I'm liking the sound of Alcatraz and all these fairytale themed dramas sound interesting. There's quite a few shows I am waiting for actually! Seems the networks are finally trying to air more supernatural/science-fiction stuff. I'm hoping Ringer gets picked up just to see Sarah Michelle Gellar back on tv again. She plays a woman on the run who takes the identity of her twin sister who is also in trouble with the same organisation. I can't see CBS going for it unless she's actually an undercover cop for NCIS or something but it sounds different.

Oooh also Poe. I love his work and I don't really imagine Chris Egan in the role at all tbh. I don't even think he's a good actor :/ I can see what seems like a promising premise on paper being $h!t. Hallejulah sounds awesome. Are they keeping the whole Greek chorus element does anybody know? I read a lot of articles mentioning it but any as of late seem to have not included it.

Finally Secret Circle on The CW, merely because it's from the creators of The Vampire Diaries and the woman who wrote the book series too, so I'm hoping for good things. TVD is one of those rare shows that continues to exceed itself and the fact it fits between Twilight and True Blood but yet maintains its own identity is also what I like about it.

There's probably more and I'm rambling but I'm excited about ACTUAL TV shows I may watch compared with the awful freshmen class of this season where nothing appealed to me at all.

And I agree that we need more empowered females back on TV and not remake-women! They need to lure Kirsten Bell back to a new television series imo.

Looking forward to Alcatraz, Terra Nova & hopefully Secret Circle. With TN & Alcatraz, don't Fox then just have room for a new 30min comedy? Unless they extend, hold back a Gordon Ramsey show or XF happens to be only two hours a week (which I don't see happening)?

Terra Nova is only a four part series though (I think?). They could air it when a new show's on hiatus. Dunno what they're going to do with it, I'd guess the execs are pretty bummed production has slowed down.

I like the sound of Ringer and the Secret Circle.

Love VD so I'll probably like SC too.

I agree about Kristin Bell. She belongs on television personally. I haven't been fond of her movie career at all.

Nah, they have room for mid season shows and back up options. I think Lie To Me might get a renewal as emergency filler and either Locke & Key and/or the Bones spin off.

The upfronts for Fox shall be very interesting.

I thought it was a full season show  Four parter would make everything so much easier though.

Fox's schedule is the most unpredictable of the big networks

Alcatraz is apparently not testing too well... full report on Deadline from the first several days of pilot test screenings:

ABC

With only one freshman drama, Body of Proof, having a shot at returning next season, ABC is rumored to pick up as many as 6-7 new hourlong series. And word is the network's brass like so many of their pilots, they may have a hard time narrowing down their choices to 6-7. Of the drama pilots screened today, only procedural PARTNERS, which had been cold for awhile, didn't do well. Two pilots that had been garnering mixed early reaction, Marc Cherry's HALLELUJAH and the Count of Monte Cristo-inspired soap REVENGE both did better today, with Hallelujah still drawing mixed reaction in some rooms but also getting strong approval in others. Some are suggesting it may be retooled for midseason. The Phillip Noyce-directed Revenge got solid feedback though some question the long-term prospect of the central revenge storyline. Paranormal Activity-style thriller THE RIVER, helmed by Jaume Collet-Serra, was liked by most who call it "cool". On the comedy side, DON'T TRUST THE BITCH IN APT. 23 was a hit, described as being laugh out loud funny (the title will be changed however). Two years after he directed the pilot for Modern Family, Apt. 23 helmer Jason Winer has done it again. And WORK IT, the cross-dressing comedy that had been getting positive buzz in the past few days, did well today too.

The UNTITLED TIM ALLEN multicamera comedy will not screen until Monday, but its buzz is so strong that it is considered a frontrunner, with some even speculating that ABC may use it to launch another comedy block, possibly on Tuesday. Also slated to screen next week are 2 drama pilots with solid early buzz, the magical tale ONCE UPON A TIME (described as Lost in tone and Pushing Daisies in look) and 1960s airline soap PAN AM, as well as DC drama GEORGETOWN that has been awfully quiet. Here is a recap of the rest of ABC's pilots that have screened so far:

GOOD CHRISTIAN BITCHES - red hot (title will be changed)

CHARLIE'S ANGELS - a lock

IDENTITY - hot

POE - strong

Shonda Rhimes' SCANDAL - despite mixed reaction in some rooms, continues to be in serious contention.

GRACE - not perfect, but amazing dance sequences and strong female appeal make it a contender for a Dancing With the Stars companion.

SUBURGATORY and SMOTHERED - both solid, with Suburgatory's buzz a bit stronger

BAD MOM - Everyone loves Jenna Elfman in this, mixed on the rest.

MAN UP - mixed

MY FREAKIN' FAMILY, OTHER PEOPLE'S KIDS - don't look good.

FOX

THE NEW GIRL screened very well and, along with FAMILY ALBUM, is considered a lock on the comedy side, with I HATE MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER close behind. Medical drama WEEKENDS AT BELLEVUE continues to gain momentum for a pickup, with the the Ethan Hawke-starring spy drama EXIT STRATEGY also strong. Graphic novel adaptation LOCKE & KEY impressed today with the way it was shot but there are questions about its potential as a series. The project was originally developed at DreamWorks as a feature, maybe that was the way to go. There is no final word on Locke & Key or ALCATRAZ but their chances are said to be 50/50. Not looking good for TAGGED or COUNCIL OF DADS.

CBS

TWO BROKE GIRLS screened well today as it continues to generate strong buzz on the comedy side along with HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN. After humble beginnings, UNTITLED PETER KNIGHT keeps rising steadily thanks to a great testing, with THE ASSISTANTS faring OK in its recent screening, while VINCE UNCENSORED is pretty much written off and HOME GAME fading.

On the drama side, the James Mangold-directed ROOKIES appears a shoe-in, with PERSON OF INTEREST continuing to gain momentum and P.I. show HAIL MARY still strong. Procedural THE REMEMBERER had a solid screening to remain in contention, while the re-cut UNTITLED SUSANNAH GRANT medical drama will screen on Monday but most are already betting on it going to series. RINGER, which screened early, has been pretty quiet, while THE DOCTOR doesn't look very good at the moment.

NBC

Not much new information from this year's Fort Knox, which has been in lockdown under orders from Bob Greenblatt, with SMASH and PRIME SUSPECT as prime drama contenders alongside rising REM. While not locks, PLAYBOY and WONDER WOMAN remain in contention, followed on the buzz meter by another pair, Stephen Gaghan's METRO and the fantastical GRIMM. A MANN's WORLD and Western RECONSTRUCTION have an outside chance, while 17th PRECINCT is pretty much done.

On the comedy side, the star-studded EMILY SPIVEY pilot (starring Christina Applegate) has finally been delivered and we're awaiting word on how it has been received. (Not that that's relevant as this pilot would have to be a disaster not to go.) From the others, the two chick comedies, UNTITLED WHITNEY CUMMINGS and Chelsea Handler's ARE YOU THERE VODKA? still look good, along with BENT, UNTITLED DAN GOOR and UNTITLED KARI LIZER, while word is that LOVELIVES, BRAVE NEW WORLD and MY LIFE AS AN EXPERIMENT don't look that good.

CW

In today's screening, Kevin Williamson's pilot THE SECRET CIRCLE lived up to the hype and now firmly holds the frontrunner position with medical drama HART OF DIXIE. HEAVENLY and procedural COOPER & STONE are still behind, followed by zombie drama AWAKENING and DANNI LOWINSKI, with the latter not as bad as many think but probably not good enough to make the cut to series.

Makes interesting reading. The stuff I'd read about Good Christian Bitches having a so-so script contradicts that report on the 'red hot' reactions to the pilot but it's all good, it's definitely one of the ones I'm most looking forward to.

Fox really only has a couple of slots in the Fall schedule for drama pilots. I expect Weekends at Bellevue and Exit Strategy will make it with Locke & Key being saved for midseason. The Finder tested well too though apparently so I don't know.

After renewing Fringe Fox doesn't have any space  Unless they are going for 3hrs prime time instead of 2 a couple of nights a week they have the most irritatingly complex schedule to work out.

With Emily being pregnant, Bones can't air it's 7th season as normal (Unless Hart writes it in, and I think the fans would actually hunt him down and slaughter him if he did) which makes things even more complex. Bones might end up with a very very very late Premier or a Sept start with 4 eps then the next new ep in Jan allowing a 13ep series to sneak in.

"Fox has made three new series pickups for next year. JJ Abrams mystery Alcatraz, Bones spinoff The Finder and comedy The New Girl starring Zooey Deschanel. I’m not sure there will be any officially official announcements about them before next Monday’s upfront, but if there are, Bill will post them.

It looks like The Finder got a 13 episode pickup, not sure about the other two yet.

Update: Fox has also ordered comedy I Hate My Teenage Daughter to series." (Via Tvbythenumbers)

I knew Fox couldn't resist Alcatraz. Zooey!

Wow!!! The Finder will be used to help Bones work around Emily's pregnancy no doubt. And major :w00t: at both of the sisters Deschannel being on Fox

Oh my god... Fox's choices are really BAFFLING. I can't believe they've ditched Weekends at Bellevue. I guess they only wanted one new procedural and The Finder has more chance at getting an audience since it's a spin-off of a popular show. Seems like a very lazy thing to do though and it's not like Alcatraz is guaranteed an audience since it's a mythological procedural in the vain of Fringe.

NBC has cancelled Law & Order: LA and renewed Harry's Law apparently. A bit surprising since word was that Harry's Law would be renewed so that they didn't have to pick up Wonder Woman (both created by David E Kelley).

There is still a chance for Weekends at Bellevue apparently.

After all Fox just killed everything it hadn't renewed.

NBC have picked up Smash (the Broadway-themed musical starring Debra Messing), Prime Suspect, the as-yet-untitled Whitney Cummings comedy pilot (not sure what that's about to be honest), and the untitled Christina Applegate sitcom.

Debra Messing back on the peacock can only be a good thing as far as I am concerned [Will & Grace ]

Christina Applegate back on TV is also a very good thing.

The two untitled NBC comedies now have titles. Full list of pick-ups so far:

FOX

Alcatraz (drama series starring Jorge Garcia)

Finder (drama series starring Geoff Stults & Saffron Burrows)

I Hate My Teenage Daughter (half-hour comedy starring Jamie Pressly)

The New Girl (half-hour comedy starring Zooey Deschanel)

NBC

Awake (formerly REM) (drama series starring Jason Isaacs)

Grimm

Prime Suspect (drama series starring Maria Bello)

Smash (drama series starring Debra Messing)

The Playboy Club (drama series starring Eddie Cibrian & Amber Heard)

Up All Night (half-hour comedy starring Christina Applegate & Will Arnett)

Whitney (half-hour comedy starring Whitney Cummings)

I'll update it as more pick-ups come in just so everything's in one place... what's surprising is that there's a lot of female-skewing viewing there. FOX apparently wants to devote two nights to female-centred TV to tie in with X Factor. Six of those eight picks up are either targeting women or starring them in the lead role. Last year was really male-centric by comparison.
