Posted July 6, 201114 yr Just starting this thread as Adele has just passed 1,000,000 for 'SLY', and I read through thr archives the other day and someone said she would be a million seller, which someone replied saying 'No, it will only sell 600,000, 1m is impossible'. I remember thinking that she would sell 800-900k, With about 4 weeks at #1 What do you lot think?
July 6, 201114 yr I thought she would be successful but not major selling 7 million copies successful. Not that i doubted her as an artist but the British Public disappoint me on forgetting the real and true talent so i assumed Adele would be left a bit behind.
July 6, 201114 yr well, before MYFML got hammered on XF and all the radios, I have to admit I met it with a 'meh', although following that, I did think it could actually be partially successful - but I still didn't expect much - its safe to say after Rolling in the Deep entered at number 2, that it was going to be better than her first era, although I don't think many anticipated her selling THIS much
July 6, 201114 yr Author Yeah the first time I heard RITD I thought 'This is good but it'll only peak at 6 or something', because of Duffy failing. Its nice to be wrong sometimes.
July 6, 201114 yr I wasnt a fan of her at all. Hated "Chasing Pavements". Didnt take an interest in any of her single releases after her first single. Now I think she is amazing and have both albums lol
July 6, 201114 yr I thought it would sell 700,000 copies with RITD going to #1 and all the follow-up singles peaking between #15-#30. I'm glad it seems I underestimated her.

Now I think she is amazing and have both albums lol This! Well I don't have 19 yet but it is only a matter of time. Don't even mind chasing pavements so much now. It was probably just the soul overload that year. It would have been very difficult to predict this level of success and it still remains to be seen where it takes her to. Had anyone predicted this level of success for any artist early on they would have been rubbished "loon" etc

I remember seeing that post, but I seem to remember they were talking about 21, which sounds even more weird considering 21's success now!!
July 6, 201114 yr I LOVED Chasing Pavements when it came out! But then I didn't hear anything else from her until Make You Feel My Love was performed on X Factor and re-entered the chart at #4. Then I was shocked each time it jumped back into the Top 10. Then I was shocked more with the success of Rolling in the Deep, Someone Like You, 21, and 19 this year, and with 21 breaking records every week was just fantastic!! When 21 debuted at number one with 208,000 sales, I thought it would go: 1 - ~150,000 1 - ~100,000 1 - ~75,000 Then fall to number two and spend a few weeks in the Top 10 and then probably spend quite a while in the Top 40 and perhaps go Top 10 again after another release
July 6, 201114 yr Well, I obviously didn't expect 21/RITD/SLY/even SFTTR to do so well here, but I'm more surprised at how amazingly she's doing Stateside - RITD spent 7 weeks at #1 (the joint longest run since TiK ToK along with LTWYL) and is going to overtake E.T. as the highest digital seller in 2011 imminently! :o :o :o Not to mention the fact she's got the highest selling album of the year in the US too, beating Lady GaGa. I did expect this to be a really big era for her but she's surpassed just about all expectations massively! Edited July 6, 201114 yr by Bré
July 6, 201114 yr I must say prior to Make You Feel My Love and the XF, I thought it'd have a week at #1 selling about 80k, then disappear into obscurity - possibly making platinum. Post MYFML and RITD - I thought it'd do better, maybe 3 weeks at #1 and double to triple platinum - then SLY came along and the rest is history :kink:.
July 6, 201114 yr I did love her 19 era (though I slightly prefered Duffy), but when this era came around I thought RITD would peak just inside the top 10 and 21 would have a couple of weeks at number 1 and sell about 600-700k (I didn't think it would outsell 19 tbh). Never did I expect a huge million selling single, as well as a massive top 3 hit and what's looking like another top 10! Not to mention the album already having sold 2.5mil in the UK! And the US sucsess is such a shock - I was expecting RITD to miss top 40 when it was first released in the US, but suddenly radio were supporting and it shot up to have 7 weeks at number 1 :o I'm so happy for her though, she really deserves it  21 is FARRRRRR better than Duffy's (mostly crap) Endlessly! July 6, 201114 yr Adele's massive sucess of '21' was one of the biggest shocks of the year. Adele doesn't make that club banger music that is popular right now (and was when she released the album) so SLY doing so well was a surprise as well as the continous high sales of the album. I was expecting Adele to have some sucess after MYFML re-entered the chart but if I travelled back to the past to tell myself at the start of the year that Adele would sell 2.6m and have 23 weeks top 2 by July 2011 I wouldn't believe it
