In that case you'd kind of have to AQ. There aren't any firm rules about AQing but I had assumed that even semis was kind of a requirement. If you didn't AQ then somebody else would have to, which would be a bit random.

Good luck with that, seems that we have a whopping 47 entries so far and I'm pretty sure that BaNG and Juranabaijan will be entering too, which makes 49 :o Do we want a cap at 50 if it was to get that way or is the number of entries unlimited (although the absolute max would be about 51/52 I guess)?

 

Last time there were so many entries was that huge 48 song final, won by Sheelah's Psycho :wub:

I'm hoping for a record breaking contest - and if we get two more confirmations then it will be, although a 50 song cap does seem sensible to make it manageable. If BaNG and Juranabaijan both confirm then there'll be 49 entries so I'll AQ and there'll be two semis of 24, with 14 going through from each. If those two plus one other country confirm then it'll be two straight semis of 25 with no auto qualifiers. Quotosibb and Dalisska have confirmed now and I'm not expecting Frahliso or Lotopialand to as they've both been offline for a while. So I reckon it'll be 49, unless anybody new enters or somebody else returns (wherefore art thou Kingdom of Shadow?)

This is true, I'd been thinking that 48 was the record but that was our biggest final.

 

I guess we don't need a cap of 50 if we've been up that high before then! Confirm, confirm, confirm!

I don't have a problem with listening to 54 songs, but if we must have semifinals with a final of 28 then I think there should be a cap. Semifinals are already a disaster for some of us (i.e. most of the songs we like not qualifying), and the bigger the semifinals are then the worse that becomes. 27 per semi, 14 qualify from each, 26 casualties.... I couldn't possibly cope! :o :P

I know what you mean, although you wouldn't obviously be listening to 54 songs as it's your choice whether or not you listen to the DNQ's from the opposite semi. I always do for fear of missing something great, even if I can't vote for it.

It's not like people don't have enough notice to confirm so a first come first served type of system might prevent a load of last minute confirmations. We haven't had a total this high for quite a while though, the contest has really woken up again recently.

I stopped because I'd become bored of it and it was too big, and then whilst I was at uni never really had the time to do it. I liked the idea of the recent spin off so wanted to enter Best Coast to that but missed the cut-off, but wasn't that bothered when I saw the main contest was no where near as big anymore. Last month was about as much as I'd ever like, so if it's back up towards 50 levels again I don't see the point.

It seems to go up to these levels every now and then but I wouldn't expect it to last. I'd assume that it's the summer holiday for most people and more people have time to participate. As soon as September/October come around I'd expect it to drop back to 40 or so.

Haven't got a clue what to send, so I went through my old list of songs that I considered in the past. The one I've gone for is from late last year :wub:!

Definitley seems like people have more time to compete now it's the summer holidays. Methinks it's definitley the largest contest I've ever been in :)

With regards to your sig Sugabloke, the confirmation closes at 9pm tomorrow but the thread (and therefore revealing of your entry) won't open until some point on Friday as I have to wait for the final confirmation list to be approved by the mods and then do the draw and make the semis/MP3 packs etc...

Yeah, I tend to listen to all songs because there will be a few songs in the other semi that are up my street. My music taste has developed so much over the past year that the majority of the songs in this don't appeal to me, but I really enjoy it so I think that's why I'm still here. :lol: The popularity of this contest is great, because it can be really enjoyable and I'd hate for that to be sacrificed by introducing a cap, but I think too many entries could be just as damaging.

Well it's 48 in the end, which is high but certainly not as high as it's been before...
