April 30, 201114 yr Author 06. Don't Bother Score: 8.363 MjRRQdnOR-A It was a pretty brave move to release this when you're not really known in most countries for big female rock songs. It didn't really pay off but I'm still glad she released it because quite a few non Shakira fans seem to enjoy this song and it shows off a different side to her.
April 30, 201114 yr ugh, it's unfortunate that waka waka was one of the times where the UK decided to show their distinct lack of music taste compared to europe, SO MUUCH BETTER than wavin flag.
April 30, 201114 yr 10. Did It Again Score: 7.931 igcsNG4aruA Oh man...I absolutely adore this song. It makes me so sad that this flopped. I love how it's melancholic yet uptempo at the same time. Pharrell's production is amazing and the video is brilliant: I can't fault this song at all, except for the fact it should've been released about 2 months before it was. LOVE this song :o Too low :snif:
May 23, 201114 yr What happened Ashley ? Where's the top 5 !??!!!? :( Pretty please :) Edited May 23, 201114 yr by Lift Me Up
May 23, 201114 yr Author 05. La Tortura Score: 8.704 Dsp_8Lm1eSk This is possibly my favourite Shakira song. It's almost flawless from start to finish; distinctive intro, seductive verses and pre chorus, killer chorus, amazing bridge from Alejandro Sanz and then the equally amazing "ay ay ay" outro. The production was bang on trend as well preempting the reggaeton explosion. The video is possibly one of Shakira's best as well - crazy choreography and the ridiculous oil scenes. It's no wonder that this was such a crossover. Just a shame it couldn't have crossed over into the UK.
May 23, 201114 yr Author 04. Hips Don't Lie Score: 8.818 DUT5rEU6pqM This is probably Shakira's signature song now but it was pretty controversial amongst fans when it was released, mainly because it was a reworked version of a song that already existed and - shock horror - featured a rapper. At the time it seemed so UN-Shakira like, but now this song is the epitome of Shakira. She completely made this her own and took it to the top and deserves all the credit for this being one of the biggest songs of all time. It's ridiculously catchy and highly danceable. It's hard not to love.
May 23, 201114 yr Author 03. Underneath Your Clothes Score: 8.818 (scored about .00001 more than HDL) fLZdO7ZNRwE For some reason the UYC video is unavailable in my country so here is a great performance from TOTP. This song was the song that cemented my love for Shakira. Whenever Wherever was brilliant but it's hard to buy into a new artist from one song and this was a brilliant follow up. It showed a completely different side to Shakira whilst still being equally captivating. Edited May 23, 201114 yr by Ashley
May 23, 201114 yr Author 02. She Wolf Score: 9.413 booKP974B0k A risky song that was a new direction for Shakira, but also completely different to anything else in the charts. It didn't really pay off, despite being so well received by critics. This never really clicked with me, I don't really find it that catchy and sort of wish the production had a bit more "oomph" but a lot of people do really like it. The main thing with this song is that it basically kicked off the She Wolf era with all the frustrations that plagued it throughout - poor planning and promotion. In America, it was released to radio and itunes in July but the video premiered a ridiculously long time afterwards and then she only started promoting it in September! Even the UK where she had good promo slots like Jonathan Ross and Jools Holland, the single release was too long after the video release which caused a fake version to chart on iTunes and prompted a Wednesday release which robbed this song of a number 1 spot.
May 23, 201114 yr Author 01. Whenever, Wherever Score: 9.545 weRHyjj34ZE The song that kicked it all off... There's not much to say about it other than bask in its glory. It sounded amazing in 2002 and still holds up today. Future/already classic.
May 23, 201114 yr Author Sorry I was a bit slack with this - I'm too lazy! Get your posts in before Shakira gets archived :( Thanks for all votes and all the posts!!!
May 23, 201114 yr I remember hearing WW back in 2001 and mesmerized by the video. Soon, the song clicked with me and now its probably my favourite english Shakira track. I still think her best song overall is Estoy Aqui from 1996. Dont like Don't Bother much, for me it should be in last place.
May 23, 201114 yr YES! I'd say the best song won! 'Whenever, Wherever' is one of the best songs of the 00's, as is Hips Don't Lie. The Top 4 is great, although I think She Wolf is maybe a little bit too high. Thanks Ashley! ^_^
May 24, 201114 yr She Wolf totally deserves #2 tbh, but I really think that La Tortura should be AT LEAST #4... Total anthem, the place went mental for this one at the O2
