May 14, 201114 yr He was great on the Chris Moyles marathon show, and other times he's been into the show. The kili climb was good too, and he was suffering with his back. Maybe there's just not so many opportunities for the light hearted interviews anymore and the focus is always on rob anyway. I think people are so quick to criticise Gary, they just want to knock him down a peg or 2 it seems, and scrutinise his every move. It'll get even worse come X Factor time! :( I don't think I can be critical of Gary I'm afraid because I guess I want to see him through rose tinted glasses...but what annoys me is that other members of the band are guilty of much worse and yet its never mentioned. In terms of role model, you can't go far worse than Gary in my opinion. Personally, i like Gary, he comes across as a genuine guy who has seen pretty much every area of the music industry for better or worse. The press slated him unfairly and drove him to leave the country and consider changing his name. That is unconditionally cruel if you ask me, for a guy who did nothing wrong to be left in that predicament by the media who didnt even know him but are quick enough to jump on the Robbie train and slate him. His music was actually not too bad, some of his solo records were quality pieces of work (lie to me, yesterday's girl etc) but it didnt matter what he released he would always be hung out to dry by the media. Its obvious now that the media have recognised their actions and what they put him through along with his family and have been praising him for his involvement in bringing TT back with a bang with number 1 singles, albums and sell out tours alike, and quite rightly so. Im extremely happy that Gary is finally recieving the recognition he deserves. He is a great musician and songwriter and has a very strong voice. He has had 13 number 1 hits (solo/TT) and 7 number one albums (again solo/TT) but he still remains a genuine guy. When do you ever read of Gary falling out of a nightclub, doing drugs, cheating on his wife etc etc in contrast to 3/5 of TT who have fallen down that trap. Im interested as much as the next person to see what happens with the X Factor thing, but Gary clearly knows his music and the industry and that is a good thing. Robbie would have been a more entertaining choice as a judge but Gary im sure will give the contestants great advice and guidance. I think people need to stop focusing on the X Factor being a PR stunt by the Barlow camp and take it at face value where a successful artist (who doesnt need the money, publicity etc) is going on to a talent contest to find the next wave of UK music acts and help them through the process of finding their feet in the industry. I hope it goes well for Gary and im glad that on the whole the support from the public has been overwhelming in relation to his addition to the judging panel. Edited May 14, 201114 yr by jay727

I agree with everything you've said. I think Gary is always keen to find the next new talent. This isnt a new thing for him. He has his own record label, he wanted to be part of the scheme proposed by David Cameron. I think he genuinely believes in investing in new talent. Whether X Factor is the right way to go about it remains to be seen, but good luck to him I say!

I thought they'd be on target for financing that already with the money saved from the NHS and Council cuts. The UK desperately needs more wannabees who think they can sing - who the hell needs doctors and nurses? They should really hurry it along if its still a goer. Kath Edited May 14, 201114 yr by Kathyp

Kath I know, I work in a secondary school, so I was very eager for this to go ahead! Haha! This was the last thing that was said about it: http://www.musicweek.com/story.asp?section...1044385&c=1 Theres loads of cuts in education too. We're going through redundancies at the moment

We're going through redundancies at the moment I know - I'm just glad that although my opinion of Gary Barlow has soured (sorry - I can't take his charity work seriously when he is actively behind a party that believes in making cuts to education, health, councils OK - councils I can understand because the IS a huge amount of wastage) I'm still (fairly) eager to see Take That in concert - I'm even looking forward to seeing Robbie (although I WILL have to go to the bar when he sings Angels - the song makes me want to puke!)
