July 1, 201114 yr Andy Murray actually showed that he is actually capable today. When he was on it, he matched Nadal - aka until the point where he missed out on 2 break points in the 2nd set. Murray can grow, and I see no reason why the US Open isn't his. Really disappointed for him, because after the first set, I had real confidence in Murray - but a good game, never the less.
July 1, 201114 yr Masterclass. The pressure is too big at Wimbledon, and Murray, whilst a great plsyer is a complete bottlejab. The problem is Djokovic and Nadal are both physical monsters. Their game intensity is incredible.
July 1, 201114 yr He probably has a better chance at the US Open, but even still, I've read about Djokovic's worst surface being grass too, and if Federer were to come back and win another slam you'd say it's probably his best chance too as he won 5 in a row. If Del Potro can remain fit and get a better seeding for it than he had at Wimbledon, then he could repeat his win of two years ago. And it's not as if the top 2 will be weak because Nadal beat Djokovic in the final last year.
July 2, 201114 yr Congrats to her though, I still like seeing new champions. Maria really needs to do something about those constant double faults, they're going to continue to kill off her chances if she gets to any more finals and semis any time soon.
July 2, 201114 yr Delighted for Petra, ever since Paris this year it's seemed like she's on course to be massive - and so far, that's proving to be true (Madrid was stunning, but this is just something else)! A little bit sorry for Maria, but I don't think her slam days are over, she had an off day - but if she plays anything like she did in the QF and SF then she can win more titles. Kvitova's victory signifies the noose tightening on Wozniacki - after she was heralded as the best player of her generation, she's not delivered in the Grand Slams - and to be beaten to a first slam by Kvitova (and I can see Azarenka following suit in one of the next two slams) it seems like her chances might be fading, that said I hope she can pull out a slam or two.
July 2, 201114 yr I was half convinced this time last week that each of the mens' top 4 could win a slam each this year: Djokovic the Australian, Nadal the French, Federer Wimbledon and Murray at Flushing Meadows. Shame Federer collapsed against Tsonga as he was looking imperious in the earlier rounds, I believe he's still the most naturally gifted of the four but Djokovic and Nadal's fitness is just too much. Murray surely can't go his whole career without winning a slam, his returns and backhands are out of this world but he just makes too many mistakes on the forehand.
July 2, 201114 yr It's good to see Lisicki finding some form again! I'm gonna make a bold prediction right now, the ladies final will be between: 5 Maria Sharapova and 8 Petra Kvitova ;) You heard it here first [huge potential to look stupid with these guesses :kink:]
July 2, 201114 yr Did anyone watch the Ladies Doubles final? I only watched it because Lisicki was in it, all I could do was wonder how on earth her and Stosur actually made it so far such was the gulf in quality, you could tell they were the ones that don't play doubles!
July 2, 201114 yr Did anyone watch the Ladies Doubles final? I only watched it because Lisicki was in it, all I could do was wonder how on earth her and Stosur actually made it so far such was the gulf in quality, you could tell they were the ones that don't play doubles! Stosur is actually a good Doubles player reaching the final of all 4 grand slams and winning the French and US opens, and has been ranked #1 in doubles, then she started doing well in the singles so doubles is now more of a plan b.
July 3, 201114 yr Djoko is serving for the title, good point from Nadal to take it to 30-30. Easy serve and volley for Djokovic... championship point...
July 3, 201114 yr Brilliant! :D Reminded me of Murray's semi final, whatever Nadal did, whatever he threw at him, apart from the one set Djokovic had an answer! Sabine looking lovely in the crowd
