This is an 80s number ones rate using every song that hit number 1 in the 1980s. What will happen is there will be 10 rounds, the first being 1980, then 1981 etc. up to round 10 which will be 1989. The top 4 from each round will go straight to the final, and 5th to 7th placed will go in a "wildcard" round.

The top ten songs from the "wildcard" round will be put into the final round to make a top 50 of the decade. After the final the next rate will be 00s number 2s

How you rate the songs; exactly the same as last time, you do not rate every song that hit number one, you just rate your ten favourites and your least favourite. You give +15 points to your favourite song, and the rest are as follows; This is to hopefully stop ties from happening inside the top 3.

+15 Favourite Song

+12 2nd Favourite Song

+10 3rd Favourite Song

+08 4th Favourite

+06 5th Favourite

+05 6th Favourite

+04 7th Favourite

+03 8th Favourite

+02 9th Favourite

+01 10th Favourite

-02 Least Favourite, or Most Hated depending on what way you look at it

These are the songs you need to rate from. You have 2 days for every round to rate. This means the deadline is Thursday morning and hopefully round 5 (1984) will be up by then.

Oh dear, how did that Bonnie Tyler rubbish get through? 1984 is a bit better than 1983 at least. Wonder if I'm the first person ever to put the same band at +15 and -2?

+15 Frankie Goes To Hollywood “Two Tribes” Higher NRG than Relax and with an iconic video

+12 Jim Diamond “I Should Have Known Better” Call it cheesy, but the combo of the over the top guitar, the I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I... lyrics and the ridiculous ending of the video makes it a real winner for me

+10 Frankie Goes To Hollywood “Relax” Classic Mike Reid-bothering sauce

+8 Band Aid “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” I do genuinely think the original version was a great pop song

+6 Paul McCartney “Pipes Of Peace” I like the WW1 video

+5 Chaka Khan “I Feel For You” or chuck a can as Morris Minor and the Majors would later parody

+4 Duran Duran “The Reflex” Not their best record - their best songs never made it to the top it seems

+3 Wham! “Freedom” Probably Wham!'s best song, much better than that Wake Me Up rubbish

+2 Nena “99 Red Balloons” I used to think I quite liked this, but I don't - for some reason always the first song played when some American TV show or film wants to go ironically '80s'

+1 George Michael “Careless Whisper” The best one from what's left - just because the saxophone is so over the top

-2 Frankie Goes To Hollywood “The Power Of Love” Always hated this record, can't find a positive in it

It might you know! Sadly I don't think Jim Diamond will.

I doubt it'd beat Band Aid, Frankie Goes To Hollywood (x3), George Michael and Nena. Mind you, that's still only 6 songs so it might scrape through on 7th if it's lucky but then there's also Duran Duran and Wham! which are pretty popular so I still can't see it. Too much competition for poor Chaka! :drama: I think it could have got through in 1982 or 1983 though.
