I think that seems really unfair though. Andorra haven't qualified from a few attempts, why would they come back and pay to enter if not only they don't make the final, but they don't get a say in who wins? Just an example, and I hate the idea.

Why is it unfair though? They haven't qualified for the final, therefore why should they have a say in who wins really? The year when Serbia & Montenegro got disqualified and they were still allowed to vote was a complete pisstake too. Just having the finalists vote would bring back the excitement of the voting once again, where it is likely to be a closer finish. Look at 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2003 for example - all pretty close finishes with the winner being decided on the final few votes. Then you have every year since 2006, where the winner has been pretty obvious from about 25 or 30 votes out of 40+. Not good.

Well if you want countries like Andorra, Monaco and the Czech Republic to feel even more alienated and never return and countries like Macedonia, Slovakia, Belarus etc to withdraw for the same reason then the only finalists allowed voting system sounds magnificent!

If you want it to be more exciting, then there is nothing wrong in keeping everyone happy with having them all vote and then having a computer organize them into a specific order.

The exciting element was having each country read out all of their scores. And that's not going to happen with it being in the current state. It hardly makes countries like Andorra, Czech Republic and Monaco feel "alienated" - they should just try harder. Countries aren't going to withdraw just because they can't vote in the final, let's be honest.
Try harder? I think Andorra, at least, has proved that nothing they do will get them into the final. I would be surprised to see Monaco back now, and Czech Republic returning really depends on seeing their neighbours Slovakia doing well, which I really don't think they will this time tbh.

I'm sure all the countries announced their scores in 2007, and there aren't that many more now than there were then. Andorra and Czech Republic did try pretty hard, the former was very unlucky in 2007 and would have made the final through the two semi final system had it been introduced that year. Czech Republic sent three very notable acts (all of thom were big names in their homeland) but all of them failed. One thing you have to remember is these smaller countries also don't have the wealth of talent the UK music industry has.

Countries who aren't voting in the final are going to be rather reluctant to show it on tv, and if they are entering then it is a rule that they broadcast the final. A lot of broadcasters will think "what's the point?" . The BBC got arsey enough at the thought of having to go through a semi final, how must the Macedonian broadcaster feel? Then to add insult to injury, their voting rights get taken away too...?

The Czech Republic might have sent three very "notable" acts, but didn't they receive a grand total of ten points through their three entries? I can't remember their 2007 song, but their 2008 one was ruined by the "revamp" and I won't even mention 2009 because it was horrendous... Andorra perhaps should've gone through in 2007, but all of their other songs have been very average. Although I did like 'Casanova'... And I think comparing these to the "wealth of talent the UK music industry has" is slightly irrelevant for the Eurovision... Most of our acts from the past ten years would be passable for an Andorran entry tbh.

I see your point regarding having to show the final etc. But tough...how many non-ESC fans are really that bothered who wins if they're not in the final, really?

Their entries may have not been very good, but you can't say they didn't try, which is the point I was trying to make. They sent the best they could come up with. I'm not comparing their entries to the music we produce in the UK, what I'm saying is they are sending their equivalent of what we should be sending.

Maybe the non-esc fans aren't that bothered about who wins, but the broadcaster would be annoyed as not voting means they don't get any advertisement at all in the final, their country doesn't get any advertisement for tourism purposes and their telecoms provider (for those with televoting) doesn't get any revenue from votes. Therefore, given the amount of costs incurred on sending an entry into the contest, there isn't much point in entering.

What do you mean 'proved' that nothing they do will get them in? They never sent anything that could've conceivably crossed over to the whole of Europe!

All countries are only one 'Fairytale' away from winning...I genuinely believe that a song like that would have won no matter who had entered it. My favourite Andorran entry was actually their debut (Jugarem A Estimar Nos went top 5 in my chart ) but I was hardly shocked when it failed to qualify, and none of their other entries were that standout either. I did think that their 2007 entry had a chance but it was just watered down Busted 4 years late tbh...

50:50 voting works out fine at the moment. Why ruin it?

Have you read the thread? It's not the 50/50 voting that they might be changing...

Clearly not aha. In that case, I still say no to all the non qualified countries having a single vote.

I miss the old ways of voting, as in the juries call out all scores, i also miss that you dont know who is voting next, like years ago say if sweden were winning and there was 3 juries left with sweden been one of them it made it more exciting. I also miss the top 10 acts each year qualifying, for me that added further excitment in the voting becuase even if your country hadnt a chance of winning you would get excited to see if they will manage to automatically qualify for the following year and avoid the semi finals.

Part of me thinks only the countries in the final should vote for the final but they would lose alot of money by doing that and im not sure if all those who dont qualify been rolled into one vote would go down well either. Its hard to know what is best as there will always be some theory that it is not fair to such and such country etc.

I would like to think that overall the most poular song wins due to the voters liking the song and not because it comes from a certain country, i know when i vote myself i vote for my favourite song regardless of what country its from if everyone voted that way including the juries well what more could we ask for.

What annoys me or should say i takes the goodness out of the voting for example is say the consistant year after year greece and cyrus swapping 12 points when that keeps happening it makes the voting questionable, in stark contrast the uk and ireland are very close neighbours but have never swapped 12 points every year, yes we usually award each other some points but its unbelievable how greece and cyrpus work. As i said its hard to know what is for the best as i think no matter what they do not everyone will be happy.

They are deciding the voting order after the juries vote on Friday night. :)
