May 18, 201114 yr Are always making him out to be a saint? His name has taken a serious beating on twitter since the news came out. It's not all positive and one sided. So there should be people willing to see the good in him just as there are obviously loads of people who see the bad. I think that yes, hes negotiated a high wage for himself, of course he has, but why is that necessarily a bad thing. However, I personally believe the main reason for him doing it is to find talent, I genuinely think he believes in it. Im sorry I know I always champion Gary, but that's just me Im afraid, I think the dude is fantastic...I probably wouldn't have said that 15 years ago though. I just don't see what's wrong in saying 'yes ... its mainly for the money' ... there's no shame in that. Kath
May 18, 201114 yr I just don't see what's wrong in saying 'yes ... its mainly for the money' ... there's no shame in that. Kath No I agree, if it's true, but we don't know if it is do we? It just doesnt make sense though, Im pretty sure he can make a hell of a lot of money in far more satisfying ways. Even if you think money is a motivator, it can't be the only one.
May 18, 201114 yr Yes, im sure money is a motivator but with garys bank balance im sure the money he will make from x factor wont make him up or down, i cant see him getting much more than a million for his role of x factor.

Even if you think money is a motivator, it can't be the only one. I just think he's being very, very foolish in doing it at all. He is going to bear most of the flak when the viewing figures go down. Viewing figures would have decreased anyway - as I said in another forum here - the show has hit that '7 year-itch' time of its life anyway so I don't know what Gary feels he can bring to the table to stabilise or better still ... increase viewing figures. With the probably consequences ahead (i.e., head + chopping block) then I think he should have held out for £5M - at least his sanity wouldn't be in any doubt then. Kath
May 18, 201114 yr Author I think fame is his main motivation and also that the viewer number will increase at the beginning at least because all the TT fans and x factor fans will be curious to see Mr Barlow as a judge. It depends from Mr Barlow if he will deliver, but as TT fans loves Mr Barlow no matter what, he can say stupid things and they will be enchanted  But looking for talent on such a show? No, he is not so stupid to believe that... You don't make talent over night, you have to invest a lot of time to develop someone and not on a weekly basis. Yes,i know he likes to be looked as someone with genious strikes who makes a song in a second, but a voice needs development to be polished, to reveal its personality - ask any real musician. This is the explanation why even Leona, after one year, kind of flopped!

It depends from Mr Barlow if he will deliver, but as TT fans loves Mr Barlow no matter what, he can say stupid things and they will be enchanted  I do agree that a certain amount of vanity plays a fairly large part in this decision to do this. Certainly - whichever act he ends up mentoring will (as long as they are modestly talented and not a total disaster area) win - as the whole (avid) Take That fan-base will vote no matter what.) But looking for talent on such a show? No, he is not so stupid to believe that... You don't make talent over night, you have to invest a lot of time to develop someone and not on a weekly basis. Yes,i know he likes to be looked as someone with genious strikes who makes a song in a second, but a voice needs development to be polished, to reveal its personality - ask any real musician. This is the explanation why even Leona, after one year, kind of flopped! Again - I find myself agreeing totally with you Daniele. I do remember years back - when Take That were just into the first flush of their 'second era' success - that Gary said he wanted to do a search for talent - but in a totally different way to the X-F. I took it to mean that he'd be going round clubs/pubs - maybe with a small film crew - to seek out bands, etc. That idea was so much better (even if it had been tried before - Barlow did have the respect of people, at that time, to make it work) X-F however - is an immediate showcase for fame (for the judges anyway) so your first argument seems to make sense. I honestly don't know what to think. Part of me wants the X-F to succeed - maybe get a bit of credibility - and Barlow prove all those people who say he's boring (because he isn't) wrong. I hate to say though that another part of me wants it to fail just to make him eat a bit of humble pie. Kath Edited May 18, 201114 yr by Kathyp
May 18, 201114 yr I think Gary has ate enough humble pie in his day to be fair so i would hate to see that happen again. I do have reservations about this series of x factor though as its all change and its hard to know how its going to work, i will especially miss dannii from the panel, lets hope the new panel who ever they are will have chemistry, be constructive and not afraid to disagree with each other.
May 19, 201114 yr Maybe it's to raise the profile of the band in America? I mean the man to replace Simon Cowell, that's going to put his name into households immediately. But I agree, I don't think this is a good way of doing it. I hate to be pessimistic, but I can't imagine they're going to save the show. I only ever really liked the first series back when it was Pop Idol. I think the British public are getting a bit bored of it, just like Big Brother. The only good thing to come out of it is seeing the Barlow every week! I have to disagree with the whole 'enchanted no matter what he says' thing though. We're not completely stupid, just because we're fans.
May 19, 201114 yr I'm sorry - I have to post this. It is a little cruel but it is funny. http://www.thenewsgrind.com/celebrity/x-fa...ity-injections/ Kath
May 19, 201114 yr Gary Barlow 'X Factor' deal 'worth £1.5m' Wednesday, May 18 2011, 08:27 BST By Ryan Love, Entertainment ReporterRecommend6Tweet4Send to friend More optionsGary BarlowSimon CowellDannii MinogueTVX Factor © WENN Gary Barlow will reportedly make £1.5 million from his deal to join The X Factor. The Take That star was widely tipped as a possible replacement for Simon Cowell on the judging panel. Speaking at the first auditions for the upcoming US version, Cowell revealed that Barlow was the "first person confirmed" for the eighth series. "Gary is not exactly a D-list celebrity so hiring him comes with a cost," an insider told The Sun. "With Cheryl (Cole) and Simon out of the picture there was some decent cash to hire big names. "But it's not about the money for him - he is genuinely interested in bringing on new talent." Cowell will be joined by Cole on the US show, while Dannii Minogue has also announced that she will not return to the panel. The Australian mentored Matt Cardle to victory last year, but told fans that she had quit due to a schedule clash with her role on Australia's Got Talent. N-Dubz's Tulisa Contostavlos could join the ITV1 show in a deal alleged to be worth £500,000. "This is a dream come true for Tulisa. This will catapult her to a household name," a friend told the paper. "She is being talked about as the new Cheryl." Louis Walsh is expected to continue his judging role, with auditions originally due to begin in Manchester today postponed to next month.
May 21, 201114 yr And if true - he could be up against Rob on the other side. http://www.list.co.uk/article/34507-robbie...udge-the-voice/ Robbie Williams is reportedly being lined up as a judge on new BBC talent show 'The Voice', putting him in direct competition with Take That bandmate Gary Barlow, who will be on the panel for rival series 'The X Factor'. Robbie Williams is being lined up as a judge on new BBC talent show 'The Voice'. The Take That singer - whose bandmate Gary Barlow has been confirmed for the judging panel of rival ITV1 show 'The X Factor' - could be set to join the likes of 'Someone Like You' hitmaker Adele and former 'X Factor' judge Dannii Minogue on the panel of the new reality series. With the US version of the show - judged by Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine - being a huge hit across the pond, BBC bosses are hoping Robbie and Gary's rivalry would make the series a likely contender to steal The X Factor's crown. An insider told The Sun newspaper: "They still have healthy rivalry and this would kick in if they were on opposing shows. "Robbie would be great, particularly with his rivalry with Gary." May 30, 201114 yr Well its now confirmed that Gary is a new x factor judge along with Kelly Rowland Tulsa from N Dubz and Louis Walshe.
June 11, 201114 yr It appears Gary is a tough judge and is not afraid to give his honest opinion, i really expected gary to be a nice judge.
June 12, 201114 yr but reading the reports it also appears that he has been a success so far and everyone involved with the x factor and itv can't speak more highly of him.
June 13, 201114 yr TAKE That fans besieged The X Factor auditions yesterday - with judge Gary Barlow telling one: "It's like looking in the mirror." Lookalike Ashley Crow, of tribute band Totally Take That, belted out Gary's hit Love Ain't Here Anymore. Impressed Gary told Ashley: "You have impeccable taste in music. You look amazing. "It's just like looking in a mirror!" But fellow judge Tulisa Contostavlos chipped in: "I'm not sure if there's room for another Gary. There's only one Gary Barlow." Gary filmed auditions all day in Manchester before racing to the MEN Arena to perform with his band. Other tribute acts included two Adam Ant lookalikes, who sang Lady GaGa's Paparazzi. A source said: "Gary had really high hopes for them and said that Adam Ant was his first musical icon. But they were rubbish. It was a double disappointment." Gary, 40, was moved by the story of a girl named Kristianne - who set up charity Dexter's Wish after her baby son died. He promised to get signed Take That merchandise for her to sell to raise money for the cause. Meanwhile, Tulisa, spent the day trying to stop Louis Walsh referring to her band as "The N-Dubz". She kept telling him it was just N-Dubz, but a source said: "Louis is a lost cause." Read more: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showb...l#ixzz1PCqbdr1S
June 13, 201114 yr I can't remember where I read it but Gary was set to find new talent to perform at the opening ceremony for Olympics 2012 on a programme for the BBC, however the people behind the ceremony decided they wanted known artists instead so the programme was scrapped. Simon Cowell comes along soon after with his offer and Gary accepts. Take it with a grain of salt though, who knows how much is true. Year on year the viewing figures for the X Factor have increased. The biggest judge was Simon but his loss didn't destroy American Idol and Britain's Got Talent did fine before he rejoined the panel. A few years ago Cheryl wasn't on the panel and people didn't know if she'd be any good when she joined, I doubt her loss will really change much. The audience are fickle and were quick to turn on her when she didn't put Gamu through last year, instead choosing Katie "can't complete a song without causing a drama" Waissel. As for Dannii... honestly I think everyone has very short memories if they forget how disliked she has been - there were calls she should go when she made a comment about Daryl's sexuality in series 6. Viewers only love people once they're gone, but they soon forget and this time will be no different. Anyone would think this is the first shake up! Remember Sharon? The show is bigger than any judge, no matter what the press would have us believe. We watch it because it's entertaining, and switching a few people about isn't going to change that. From what I've read Gary is being Mr. Mean, and doing a surprisingly good job at it by all accounts. I don't think it will harm him in any way (some still adore Cowell and he was never backwards about coming forwards). I think if he's being as mean (truthful?) as reports say then he's just taking it seriously and it might be what the show needs... considering Louis is still there someone needs to. I'm interested to see how the other new judges are doing though. The big question though is... who will be the special guest at the judges houses!? Is it too much to hope for Beyonce at Kelly's since she's been on the X Factor before? I'm hoping for Tinchy Stryder or Chipmunk for Tulisa (admittedly, I don't know many people she's performed with). Louis will get in Sharon again probably. The obvious choice for Gary is Robbie (doubtful if he does get The Voice job) or Mark, but I'm hoping it's someone more unexpected.

Oh and on the Olympics thing .... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showb...f-X-Factor.html To be honest though - I agree it was a good idea to shelve the idea. June 13, 201114 yr i WOULD be surprised if garys special guest isnt one of the take that guys and it most likely been robbie or mark, if not its hard to know who else it would be.
July 28, 201113 yr http://celebrity.uk.msn.com/news/gossip/ar...entid=158698497 Bosses at the UK X Factor reportedly forked out £10,000 for a private jet to fly Gary Barlow just 19 miles across London. Bosses at the UK X Factor reportedly forked out £10,000 for a private jet to fly Gary Barlow just 19 miles across London. The 40-year-old singer needed to get from the show's auditions at London's O2 Arena to Wembley Stadium to perform with Take That. According to The Mirror, execs decided that the fastest way would be by air. So instead of having to take a 50-minute Tube journey, which would have cost around £5, the judge travelled in style – but was still late. A source told The Mirror, "We shelled out all this money for a private plane as we wanted him to see all the auditions and get to his gigs. "It sounds a lot but we thought it was the best way to get him to Wembley. "Gary is seen as being the new Simon Cowell on the show this year, and he certainly travelled like him." An X Factor spokesman declined to comment.
July 28, 201113 yr I seen this story on teletext today aswell, not sure how true it all is, but i cant really see someone like gary just popping on the tube whether its only a fiver or not.
