September 13, 201212 yr was that critically acclaimed? If not then it's surprise that it was left out There was nowhere in the OP that said the albums had to be critically acclaimed, but it received a positive review from the BBC and 3 stars from both The Guardian and The Independent, if they're good enough for you?? My original post was in fact a joke though (no matter how good I find the album, it'd never be nominated due to the name attached). Edited September 13, 201212 yr by THEO.

(omg i forgot about Skying! I was kinda expecting it to be on this year at one point because it was pretty much on the edge)

Spice Girls and Take That were nominated.and M People even won so it's not impossible for someone like Cheryl to be nominated.
September 14, 201212 yr It is, because older acts outside the indie genre(s), I mean acts who've been around for a while, will never get nominations. I don't like how most of the nominees are debut albums, again. Saint Etienne, Florence & the Machine, Orbital, Kate Bush have all released a great or even a groundbreaking album. But they're not there. And mediocre efforts by Maccabees, Lianne la Havas are. Edited September 14, 201212 yr by SKOB
September 14, 201212 yr Author That is a fair point. Back in the 90s established acts had no trouble getting nominated - Paul Weller, New Order, U2, Simply Red, Manic Street Preachers, Blur, Underworld all got nominated with later albums.
September 14, 201212 yr Now SKOB, The Maccabees have been around for a lot longer than Florence and the Machine. But you're right, they're mediocre also-rans.

September 14, 201212 yr Erm, Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto was a big prediction. Shockingly it doesn't make it.
September 14, 201212 yr The Maccabees were mediocre also-rans. I'd say no British indie band that emerged in the 2004-7 years and made the charts have shown anywhere near as much progression as The Maccabees have. 'Given To The Wild' is stunning. Edit: Thinking about it, it's not like they have much (any) competition really. Bloc Party did but they've killed all that with their recent album.
