I was watching this video and was amazed by how UTTERLY DOMINATING boy band and girl band are in South Korea 2010 year-end MUSIC CHART.

Then I thought why they still do well in the UK when they basically dead in America.

They don't do really well. Boybands tend to do better because of obsessed and crazed teenage girls.
Both do as much in Korea, actually in Korea Girl Groups are more popular compared to male.
is south korea the country where they reduced the price of downloads dramatically and number one singles usually sell around 300,000?
Boybands have never really been a big thing in America unlike the UK. There was only ever the Backsteet Boys that cracked the American market.

New Kids on the Block had 4 #1s in America, and 'N Sync have the fastest-selling album of all-time in the US.

You're right boybands have never been big in America though, apart from a period in the late 1990s/early 2000s with the teeny bopper phase.

Although plenty of R&B boybands have done very well there - Jodeci, Silk, Boyz II Men, etc. Some would call these "vocal groups" though or something.

Well, Five got a top-10 single (When the Lights Go Out) and a top-30 album there! Given that they're Brits, not Americans, I think it's an achievement.

That video is AMAZING :o So many great tracks!

Korean and J Pop are very good and are of a high standard. Shame both countries can't enter ESC :(

Agreed, they were planning Asiavision for last year but it got cancelled :(

Anyway there will be boybands as long as there are teenage girls. But girlbands are almost dead, there isn't the market for them anymore.

For those interested in trying some new music by girl/boy groups, here they are. Is there a thread on these k-pop groups anyways? Can't find one so i'll post some here.

If you are one of those people who love catchy songs then you'll love these :yahoo:

Male Groups:

SHINee - Ring Dong Ding

2PM - Again & Again

B1A4 - O.K

B2ST - Fiction

Big Bang - Tonight

Female Groups

2NE1 - Can't Nobody (English Version) (Will.I.Am producing their songs)

T-ara - Bo Peep Bo Peep

Brown Eyed Girls - Abracadabra

Girls' Generation - Gee

Girls' Generation - Mr. Taxi

KARA - Mister

Orange Caramel - Bangkok City

------------------------------------------------

They can all dance, trained 2-6 years in vocal training, all got awesome hence why I think the UK groups at the meantime are falling behind...
