err...maybe if you're 12. With a particularly low command of the English language.

Have you heard some of the rhyming in Lose Yourself!??! Good grief! It's amazing! Literally the entire song rhymes with itself! Come on, I'd like to see you have a go at rhyming like that. :D

Eminem is like a living thesaurus, so I find it utterly hilarious that someone can even suggest that Lose Yourself has poor lyrics.

I find it far more hilarious that you're trying to paint someone as completely awful as Eminem as some modern day Shakespeare... I mean - are you serious? :lol:

Thank Christ I'm not living where you are, if the Eminem and the BEPs are 'unacceptable' there :lol:

quite....

Most rappers are better than Shakespeare tbh. :coffee:

Seriously though, point me to a passage of Shakespeare that has more complex rhyming in than Lose Yourself.

To be, or not to be--that is the question:

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer

The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles

And by opposing end them. To die, to sleep--

No more--and by a sleep to say we end

The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks

That flesh is heir to. 'Tis a consummation

Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep--

To sleep--perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub,

For in that sleep of death what dreams may come

When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,

Must give us pause. There's the respect

That makes calamity of so long life.

For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,

Th' oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely

The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,

The insolence of office, and the spurns

That patient merit of th' unworthy takes,

When he himself might his quietus make

With a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear,

To grunt and sweat under a weary life,

But that the dread of something after death,

The undiscovered country, from whose bourn

No traveller returns, puzzles the will,

And makes us rather bear those ills we have

Than fly to others that we know not of?

Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,

And thus the native hue of resolution

Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,

And enterprise of great pitch and moment

With this regard their currents turn awry

And lose the name of action. -- Soft you now,

The fair Ophelia! -- Nymph, in thy orisons

Be all my sins remembered.

:kink:

^ That really doesn't have that much rhyming in though. :lol:

Watch this video after 3:00, for example:

Shakespeare has nothing now tbh. :D

if you want rhyming:

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;

Coral is far more red than her lips' red;

If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;

If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.

I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,

But no such roses see I in her cheeks;

And in some perfumes is there more delight

Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.

I love to hear her speak, yet well I know

That music hath a far more pleasing sound;

I grant I never saw a goddess go;

My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground:

And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare

As any she belied with false compare.

plus he has loads of other sonnets :kink:

not that I'm denying that Lose Yourself is an excellently written song that is

did you study English Literature by any chance? as I do know that Shakespeare can be a pain in the neck :(

I did it for GCSE (and somehow got an A* :o (I guess that's down to all the hip hop music I listen to :D (and I suppose this counters russt68's comment about me either being 12 or having no command over the English language)).

But I mean, in Lose Yourself, as that video demonstrated, nearly every single word in the entire song rhymes with another word close to it, whilst I can find quite a few words in that passage which I can't find rhymes for. Like "mistress" in the first line, and "coral" in the second line, and so on. Although I might be missing what they rhyme with.

Also, did Shakespeare compose an instrumental to be played in the background when that passage was recited?

no because he wasn't a musician :lol: thats because the rhyming structure is ABAB, which was quite revolutionary at the time

anyway they can't really be compared ultimately, their both totally different genres :lol:

Yeah, you're right tbh. I need to calm down. :lol:

Oh, no! Are aliases working in this game? <_<

Dappy got an A* for English as well, did you know? :o

Again, only your own opinion. Please stop being so patronising.

Of course he did, he's a rapper! :lol:

But yeah, that doesn't really say much about the qualification. :lol:

Dappy actually beat be in English though. I did two English GCSEs, English Literature, where I got the A*, and then the normal English where I *only* got an A, so Dappy actually beat me in that! :o

I would definitely say Lose Yourself is a modern hip-hop classic. I remember a few years ago when Billboard released the biggest selling downloads to date and Lose Yourself was near the top despite it not being release during the download era. It was massive and crossed over to people who didn't necessarily listen to him or rap music. It's probably his only song I like too.

I think there's a lot of rappers who have a knack for great songwriting, it's a really under-appreciated genre when you get to the decent rappers like Lil Wayne, Eminem... etc. who can actually write a great and VERY well-written song.

But OMG the comparisons of Eminem being better than Shakespeare is actually ridiiiiiiiick!

Again, only your own opinion. Please stop being so patronising.

I suggest you check the definition of what a public messageboard is.... it's an avenue to express your OWN opinion (ie...not someone else's opinion)... err..... thank you. :blink: :D

And louis - there's not one but TWO abysmal Black Eyed Peas records on this list... I'm sure they can only be there because the majority of the rest of this list is even worse....
