Posted April 9, 201114 yr Just watched a documentary with Jimmy Page, the guitarist from U2 and an American guy. They are all, of course great guitarists though I hardly know anything about any of them OK Jimmy is a legend from the Yardbirds, then Led Zep In a way they had one thing in common.... getting great sounds out of their guitar by the use of technology .. pick ups... amps... a kind of black art of technology. Once they mastered these machines and gizmos then they become powerful wizards on stage ! Jimmy must take a lot of credit for the great sound the Yardbirds had way back when and of course he became a legend with Zep I think he was always big into the occult too... ( wonder, was he ever given the title... The Prince of Darkness ? or a similar nickname ? ) Hang on Ozzie got that title, I wonder if Jimmy had some other nick name ? . June 20, 201114 yr I wonder if Jimmy had some other nick name ? Yeah, "Led Wallet" - because of his miserliness. And btw there were three guitarists in The Yardbirds (of course not at the same time). There was Eric Clapton, but he quit when he thought the band became too poppy. Jeff Beck was the next guitarist. Page was in The Yardbirds for quite a short period (not to mention that he played bass guitar at first) and I wouldn't describe him as the guy who was responsible for 'the sound' of this band.
June 27, 201113 yr ^^^ I definitely prefer Page's work with Zeppelin than with The Yardbirds (as good as they where).
June 27, 201113 yr I prefer his Yardbirds stuff, and his 60s session work (he actually played on The Kinks - All Day And All Of The Night and The Who - Can't Explain among many others).
