If we're getting technical then US album sales have declined 50% in the decade since Britney set that record so taking inflation into account Born This Way did about 2.2 million first week.

Beat that! :D

Britney didn't sell her album for 99 cents!

Lady Gaga didn't sell her album for less than 8 dollars. Amazon chose to sell it at an eighth of that at a loss to themselves but even if you want to take out the Amazon dollar sells then BTW sold 680k which doubled to account for inflation still beats Britney's record!

YOU CAN'T WIN THIS TYLER.

Femme Fatale is the better album, but GaGa is the better artist.

Femme Fatale is the better album.

I expected better of you Joshy boy!

He has music taste, Lisa Scott Lee.

I agree with Josh on that front too. I still love Britney's music... and I enjoy her performances now but it's only because I'm a stan. The only time she sings live is on an occasional song that she might cover on tour, or when she does 'Everytime'. Her dancing used to be her saving grace and blow every ones else out of the water, but now it's below DECENT at best. Gaga sings live and dances her ass off writes her own music, so I hope you all understand that a lot of my posts in here are not to bash Gaga, but to point out to you that Britney doesn't do $h!t and is still a contender.

What a bitch, I love it.

teehee, I've only listened to both albums once though.

& I've made my opinions clear on what I think of 'Born This Way', I think it's absolutely horrific (bar 'Edge of Glory').

!!!!!!!!!!! Glad I'm not the only one who realizes Britney is not still on top of the world (like GaGa now) but she's still OURS.

LOL

if that's the case than let's see if BTW will manage to beat overall sales of OIDIA taking inflation into account...5 million.

EDIT:

I don't see that happening when the second week dropped 85% :heehee:

Look at Addy bringing the f*** YOU.

Actually it would be 5.067 million to be exact.

Also let's see her get 6.5 million (baby one more time x2). Or maybe even 2.3 million (britney album sales x2).

And preach Consie! Britney isn't what she used to be but she is still breaking her own records in the USA, today. Which if YA'LL forgot is the #1 market in the world.

As the comparison between Gaga and Brit is inevitable in a thread like this:

These days I enjoy Gaga more than Britney because seems that Britney has really lost her joy of making music. She's making it only because she has to. I don't know if it's true but that's the impression I get. Gaga on the other reminds me of Cyndi Lauper: a pop star who is comfortable who she is and thus capable of recording different kind of music. Something like "You and I" and "Hair" are songs that Madonna would've never released. Cyndi Lauper perhaps, but not Madonna.

I also love the 80s which is the decade that inspired Gaga on Born This Way. I think BTW is by far better than The Fame and even better than TFM despite the latter containing only 8 tracks.

To me, Britney has never been an album artist. Her GH (MP) is totally amazing because her singles are usually brilliant. I really like Till the World Ends and the remix makes it even anthemic.

So I don't think there's need to compare FF and BTW because I never expected Britney to record a great album anyway. She's still a good pop star but needs to find her true self as an artist..something that was hinted on "In the Zone" era.

Oh and Jark, just to let you know. 750k is the margin that amazon officially reported.

Just thought I'd let you know ~

Lady Gaga will always win over Britney.

Lady Gaga outsold Britney's Femme Fatale sales in 1 week.

Lady Gaga's Singles have outsold Britneys Singles everywhere.

Lady Gaga actually sings live and despite Britney Miming her dance moves are still crap.

However Britney is hot.

Used to be hot. Ten years ago.

These two females had many fans and critics wondering who would be more successful,

Your opinions?

I'd like the names of the critics that wondered if Britney would be more successful...

I can't think of any.

Femme Fatale. Not only are the singles better (Hold It Against Me > Born This Way, Til The World Ends > Judas) but as a whole the album is pretty good whereas BTW is let down by the dire singles and tracks like Hair, Scheibe and Government Hooker.

Scheibe is one of the best things she's done. It's weird, edgy and catchy. The stuff she promised us and along with Marry the Night (purely for the final bit) is the best track on the album.

I'm not sure what you're referring to but the amount of albums sold by Amazon for 99 cents was just short of 440k.

But why even discuss sales? Gaga has been talking about "Born This Way" for ages! And she has done A LOT more promo for it than Britney did for the "Circus" era and "Femme Fatale" mixed. I'm sure if her promo tactics were the same as Brit's, she'd see similar results to Brit.
Femme Fatale by MILES! Born This Way is pretty average In comparison to The Fame and TFM
Born This Way though Femme Fatale just having gasoline on there makes it a close one!

You didn't think she was hot in 'Toxic'?

And go look at Amazon.com's report on the 99cent sale, Jark.
