would be nice to have them in stereo. 1976 doesn't appeal to me.
March 30, 201114 yr There's actually a Top Of The Pops night on Friday on BBC4 too, but it's still about 1976.
March 30, 201114 yr They chose 1976, because that's when the show reached it's peak...although all those 1976 shows have already been re-run on Eins Festival the German channel & there are gaps because there are a whole bunch missing. Including the one in November 1976, where the winner of the competition to name the new dancers, who were given the name "Legs & Co" of course. So, if they run the remaining ones from 76 in order, on the week they were broadcasted...it will be impossible to do. Most of the missing ones from 1976, were the ones introduced by Jimmy Savile & Dave Lee Travis. There is also one from September 76, where David Hamilton made a gaff (when his drink was spiked)...David introduced "Rod Stewart & The Killing Of Georgie Fame"...big mistake & don't expect to see that one! Plus they have not got 43 years to choose from...Complete editions from 1964 - 67 are wiped & there are only a couple from 1968 remaining & barely any from 1969. Many from 1970 - 75 are also missing i.e. junked & you'd have to go to 1978 - 2007 for a complete run, with none missing. The Christmas editions from 1972 onwards exist. Though these were made throughout the 70s without a studio audience & any performances by Mr Gary Glitter, have been cut out.
March 30, 201114 yr The Boxing Day 1967 edition, two from 1968 and one from 1969 still exists in full although two of them have mute presenter links and one has a presenter link missing due to a power cut. Every edition since September 15th 1977 exists in all its glory.
April 3, 201114 yr From Digital Spy... BBC Four saw its audience rocket last night as Top of the Pops made a triumphant return to primetime, early overnight data indicates.
