I think the term 'summer anthem' is subjective really, I'd say we've definitely had more 'summery' songs than Te Amo, Not Afraid, Airplanes and Missing You

I feel the year started off with very good number 1 singles. they have got quite boring the past month though IMO.

This has been a dire year for chart music so far. ( The Someone Like You/Price Tag/S&M domination in February was dreadful.

I was just thinking songs that were really popular in the summer and remind me of it.

Out of this year, I think Party Rock Anthem is very summery, but it got popular too early really. But if you're going by the feel of the song, I think that could count as a summer 2011 anthem.

I agree that was absolutely dreadful. Probably the worst time for chart music I've ever seen. :( The top 10 stayed exactly the same for 2 months. Literally. And it wasn't even good either.

:manson: :P

I reckon summer anthems this year could be JLS feat Dev - She Makes Me Wanna, The Wanted - Glad You Came and Jennifer Lopez - Papi to name a few :)
:manson: :P

I'm guessing you liked that then?

One thing I have noticed about most of those songs that were in that top 10 over those months, Price Tag, S&M, Champion, Someone Like You, Yeah 3x. I liked them at first, but now I'm bored of them.

I think if it wasn't for them being so popular, I would look back at them more fondly, but I just want to forget that period now.

I find it hilarious how people look at the sales of those songs, and are amazed. "OMG, this is Chipmunk's highest-selling song ever", "Wow, Rihanna song 600,000 with a 3rd single", "Can't believe Adele and Jessie J are getting million-sellers", "Never thought Chris Brown would comeback and be so huge!!". When really, they just sat at the top of the charts for 2 months with absolutely no competition whatsoever. Any song can do that.

I'd like to see how they would've fared in 2010 when massive hits such as Written in the Stars, Only Girl, Forget You, Just the Way You Are, Dynamite, Firework, Promise This, etc. were being released on a weekly basis.

I'm guessing you liked that then?

Yes  :P

Surely this year's 'summer anthem' was/is 'On The Floor'? Every second of that song just ooozes SUMMER. (Yes, it was released in Spring, but so what, its not like we actually get a 'summer' here anyway). :P

Yes, that's very summery. I also think Papi, Beautiful People, Sweat and Give Me Everything are very suited for summer, but the latter three have got popular too early. I'm sure they'll still be popular into the summer, but they'll be "old news" by then, so to speak.

Re; summer anthems. A lot of the tracks posters are referring to from 2010 hadn't even been released in the UK at this point a year ago.

Although I agree with lee wallance that 'Give Me Everything' is the early contender for 2011's summer anthem. I'm sure there will be some yet to be released tracks that will become known as summer anthems in the coming weeks.

Dare I even suggest this but 'Swagger Jagger' by Cher Lloyd might even be consider as one of them.

I'm not sure what you're getting at with this argument - just because 'any song can do that' doesn't make any of those achievements less surprising. The staleness of the charts wouldn't increase overall sales in any meaningful way. If they were as unpopular as you're implying they may have stuck around at the top still but their weekly sales totals would get really low before they racked up a decent amount of sales.

I don't think they were unpopular. Just I think that Yeah 3x, Someone Like You, Champion, etc. got to completely dominate the music scene for ages. I think if there were other new songs becoming hits at that point the general public would've moved on a bit quicker.

Just one new entry today, from Rizzle Kicks. Noah And The Whale also re-enter with L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. Good Girl and the album version of Price Tag drop out. (I've decided to leave in the version tags I have in my Word document this time - songs that have had an album version and a single version chart are the only ones with tags, other 'album versions' haven't had a 'single version' chart top 100 since I started tracking the top 100)

No118- Chipmunk ft Trey Songz/ Take Off

No576- Friendly Fires/ Hawaiian Air

Te Amo? Not sure about that one

Why not? It's extremely summery (arguably more so than the average electro-pop "anthem") and was actually pretty big last summer. It reached it's peak in May, so I guess it could be seen as premature but I still count it as one.

I reckon summer anthems this year could be JLS feat Dev - She Makes Me Wanna, The Wanted - Glad You Came and Jennifer Lopez - Papi to name a few :)

SMMW won't be big at all, I think. It will have a chart run like [1-5-11-17-20-26-31-36-xx]

The Wanted will probably have an even worse chart run and won't be that big. I mean, it's not even a summery song and is just plain bad.

I doubt 'Papi' will be big either. IIY only got to #9 officially so I can see 'Papi' peaking between #17-#25. Although, J.Lo hasn't exactly sold a huge amount of albums.

Dare I even suggest this but 'Swagger Jagger' by Cher Lloyd might even be consider as one of them.

You have been on the rabbit food again :(
