July 28, 201113 yr I seen this story on teletext today aswell, not sure how true it all is, but i cant really see someone like gary just popping on the tube whether its only a fiver or not. What a waste of money though! I mean - just think how many mosquito nets that could have bought? I'm sorry but when mega-rich celebrities start taking charity seriously - maybe I will. Until that day - I'm not giving anything away again! Kath
August 24, 201113 yr I watched X Factor at the weekend and i am very impressed with gary, he looks very comfortable and very natural as a judge on the show. I look forward to the live shows when he is mentoring his acts i think he will completly out shine the others by far at that stage.
August 24, 201113 yr Don't believe its true: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-...s-Mr-Nasty.html
August 24, 201113 yr i agree, gary is looking like a great judge and exactly what the x factor needs - someone who actually cares about music over tv ratings
August 25, 201113 yr Im with ye guys, i liked him and its like he has been doing it for years, plus we get to see more of his personality, im also looking forward to the live shows when the judges fight for their own acts, im looking forward to see what direction etc gary will take his acts in.
September 26, 201113 yr I was surprised Gary wouldnt want the groups as i thought he would want to share his experience with the groups, on saying that i dont think the groups have a hope n hell of winning this year so thats why he probably didnt want them. Gary has a strong category and i think getting him as mentor would be the best outcome on the show, i also suspect gary will eventually sign one of 2 of his losing acts to his own label if he takes a shine to them himself.
September 26, 201113 yr Author May i say " i told you so"?: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showb...Xmas-bonus.html The new Dieter Bohlen is here  (whooooaaaaa, i used to like Modern Talking and Blue System actually back in time, so the comparation is for me fit).
September 26, 201113 yr im interested in Gary writing the winner's single...firstly, last year the 4 finalists each had a different winner song, so does that mean Gary will put 4 songs on the table and they choose themselves or will it be just one...i wonder if he will go down the structure of geraldines song where its always rising waiting for that big chorus, or whether it will be more like matt cardles single...interesting stuff!

Jay I know you're going to say that I'm always knocking Gary - but I think (if its true) that him writing the winner's song is a really gross (in its most horrible sense) bad idea. For sure - it'll give him his second number 1 for an act other than Take That - but at what cost? I've listened to samples of Matt Cardle's album and I'm not alone in saying that Gary's song is possibly one of the weakest songs on it. Just how thin is Gary spreading himself? I can see him having loads of number 1s now and each one of them worse than the last. There can surely be no question surely that Gary is in it for his own profile. He is turning into Simon Cowell.
September 26, 201113 yr Gary==Simon Cowell, as in pompous and arrogant??  Yes - although I have to concede that at least Gary can play a musical instrument. Not sure about Simon! Gosh the more I read into this the more I can see tht Gary had all of this planned - the only thing he needed to get the ball rolling in his favour was to get Mark, Howard and Jason to agree to the original reunion. Mind you - they're all quids-in too so I can't see them complaining (and I don't blame them - I'd have probably done the same! To hell with principles! ) Kath
September 26, 201113 yr Leaving aside gary writing the winners song, i have to say i hope it is true as i have always said the winners song should be a new song not a cover version so in terms of that im delighted, as its gary related i hope its good, interesting to see though if it will be 4 new songs for 4 finalists or what way they will do it. Maybe they will do a double a side this year, each cover a song of their own, they all sing the new song in their own style. Maybe im naive when it come sto gary but for the life of me i cant see how all of this could be planned, i think it just fell into place, on syaing that im sure when gary was in talks for x factor he would have asked about writing the winners song etc so that part was probably planned but all the rest in my opinion couldnt be planned. Overall i think gary is very qualified for the job and i think he will do his own acts very proud and do alot with them. For me i think gary fits the job well, as we was big take that first time round, then had some solo success, then failed solo, then ended up hated by almost everyone and turned into a joke and then returned bigger than ever, additionally it did have image problems, ie the fat one from the group etc so overall he has alot to give, for me i look past all the did he plan it, is it to boost his solo name etc, if he did he did, it doesnt effect my day, im enjoying him on x factor alot. I must also add im loving kelly rowland and think she is also doing a great job and like gary is very qualified for the job, she knows the highs and lows of the music business so again im enjoying her, whether she had planned all this either i dont really care as again im enjoying her and gary for what it is.

IF true - then surely he's going to have to be working on them now. In which case he should be writing one each specifically with an act in mind, i.e., one to suit a young boy, a young girl, a group, an adult. Having said that - he's probably got a song already in his bag of songs - but then its hardly one specifically written for the show and may as well be a cover. Lets hope its better than the ones he's written for Barrowman, Dixon and Matt Cardle. I honestly don't think its fair to have one of the judges write the song though. I'd have been happy if Gary was writing and not judging - but this is going to stink of some sort of nepotism. If its true that is! Kath Hey! He'd better keep some decent songs back for Take That - or maybe he doesn't need those guys anymore. Edited September 26, 201113 yr by Sheila Blige
September 26, 201113 yr Gary wont walk away from Take That, i would say one thing he knows for definite is he needs those guys no matter what and without them he is lost in terms of career, i know his wife and kids are far more important on the overall though. I see what you mean about been a judge and writing, but up until now hasnt simon been a judge and picking all the winners singles so its some what the same apart from we get an original song. Now as i said i always said the winners song should be a new song so that request could now be sorted my other was as it always (nearly always!!) gets the christmas number 1 i wonder is there any song writer along with producers etc and give us a proper christmas single as its badly needed. In my opinion the last proper christmas single released was all i want for christmas is you by mariah carey.
September 28, 201113 yr Gary hanging out with one of Simon's close pals. http://www.3am.co.uk/gary-barlow-hangs-out...n-cowell/29894/ Maybe Philip Green can give Gary some tax advice! Kath Its a shame really. If people like Green paid what was due there'd be not as much need for Gary to do all his 'charidee' work. Edited September 28, 201113 yr by Sheila Blige
September 29, 201113 yr I think the press will now start with more of this simon and gary comparisons, and it will become boring and repetitive.
October 8, 201113 yr This is for you Kath: An interview with Gary.. He also reveals he joined the primetime series simply because he "wanted to" and is not participating to promote his music, or worse still, save his career: "I'm really glad I don't have to go, 'What a brilliant audition – now excuse me, everybody, I need to go and do my new single now'," he explains. :) http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/oct/0...robbie-williams

I mean I know he didn't do it to promote his music or to save his music career (although he has carved out a new one for himself - which anyone may want to do at any time) I'm just disappointed that he DID do it. I agree - apart from one or two decisions in the show (keeping Frankie - who hasn't got a voice - and getting rid of John Wilding - the guy who has 'probably the best voice in the competition') he's the best judge. I still don't hold with shows like X-Factor which pretend to be about music when we all know its just prime-time 'light-entertainment'. Still - the show makes a lot of people happy and it may be their only opportunity to listen to music. Kath
October 9, 201113 yr I like him as a judge and i have to say i agreed with all his opinions on the first show, it will be more interesting though from next week on as the public vote starts so the judges can defend their acts even more when they dont have to get rid of one themselves.
October 30, 201113 yr X FACTOR was thrown into further turmoil last night after Gary Barlow admitted he might not return next year. The Take That star told how the immense stress and workload of Britain’s biggest TV show had left him exhausted and going grey. Revealing his doubts in a tell-all interview with the Daily Star Sunday, Gary said: “These live shows have been more demanding than I thought they would be. I am enjoying it but it’s stressful. I’d like to get to the end of the season before deciding to come back. “Don’t get me wrong, I’ve really enjoyed it and if I was asked back next year I would definitely consider it. But it has been ten times more work than I thought it was going to be. “I didn’t book anything in my diary for the rest of the year and thank God because I haven’t got the energy to do anything else. “When I get to Monday morning I’mcompletely drained.” Gary, 40, has been a huge hit with viewers after replacing show boss Simon Cowell as head judge. He is incredibly supportive and protective of his “boys” Craig Colton, 22, Marcus Collins, 23, and Frankie Cocozza, 18. But despite being popular with fans, the music legend admitted the pressures of working on the reality contest have been overwhelming. He went on: “It follows you everywhere and all that anybody wants to talk about is X Factor. You are responsible for putting people on stage and saying to the public, ‘What do you think?’ and it’s not always good. “I’ve had lots of sleepless nights and my stubble is going grey.” X Factor has faced criticism in recent weeks over falling ratings. But Gary said he did not feel the new judging panel was to blame, saying: “You know what? I don’t feel responsible for the something will change that. I think the ratings thing is just a way for some- one to criticise the number one show.” The singer told how he loved getting regular pep talks from Simon, 52, on how to make the show better. He said: “Simon was really pleased with last week’s show. I spoke to him this week and the one act we both wanted to discuss was Frankie. “We both felt we’d been lazy with him on the second week so we were both pleased we’d improved there.” Admitting Simon has become a massive inspiration, he added: “Simon normally rings morning my time because he’s in Los Angeles. As someone who always wants to learn, it’s brilliant to hear from the exec producer of the show. “I’m here because I like the challenge, I want to be the best at this. I learn so much from half an hour on the phone with Simon. And I love it, I love the feedback.” If this does happen, X Factor will be in BIG trouble! According to national polls on X Factor 67% have Gary as their favourite judge and 78% believe he is a better judge than Simon. So if he does leave, 1. who would have the pedigree in music to replace him? and 2. the ratings would tumble extremely fast
