Re-watching Eurovision 2010, 3+2's vocal performance was very ropey and the wings props were laughable but I forgot how much of a soft spot I had for Butterflies!

And oh joy, I'd *almost* managed to wipe the squelching synths of That Sounds Good To Me out of my mind forever :drama: At least it had more of a tune than Even If, even if () it sounds like it was tailor made for a Butlins advertising campaign in the late 80s.

Was watching ESC 2010 Semifinals a week ago as well, and so many things didn't make sense. :(

'Il Pleut De L'or' was definitely one of the best, if not THE best, performances of the year, in retrospect. Malta not making it was a pity too. I guess if the song was more original (and bitch didn't do those annoying same hand movements all the freaking time), they could stand a big chance. Burgerdahl's performance was amazing as well! Feminnem would've SO made it had they not butchered the beginning of the song. Also, Bosnia & Herzegovina deserved to be Top 10 with such an incredible performance!

At least the winner made perfect sense :D Sweden should have sent Keep On Walking, their own fault...

How could I forget how worried I became when the first two twelves went to Lisa Scott-Lee and her awkward uncle singing Tina Turner's The Best in front of a wind machine turned up to Carola (the level after maxiumum) :drama:

If anyone deserved to win Eurovision 2010, it was Lena indeed. Even if I didn't like Satellite as much as some other songs. The performance was so elegant, minimalistic and just CLASSY. I remember, after the show, people I had work practice with were surprised that she won and twice as much surprised when I explained that she was the bookies' favourite to win all along!

Can't say this about Ell & Nikki's HORRIBLE performance. I was trying to find anything GOOD in it, but the only thing remotely good was chorus' music. :( First winner I haven't liked a bit in a long time! I even liked 'Believe', to some extent. 2003-2007, 2009, 2010 winners were OUTSTANDING.

It's why I find critics who STILL seem to hold so much stock in live vocals on the night to determine their finishing positions to be a little misguided in their opinion. When AKOE write 'awful vocals, not a qualifier' to an obvious top ten, I don't listen because time and time again it's proved that vocals mean precious little. Andy Abraham gave a perfect vocal on Even If, but the song was so pedestrian that what the hell did it matter?

Yes Blue's vocals were ropey with I Can but if the jury honestly marked them down on that, and not their dislike of the song, then why didn't they slaughter Running Scared (which came 2nd on the jury vote)? It was a terrible vocal, at least as poor as Blue's and definitely not the standard required of a winner - that's IF the vocals mattered that much of course. Which they don't, it's first and foremost a song contest, not a talent competition. Marija Serifovic was the last winner to put in a flawless vocal, Dima, Alexander, Lena and Ell & Nikki didn't by any stretch but still won because their songs were so popular and standout and the performances so full of energy and charisma, the middle two at least!

What About My Dreams, causing HUGE cheers in the crowd, didn't manage to do well though :( I guess gays do like to cheer the loudest and mislead the public :drama:

Apparently so! Hera Bjork got one of the biggest cheers watching back through the 2010 final, just her presence waiting to go on stage was enough to get the crowd roaring!

The Lena cheers were something else though, chanting her name before the performance and clapping/singing along the whole way through :o

OI

So I just watched the finals of years 2008 and 2009.

Isis Gee was stunning! Well, I knew that already, but now it really seems unfair she finished second to last having barely got out of the Semi! And I only now realised how amazing Sébastien Tellier was. Those glasses especially. *.* I never noticed that he inhaled helium from the balloon too  Also, the way his voice would change when singing 'in life' in the "I'm alone in life to say" lyric  Rodolfo Chikilicuatre was still fabulous.

Yohanna's back vocalists!!! Hera, Friðrik and Erna! They know how to recycle artists  Jade getting hit by a passionate violinist is still a fabulous moment. Cheers for her were probably even bigger than for Rybak! :o Okay, 'Always' is probably not AWFUL, like I used to think, it's moved up onto an OKAY shelf. I shockingly realised that Elena's vocals were actually GOOD. :o Malena's face all the way through the song read I'M SCARED AND CRAZY, DON'T VOTE FOR ME! And people obeyed. I now understand why Waldo's People came dead last - performance was a bit of a mess. Oh and Oscar from 'Miss Kiss Kiss Bang' isn't fooling anyone. He is as attracted to vaginas as Elton John.

Indeed. As pretentious and self righteous as he looked up there, I LOVED the fact that Andrew Lloyd Webber was part of the performance of It's My Time, it brought a sense of 'oh, aren't we good' to the UK entry not seen for many, many years. I'm sure it came across as very smug to a lot of viewers though
I know it wasn't for her but for Webber. :( Technically, for her though.

Bugger, just realised that most of the decent national finals start at 7pm GMT and I don't finish work every Saturday until 6.30pm, need to rush back every Sat to try and get here in time for MGP and MF, starting with tonight!

Also, the Eurovision downloads blog has closed down :o I wonder if a replacement will be up soon?

Megaupload was shut down by the FBI yesterday. Perhaps that's another casualty?

The thing is though every other blog (albums, 2010, 2011) is active.

I bet all my money on that the slogan of ESC 2012 will have to do something about FIRE :P

This venue looks pretty nice but I'm not convinced until it's all fully BUILT and ready. Construction seems to be coming along nicely though.

Ooh I love that. :D Predictable maybe, with the fire, and simple but I really like the flower.
