Posted March 31, 201114 yr Row over Smiley Culture inquiry (UKPA) – 1 hour ago A meeting between police chiefs descended into chaos as family and friends of a reggae star angrily accused officers of failing to explain his "bizarre" death. Singer Smiley Culture died of a single stab wound through the heart after four Metropolitan Police officers executed a search warrant at his Surrey home. As the death was raised at a Metropolitan Police Authority meeting, campaigners leapt to their feet, screaming "murderers". Asher Seator, his best friend, wept as he called on officers to launch a full inquiry. "No one is doing anything," he told a panel sitting at City Hall, in central London. "What are you investigating?" MPA member Cindy Butts was reduced to tears by the protest. She said: "It has been 30 years since the Brixton riots and so much has changed ... (but) we have so much to do." The Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an investigation into the death. Campaigners had been told the singer, whose real name was David Emmanuel, stabbed himself while making a cup of tea despite officers still being in his home. The 48-year-old found fame and appeared on Top of the Pops in the 1980s with a string of hits including Cockney Translation. Smiley Culture's 1984 hit single Police Officer was an autobiographical song of how he was caught in possession of cannabis but let off when the officer recognised him as a reggae artist. Speaking about the hit, he told the Guardian last year: "My hit single Police Officer was a true story - the police used to take my weed. It was better than being arrested and I made that into a hit." Copyright © 2011 The Press Association. All rights reserved. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- People are steadily becoming more and more angry, and quite rightly so... This is yet another example of a black man "mysteriously" dying under the supposed supervision of the Police.... This is bringing up the dark days of the 70s and early 80s, and also the death of Stephen Lawrence too.... In the early 1990s it was exposed by a Government inquiry that the Police force "institutionally racist", well, the question is, what's fundamentally changed in the last 20 years... From what's just gone down here with regards to Smiley, not a whole hell of a lot, IMO..... The "official story" just does not add up... The Police supposedly raid Smiley's home suspecting he is in possession of drugs... We are then supposed to believe that the Police just "let" Smiley go off into another room to "make a cup of tea"... Presumably while they're all standing around in their riot gear and wondering what's taking Smiley so long with the pot of tea and the plate of choccie biccies, Smiley stabs himself in the heart, and being the expert of anatomy that he must be, manages to get it with one shot... I mean, no reports of "hesitation wounds" here either (which is common when people supposedly commit suicide by stabbing themselves or slashing their wrists...). So, seriously, what the f**k is going on..? Or is this just going to be written off as another "mysterious death" of a black man....? No Justice, No Peace.....
March 31, 201114 yr it's very clear he didn't kill yourself, but i'm still confused at exactly what went on, as much as one dislikes the police, i can't see them going to his flat and killing him and covering it up as a suicide. and again if he was to kill himself why did he do it while the police came round? and what sort of police would leave a suspect on his own to go and make tea, very random isnt it. definatly something fishy going on.

TBH though, they just make themselves look like incompetent idiots by trying to push this story... Yeah, raid a guy's house looking for drugs, then let him go off on his own into another room... Errr, where anyone with half a brain might actually think "hey, he might disposing of evidence in there....". Pretty sure letting suspects go off into other rooms on their own while conducting a search isn't the standard procedure.... So, killers or incompetent morons.... Either way, they shouldn't even be in the job....
April 1, 201114 yr Everything about his death when it was announced seemed strange and this does stink of a cover up. Confidence in the police lowers every day and you can't be one bit surprised that it does...
April 2, 201114 yr He stabbed himself when confronted by the prospect of arrest. END OF STORY. Think about it Scott and others, how many times do cops STAB a suspect to death? Can't recall a single case in my 52 years. Maybe beat them in cells or shoot them but not stab them! Maybe he had no gun so no alternative but to stab himself. Just another excuse to have a go at our brave hard-working police officers. Edited April 2, 201114 yr by Common Sense
April 2, 201114 yr and again if he was to kill himself why did he do it while the police came round? Erm, hardly rocket science that, to evade arrest!!!
April 2, 201114 yr Erm, hardly rocket science that, to evade arrest!!! yes but killing yourself to evade being arrested is a bit extreme. killings oneself takes alot of thought, if he was suicidal he would have already killed himself.
April 2, 201114 yr yes but killing yourself to evade being arrested is a bit extreme. killings oneself takes alot of thought, if he was suicidal he would have already killed himself. Okay yes I agree but the cops stabbing him to death is even more odd don't you think? Name me one case EVER where the cops have stabbed a suspect to death!! I fully agree that the cops were at fault though in letting him go in to another room to make tea. What if he'd concealed a semi-automatic in the tea-caddy? Edited April 2, 201114 yr by Common Sense
April 2, 201114 yr and what sort of police would leave a suspect on his own to go and make tea, very random isnt it. END OF STORY...except it isn't. There's clearly a huge story prvity to an audience of a dead man and several police officers.

Just another excuse to have a go at our brave hard-working police officers. No, Chris, it's NOT end of story... Are you some sort of complete idiot....? The Police have SERIOUS questions to answer and are so far refusing to answer them and are showing their usual absolute f**king contempt for the family of Smiley and for the wider community, if they've nothing to hide, then tell people EXACTLY what went down, because frankly, the "official story" is utter bollocks.... This is the reason why people hate/distrust/are suspicious of, the Police, when things like this happen, they close ranks, refuse to explain sh"t that went down and just generally treat us all like idiots, and particularly treat the families of people who die in these circumstances rather disgracefully... When this sort of thing happens and the Police don't explain themselves, then I find it incredibly hard to feel sympathy for them when they're on the receiving end of an angry mob....

What about my point about stabbing then? Do you think they stabbed him to death? Why not shoot him and plant a gun and saay he fired first? I have never heard of cops stabbing a suspect but you conveniently didn't answer that point Scott! Edited April 3, 201114 yr by Common Sense

I have never heard of cops stabbing a suspect but you conveniently didn't answer that point Scott! For goodness sake, must you be a COMPLETE moron all the time? The police can be held to account for being at fault even if they didn't kill him you know - the big issue here is why they let him into another room to begin with. THAT'S what's strange about this case.

April 4, 201114 yr Author I agree. Yes it is. I have read in the media that some people do doubt that he even killed himself though. By "some people", that would be Smiley's family.. And while the police remain tight-lipped and continue to put across this ridiculous excuse for what happened, then suspicion will remain.....
April 4, 201114 yr Author I think he was a drug addict So f**king what?? That's a reason to cover up his death is it...? Never said the guy was a saint, but the family deserve proper answers, simple as.....
April 4, 201114 yr I didnt say he deserved to die did I hunrags? That was the insinuation, either that or you were just posting a pointless side-comment.
