April 10, 201114 yr Author http://australian-charts.com/forum.asp Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts (Thanks to Gavin Ryan) Singles Snoop Dogg claims his second solo ARIA No.1 Single and third No.1 appearance, as his latest track "Sweat" takes the step up to the top of our charts, knocking Jennifer Lopez and her Pitbull down to No.2 after three weeks at the top, matching the three weeks her first No.1 achieved back in 1999. So if Snoop wants a future third No.1 single, he should stick to single-word five-letter titles, as his first No.1 was "Signs" back in May 2005, and he appeared as guest vocalist on last years No.1 “California Gurls” by Katy Perry (June to July 2010). “Sweat” becomes the 979th No.1 single in Australia (1940 to 2011), and Snoop is the first male act since the second week of the year to claim a No.1 (Guy Sebastian 10-Jan was the last male solo act to hit No.1), plus he is the first act for Capitol Records since the Katy Perry song mentioned above, to hit the No.1 spot, giving Capitol their 54th No.1 here in Australia. Plus it’s the first time that the word ‘Sweat’ has appeared at the top of our charts, and the Felix sample infused throughout the song finally makes it to No.1, plus it’s the first time since 1997 that a sampled song has taken over from a sampled song. J Lo’s “On the Floor” features the “Lambada”, and Snoop Dogg features “Don’t You Want me” by Felix, and back in 1997 Puff Daddy’s “I’ll Be Missing You” (featuring The Police’s “Every Breath you Take”) was taken over by Will Smith’s “Men in Black” which featured the late 1982 song “Forget me Nots” by Patrice Rushen. Jessie J spent two weeks at No.2, now she is spending a second week at No.3 with "Price Tag", but landing right behind her at No.4 and scoring their highest charting and first SOLO Top 10 entry (previously they were up here as a part of David Guetta’s track “Gettin’ Over You” {HP5, June 2010}) as "Party Rock Anthem" leaps eight places to No.4 this week. "Just Can't Get Enough" for The Black Eyed Peas and "Coming Home" for Diddy and Dirty Money hold at No.5 and No.6 respectively, and last weeks No.7 and No.8 swap places this week, with Lupe Fiasco's "The Show Goes On" back up to No.7 and Lady GaGa's "Born This Way" re-continuing it's one-place-a-week trajectory, now down to No.8. Chris Brown's "Beautiful People" holds its No.9 position from last week, but dropping a massive six places within the Top 10 is the former No.1 "S&M" for Rihanna, down to No.10 this week. NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Getting closer to the Top 10 each week is Dr Dre and Eminem's "I Need a Doctor", which this week inches up a place to a new peak of No.12, but right behind them is Flo Rida who scores his eleventh consecutive Top 20 hit as his debut from last week "Who Dat Girl" jumps sixteen places to No.13 this week. But scoring the biggest leap of the week is Jay Sean and his new track "Hit the Lights", which zooms up thirty places to No.18 in its second week in the Top 100. With the release of the video clip for Katy Perry’s “E.T.” it helps the single to rebound fourteen places to No.19 this week. Last week Justin Bieber and Jayden Smith's "Never Say Never" hit a new peak of No.36, this week though they make a huge stride of fourteen places to jump to No.22. Adele breaks into the Top 30 and Top 50 this week, firstly the Top 30, as "Rolling in the Deep" jumps fifteen places to No.25, her second current single "Someone Like You" leaps thirty-two places to enter the Top 50 at No.47. Wiz Khalifa is up nine places to No.29 with his debut single "Black and Yellow", and Alexis Jordan scores her second Top 40 entry as "Good Girl" is up three places to No.40. Marvin Priest re-enters the Top 50 at No.41 with "Own This Club", now in its third week inside the Top 50, it's up nineteen places from last week. And with local rapper Drapht claiming the new No.1 album in the country, it helps his former No.16 single "Rapunzel" to re-enter the Top 50 at No.38, up seventeen places from last week, plus also entering the Top 50 is the new single for Good Charlotte "Last Night", which is up to No.47 this week. The two Top 50 new entries this week are both by RnB acts who have extra help from guest vocalists. First up debuting at No.14 is the 12th chart appearance for Pitbull (this includes his guest vocalist appearances), "Give Me Something", which features Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Naver as guest appearances. It’s the second single lifted from his forthcoming fifth album “Planet Pit”. And coming in at No.32 is T-Pain feat Chris Brown with "Best Love Song". It’s T-Pain's 15th chart entry (includes guest vocals), and his first Top 50 appearance since the long-running (38 weeks) No.42 single “Take Your Shirt Off” from February 2010. Below Top 50: The Foo Fighters new album is out this coming week, and lead single "Rope" climbs to a new peak of No.59 this week, album sales should help it into the Top 50 next week. You Me at Six and Chiddy Bang climb eleven places to No.78 with their first ARIA Singles Chart entry "Rescue Me", and right behind them at No.79 is Neon Trees with "1983", up thirteen places this week. The Potbelleez enter at No.56 with their sixth chart entry "From the Music", taken from their forthcoming second album "Destination Now". The previous two singles from that album were “Hello” (HP-19, peak Sept 2010) and “Shake it” (No.51, Nov 2010). The third single from Mike Posner's "31 Minutes to Takeoff" debuts at No.60 entitled "Bow Chicka Wow Wow", whilst his two previous chart entries were "Cooler Than Me" (HP-4, peak Oct. 2010) and "Please Don't Go" (HP-51, Dec. 2010). The fifth single from Rihanna's "Loud" (TW-10) album debuts at No.61 entitled "California King Bed", and joins the albums other four singles which are all still charting, “What’s My Name” (TW-95), "Only Girl (in the World)" (TW-49), "Who's That Chick" (TW-39) and "S&M" (TW-10), and it becomes her 29th overall charting song. Final debut is the second chart entry for Jeremih, who debuted and peaked at No.37 in July 2009 with "Birthday Sex", and now enters at No.91 with "Down on Me" featuring 50 Cent as guest vocalist. It's taken from his second album "All About You". Albums Perth rapper Drapht becomes the first Australian Solo Rapper to score a No.1 album (the only two other local rap acts to hit the top were Bliss N' Eso and The Hilltop Hoods), as his fourth album "The Life of Riley" lands first week at the top of the ARIA Album Charts. His third album was his first entry to our Album charts, "Brothers Grimm" made it to No.64 in June of 2008. This new entry has also helped the albums lead single "Rapunzel" to re-enter the Top 50 at No.38 this week, whilst the upcoming second track is to "Sing it (The Life of Riley)". Bliss N’ Eso were the last Australian act to hit the top of our charts back in August 2010, so we’ve been without a local performed No.1 album for just under nine months, not that local acts didn’t try to reach the top (ala Cut Copy, The Waifs and Art vs. Science). “The Life of Riley” is the 629th No.1 album in Australia (1965-2011), and the fifth consecutive No.1 debut, plus with competition from The Foo Fighters and Andre Rieu, Gurrumul and possibly Ronan Keating next week, Drapht might be the fifth consecutive one-week-wonder too. “The Life of Riley” is the sixth album with ‘Life’ in it’s title, the last being The Fray with “How to Save a Life” (March 2007), and it’s the first appearance for a Riley at the top. Drapht becomes only the 16th Australian Male Solo Artist to achieve a No.1 album, the last act was Damien Leith back in August 2007 (true!!). It’s also been a while since we had a Male rap act at the top, and Eminem’s “Recovery” last appeared at No.1 back on the last week of August 2010, now “The Life of Riley” becomes the 174th album by a Solo Male artist. Drapht is also the 75th Australian Act to achieve a No.1 album, as I mentioned before Bliss N’ Eso were the last ones, and this is the 146th No.1 album by an Australian performer. k.d. Lang debuts at No.2 with her thirteenth studio album "Sing it Loud", and it instantly becomes her eighth Top 10 album, and if it doesn't climb any higher it will be her only No.2 album, as she's previously scored with three No.3 album; "Hymns of the 49th Parallel" (2004), "All You Can Eat" (1995) and "Ingenue" (1992), and two No.1 hits; "Watershed" in 2008 and her re-entering at No.18 collection "Recollection" (2010). She also re-enters at No.94 on the singles chart with her rendition of “Hallelujah”. Adele spends a third non-consecutive week at No.3, as "21" moves back up to it's original debut and peak position, plus she debuts at No.58 with her first album "19", it's first entry here in Australia. Last weeks No.1 debut "Femme Fatale" for Britney Spears falls to No.4 this week. “Glee: The Music Volume 5” had previously moved 1-2-3, but this week it break the cycle by dropping two places to No.5. Bruno Mars is at No.6 with "Doo-Wops and Hooligans", down one place, and the other big debut from last week, Radiohead's "The King of Limbs" is down five places to No.7 this week. Chris Brown's "F.A.M.E." is down two places to No.8, and also dropping two places are The Strokes with "Angles" at No.9 and Rihanna's "Loud" to No.10. Former Triple J Unearthed finalists Tim and Jean (Tim Ayre and Jean Capotorto) have been making music together for a few years in their Mandurah, WA bedroom, but now they enter at No.12 with their debut album, "Like What". NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: With Justin Bieber's new movie "Never Say Never" opening around the country, plus his end-of-month tour due soon, his album "My Worlds" jumps up nineteen places this week to No.15, whilst his other album "Never Say Never-The Remixes" is up nine places to No.30. With k.d. Lang in the country promoting her new album, her greatest hits package "Recollection" re-enters at No.18 this week. Celtic Thunder take another big stride up the ARIA Album Charts, as their latest set "Take Me Home" leaps twelve places to No.28. Pakistan born, but British based singer Rumer (born Sarah Joyce) drew inspiration from author Rumer Godden for her name. Nominated for two Brit Awards this past year for her debut album "Seasons of My Soul", it enters this week at No.35, and has peaked at No.3 in her homeland, No.2 in The Netherlands and appeared in the Top 10 in Norway and Belgium. Lead single was "Slow" (UK HP-16) from mid 2010, followed by "Aretha", and current lead track is "Goodbye Girl". The Kills have never placed on our charts before, but this week they score their first chart entry by debuting at No.43 with their fourth album "Blood Pressures". And it's been seven years since an Unwritten Law album has been released, but this week their new set "Swan" makes its chart debut at No.41. Their previous chart entries have been...
