That's how bad my memory is - I really believed that I had forgotten it and so I put it on again.

No love at all so far for 2002 in the first poll and 2008 in the second. 2006 is still winning poll 1 but 2009 now has quite a lead in the second :o Interesting

2001

Had it been part of the 21st century, I'd vote 1999. That year just had everything - really memorable pop tracks (which I was totally in love with aged 10 at the time) and some of the best dance records ever, I can't get enough of that trance!

 

Otherwise...

 

2000 - Ok, dance as strong as 1999, pop not quite as good.

2001 - Pop slightly better. Dance still great.

2002 - Dance still good yet slipping a bit, pop non-stop Will Young and Gareth Gates <_<

2003 - Last good dance year. Pop better, and rock begins to re-emerge.

2004 - Suddenly rock's in the lead! Indie classics from Keane, Franz Ferdinand etc, otherwise a bit dull.

2005 - Similar story. Pop dull, dance awful, indie great.

2006 - Pop begins to get a bit better. Indie still huge.

2007 - Liked it at the time but a bit bland compared to what was to come.

2008 - Same as above. Pop a bit directionless and stale, last good rock year. Great Eurodance.

2009 - Gaga! La Roux! BEP! Calvin! Dizzee! Guetta! Synth-heavy pop is back and amazing :D

2010 - Started off kinda meh but then got really good in the summer.

2011 - Ok so far, if nothing particularly memorable, but again, summer's releases are sounding good.

 

Favourite definitely 2009, simply an incredible year with lots of good stuff yet still good releases from all genres. Least favourite probably 2004 or 2005, after the trance boom was over and other than the occasional great indie song, everything just a bit boring and bland.

Just Like a Pill from Pink? Wasn't that 2002...?

 

Anway, 2001 was amazing for singles too
