July 28, 200618 yr Chartbeat from Billboard.com July 27, 2006, 12:00 PM ET Fred Bronson VISIBILITY: There have been more debuts inside the top 30 of The Billboard Hot 100 in 2006 than any other year in this millennium. Ashlee Simpson's "Invisible" (Geffen), a new entry at No. 28, is the 11th song to debut in the top 30 in 2006. There were eight top 30 debuts in 2005, six in 2004, one in 2002, four in 2001 and five in 2000. Eight songs have entered the Hot 100 in higher positions than Simpson's single this year. Taylor Hicks has the highest-debuting title of 2006: his "Do I Make You Proud" bowed at No. 1 the week of July 1. Simpson's "Invisible" is tied for ninth place with "Start of Something New" by Zac Efron, Andrew Seeley and Vanessa Anne Hudgens and "Not Ready to Make Nice" by the Dixie Chicks. "Invisible" is the sixth chart entry for Simpson on the Hot 100. Her biggest hit to date is her debut single, "Pieces of Me," her only song to crack the top 10. It peaked at No. 5 in September 2004. "Invisible" is the highest-debuting song of her career. PROMISING: "Promiscuous" (Mosley/Geffen) by Nelly Furtado featuring Timbaland is on track to becoming the sole longest-running No. 1 of 2006 on the Hot 100. The single is in its fifth week at the zenith, putting it in a three-way tie with Beyonce's "Check on It" featuring Slim Thug and Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" as the longest-running chart-toppers of the calendar year. One more week in pole position and Furtado and Timbaland will own the championship all by themselves. If "Promiscuous" does hold on for another week, it will be the first No. 1 to reign for more than five weeks since "Gold Digger" by Kanye West featuring Jamie Foxx ruled for 10 weeks in 2005. A sixth week in the penthouse for "Promiscuous" would end the streak of No. 1 songs that have remained on top for five weeks or less at 13. HOW 'BAD' CAN IT GET?: Speaking of Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" (Warner Bros.), that song doesn't budge on the Adult Contemporary chart, where it is the leader of the pack for the 13th consecutive week. That moves Powter into fourth place among solo male vocalists with the longest-running AC No. 1 hits. Powter is now tied with Eric Clapton for fourth place, behind songs by Phil Collins, Rob Thomas and Enrique Iglesias. Here is a list of the top four: 19 weeks: "You'll Be in My Heart," Phil Collins (1999) 18 weeks: "Lonely No More," Rob Thomas (2005) 15 weeks: "Hero," Enrique Iglesias (2001) 13 weeks: "Change the World," Eric Clapton (1996) 13 weeks: "Bad Day," Daniel Powter (2006) GIBSON GIRL: It's been 13-and-a-half years since Debbie Gibson last appeared on the Adult Contemporary tally. She returns this week teamed with Jordan Knight, a former member of New Kids On The Block. Their duet, "Say Goodbye" (Trans Continental), is a new entry at No. 35. Knight was on the AC list earlier this year, when "Where Is Your Heart Tonight" peaked at No. 12 in January. Gibson hasn't been on the AC chart since February 1993, when "Losin' Myself" stopped at No. 49. Her biggest AC hit to date is "Lost in Your Eyes," No. 3 in March 1989. Gibson made her AC debut in September 1987 with "Only in My Dreams." With the debut of "Say Goodbye," her chart span is stretched to 18 years and 11 months THE CYRUS HOUSEHOLD: They should be popping a champagne cork in the Cyrus household this week -- and maybe opening a bottle of soda for 13-year-old Miley Cyrus. She debuts on the Hot 100 with a single the same week her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, returns to The Billboard 200 after a gap of almost three years. The elder Cyrus, who has been concentrating on his acting career with starring roles in the TV series "Doc" and "Hannah Montana," enters the album chart at No. 113 with "Wanna Be Your Joe" (New Door). It's his first appearance on The Billboard 200 since "The Other Side" peaked at No. 131 in November 2003. Cyrus also enters Top Country Albums, as his "Joe" album bows at No. 24. It is Cyrus' 10th charting album. On The Billboard 200, "Joe" is his seventh album to appear on the tally. Miley stars as Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel series of the same name and charts under her character's name on the Hot 100 with "Who Said" (Walt Disney) at No. 92. WONDERFUL 'WORLD': Brad Paisley's 17th chart entry on Hot Country Songs is the most successful of his career. "The World" (Arista) is in its third week of chart domination. That makes it the longevity champ amongst Paisley's six No. 1 singles: "He Didn't Have to Be," one week (1999) "We Danced," two weeks (2000) "I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song)," two weeks (2002) "Mud on the Tires," one week (2005) "When I Get Where I'm Going," one week (2006) [brad Paisley featuring Dolly Parton] "The World," three weeks (2006) 'HORSE' RACE: Only three songs have advanced to No. 1 on the Adult Top 40 chart in 2006, and two of them are by solo male artists. James Blunt ruled for five weeks with "You're Beautiful" and Daniel Powter had a 12-week reign with "Bad Day." The lone female to lead the list in 2006 is KT Tunstall. Her "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" is in its sixth week at No. 1. That makes it the longest-running chart-topper by a solo female singer since May 2003. Here is a recap of the songs by solo female artists to achieve pole position in this millennium, ranked in order of how long they remained No. 1: 16 weeks: "Complicated," Avril Lavigne (2002) 10 weeks: "I'm With You," Avril Lavigne (2003) 9 weeks: "Thank You," Dido (2001) 9 weeks: "Soak Up the Sun," Sheryl Crow (2002) 6 weeks: "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree," KT Tunstall (2006) 5 weeks: "Behind These Hazel Eyes," Kelly Clarkson (2005) 4 weeks: "Only Time," Enya (2001) 1 week: "Breathe," Faith Hill (2000) 1 week: "The First Cut Is the Deepest," Sheryl Crow (2004)
