Posted April 30, 201114 yr This was recorded when Estoy Aqui was originally released and her label wanted her to try a crossover then. It's only just leaked now though. It's quite interesting to hear. tLe1X91jrlc
April 30, 201114 yr Did she record this back in the 90s then? It's strange to hear as I'm SO familiar with the original and never really expected to hear this but I love it!
April 30, 201114 yr Author Did she record this back in the 90s then? Yeah, I think so. One of her managers wanted her to record it as a crossover hit but it seems like Shakira didn't want it to happen that way so it was scrapped. It was used in a documentary where they spoke to the guy that recorded it recently which is why it's only just surfaced now.
April 30, 201114 yr Wow, it's better than I expected. This is one of my favourite Spanish songs of hers. It's said that Eyes Like Yours was recorded in the 90s too, maybe they were done at the same session, though I know the Spanish version is from 1995. Have you all heard the Portugese version btw? _4SFxUo1tuI

From the documentary, apparently it was recorded before DELL and a guy at Sony France recorded the song with her because he wanted her to try a crossover. Apparently, Shakira was asked to record DELL in English but it was scrapped because she'd rather record her own original material which is how Laundry Service came about. I think Eyes Like Yours came from these sessions.
May 1, 201114 yr Interesting. Can I watch this documentary somewhere? So she could have ended up with Sony France. I never understood how she ended up on Sony Netherlands, unless that's just a copyright thing.
May 1, 201114 yr The portuguese version is what made her huge in Brazil. Funnily enough here in Portugal we never heard it, it was the spanish version that was a HUGE hit here. Actually it's the first song I remember by Shakira be played on the radio. But then in the 90s we embraced Brazilian, Spanish, Italian artists singing in their own languages :)
