RELEASED: 7th October 2002

PEAK POSITION: 1

WKS ON CHART: 25

CHARTING SINGLES:

EVERGREEN/ ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE (1)

LIGHT MY FIRE (1)

THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD (1)

YOU AND I (2)

It’s a case of Young 3 Gates 0 in the match between the top 2 of the first series of "Pop Idol" on this rundown. Young'’s debut “From Now On” rocketed into No 1 after selling 187k in late 2002 on the strength of three number one singles, more than Gates could do as his debut “failed” at No 2 just 3 weeks later behind David Gray. The album went double platinum before 02 was through, and set Young up for a successful career that persists to this day, after his victory in the final.

As for Gates well he was actually the more successful act for the first year singles wise, running up 4 chart topping singles in the first 12 months, but as 2002 ended Will’s albums sales were better- indicating the future was far from bright for Gates...

The You & I video has also been posted but I don't know how to post that in here.

146. KEEP ON- Will Young (1,002,000)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b7/WY_KO.jpg

RELEASED: 21st November 2005

PEAK POSITION: 2

WKS ON CHART: 39

CHARTING TRACKS:

ALL TIME LOVE (3)

SWITCH IT ON (5)

WHO AM I (11)

Young’s second album on the survey is 2005’s “Keep On” which marked the beginning of Young’s decline in the album market. Both of his first two albums debuted at No 1 with sales of over 180K but a relatively poor performance from the lead single “Switch On” saw the album fail to make it three out of three in the No 1 album stakes. “Keep On” opened with sales of 107K just 3K short of toppling Madonna’s “Confessions On A Dancefloor” but had cleared 470k by Y/E.

Sales held up better than “From Now On” hence why this album is higher on this survey finally just crossing the million mark before decade end to become Young’s second million seller of his career....

This my fav Will album to date, although I've a feeling it could soon change.
