Will Young has landed a starring role in a Radio 4 drama about an infamous 18th century hoax which became the talk of the nation. The singer has turned to acting after a string of chart-topping hits, making his debut in the film Mrs Henderson Presents.

 

He will now star in his first radio play, Mary Toft's Rabbit Tale, to be broadcast later this month, and said of the role: "I was lucky enough to have a great group of people behind and in front of the microphone as well as a wonderful story and script to have fun with."

 

Will plays Joshua, the husband of Toft (Anna Madeley) who, in 1726, managed to convince doctors that she had given birth to a succession of live rabbits.

 

The mother-of-three's feats were relayed to King George I, whose personal anatomist was convinced she was telling the truth until she confessed it was a hoax.

 

Rupert Graves plays a local Surrey surgeon, John Howard, who claimed to have delivered some of the rabbits but was part of the deception.

 

Celia Wolff, who directed the drama, to be aired on April 22, said: "He approached his first radio role with great enthusiasm, boundless energy and most importantly true professionalism, learning a few tricks of the trade along the way."

I used to love eating my mum's rabbit pie when I was a child, can't imagine people believing that a woman had given birth to some though. :wacko: :lol: Mind you, it was way back in 1726, they were'nt taking marjiuana so they must have been using something else. :lol:

So now we know. There have been loads of hoaxes over the years - the fairies at the bottom of the garden being one of the most famous. People wanted their 15 minutes of fame even back then :lol:
